Desert Fox, but what about the feeling that "oh, now my triremes can cross oceans?" or "Now I have the ability to plant forests." What we see as the flaw in an otherwise great game is nearly every tech gives a numerical improvement to a stat you already have. There is nothing new under the sun. And the argument over wonders movies and such will never end. But GalCiv has already set the precedent by having movies for the first time you build a battleship and discover an anomaly. Why end

I tested it earlier on the tech tree last night, and found that it did not change my strategy one bit. Like I said, maybe I need to get on the clue bus, but on every size map I used it on, the information it gave me was irrelevant to a couple of my basic playstyles. Either the information was echoed and amplified by having scouts and sensor drones all over the map anyway (IMHO, modders should FLOOD the library with anomaly mods so the distribution gets spread out more -- one game I had like 12 f

One of the humorous things about GalCiv is in every game I play, all the wonders get built shortly before the endgame. Their stat enhancing goodness only ends the game a couple turns sooner than would otherwise because they are such late game techs. On that note, I would like to play with the idea of putting in more wonders, many early game (ala Civ) and have them small, reasonable bonuses for a good price. Let's see if we can put a few in this thread and see what we come up w

Yes, if you wish to safeguard your account, according to Stardock, the ONLY mod that you can download and submit your game to the multiverse is that one. Any other mods may or may not cause them to invalidate your account. They have warned us in a sticky thread then hid it for reasons unknown. M

The issue cuts both ways and is still not answered to my satisfaction. WHY have mods be rejected AT ALL? IF there is going to be "Stardock Certified" mods, then why should my unbalanced Range Anomaly mod (say) be rejected for the Library? Basically that is saying, "While some of these mods are unbalanced and not certified, YOURS is WAY TOO unbalanced to even be considered. Your work is less relevant than others." Do you folks see my point? What is the point of rejecting a submi

"This era ended when the reckless Terrans invented 'Hyperdrive.'" "A ship with Hyperdrive was capable of instantaneous travel to any point in the galaxy." Uhhhhh, so how do we get this Hyperdrive? Can I meet the Terrans in the game? I would like to develop this technology! ;) (methinks the storyline has changed since the first scripts) M

From the GC Mods forum. You must use notepad to fix this (take only a couple keystrokes): "FILE: \Data\SoldieringAbility01.ANOMALY ISSUE: The Morale anomaly is affecting Ship Defense, not Morale. REMEDY: Find the ANOMOLY Morale section of the file. Change Quantity from 2 to 4. (Yes, Quantity, kind of goofy, I know)." There are a bunch of these you can correct yourself. M

You are correct. Public domain is different than using digital images made by some amateur who would like some control over his work. M

It is quite simple to add a tech that contains an evolutionary advantage to your stats. Something like PQ +5% or influence +10%. It is impossible at this time to add a tech that grants a brand new ability. I think I heard that some more abilities were being coded into the moddable files. I do not know if this sort of thing would be one of them. M

OK, now that we have gotten a small cross-section of opinion about this tech, what ways could it be improved to make it more worthwhile? Some suggestions have been: 1) Make a further tech that locates Dark purples. [my opinion: limited still to larger map use] 2) Make it also give dark purples [my opinion: much better, as it immediately benefits both AI and player alike] 3) Move it up the tech tree a few notches [my opinion: am trying this tonight.

Yin, believe me, we're on the same side here. I'm leaning toward your proposal (the one made by many, many before). In fact, while typing this, I just jogged around the techs so Stellar Cartography is a first rank tech at about half price. I'll test it out tonight. (Do not fear multiverse mongers, I do not use that carrot!) Then I'll look at a huge or gigantic map (brr, gigantic = time sink from hell) and tell ya what I think. To be honest, I don't see what's wrong with explori

Yin, I've played huge maps. Useless. What do I care what a sector across the map has? By the time I get there I will either culturally conquer it or colonize it with my troops. And WELL before then my horde of found scouts and sensor drones (and my 3 or 4 survey ships) will have scouted it for me. M

Has anyone ever really USED this tech to some advantage? It seems to me that by the time I get it I have most of the map uncovered (or at least the most immediately strategically useful part of the map uncovered) and the initial rush of colonization is over. We're talking about a an early 20th Century technology that is three technologies into the tree! Perhaps I am missing some obvious strategic significance to this tech that would make me want to research it at all. Aren't the bazilli

I've been looking over folks' event mods (some of them are very nice!) and realized we must have a talented group of artists here. Then it occurred to me that maybe people are getting permission to use other artists' work much more quickly than myself. I have sent out a dozen emails trying to secure permission to use other artists images and haven't gotten more than a couple replies. Then it hit me... You ARE asking artists if you can use their work if you take images from a we

I agree the UI is something of a bear. When I was a huge enthusiast for the game, I didn't really notice them, but now I am beginning to wonder about some, especially: Diplomacy screen mess (no tech descrips, evil sliders that I can't use, lack of ability to just type in a number and see if it's green or not) Starbase confusion (and Starbases are 90% of the game!) Lack of ability to "lock down" a slider in the resource allocation screen. M

I'm inclined to agree. My policy has been since my 3rd game to simply always go after the cheapest tech. After all, the computer AI will get the rest of the techs for me, and unless I am destined to lose (something that is determined VERY early in the game), I am guaranteed to get them all from the AI one way or another. I think the problem here is as you said. You have a tech called "Star Creation." Can you create a star? Nope. I know it says something in the descrip to prevent you fro
