Maybe the Minors should have their Intelligence level set to the AVERAGE of all the Majors? Personally, I'd like a switch to turn off "Minors" in the galaxy set up screen. Then it would be my choice if I have to compete with the Minors for the early goods/wonders (but accepting that new minors in game are just new good worlds), or not having to worry too much about the early Trade/Wonders (but no new good free worlds).

I usually use 2 governors. The default one has all my minor world/must have items. The second I use for my high PQ/Producers. Occasionally, I'll set up a third for special but repeating situations. And I prefer to build morale enhancers as needed by the worlds, rather then in a preset order. They always need it at different times, anyways, due to differences in what is going on, starting pop, etc.

New minors are just a nice, free planet. I've never seen a normal minor "shake things up". Just be invasion targets for that nice pretty PQ world. After the start, there's no point to generating new minors, other then kick off an invasion race. And those don't *start* wars.

I agree with LDiCesare... Fundies taking you over is a risk you take, if you play evil. It's the primary deterant, as far as I'm concerned from my experiences with the game. I've had games where the Fundies took everything but one of my worlds, and wiped out 2 AIs. Makes for a very different game. And I've had other games where they were just an irritant. I think overall, Star Dock has that event about right. If you don't like it, load up a prior turn, and do a few different th

Isn't their primary revenue stream through Drengin.net? You have a subscription to that, I'm sure they will continue to support you. ;) As for retail... GalCiv has been in the stores for quite some time around these parts. So, it depends on where you are located in the world on "when it became available". However, as the game has already been supported for quite a while, and very much work has already gone into improving GalCiv from its original retail release version, I'm betting Star

It doesn't matter about moving at the rate of the space shark. Once the shark has decided to kill a ship, it will follow it, barring any other thing disrupting its plan. I just go park the tracked ship by an alien starbase. Eventually, the shark will show up, and attack the base on it's way to attack my ship. Then it's pick a new target, move off, and wait.

The "send test status 1 error 0" dialog isn't an error. It's what is known as a programmer's debug dialog alerting you that it submitted your score to the metaverse. I am guessing that StarDock has put "Real People" text into that dialog that should tell you "Game submitted successfully to the Metaverse", or something similar. Just remember... don't panic when you see that dialog, as long as it says "error 0". That means "NO ERRORS" in human talk.

As said, because there are people there that simply don't pay taxes. To abandon a world, you need to go into the world details, and use the "ABANDON" button. Otherwise, you still pay for the world, you just sent all your tax payers off via colony or transport. All the non-tax payers are still there.

Actually, I never build a significant military (unless I'm going for a serious military win)... nor trade tech... nor ask other AI to spank them for me... and as a goody-goody (most games), on Normal, I don't have much trouble with the AI wanting to spank my behind... The main trick I use is to start TRADE ASAP with races I know will want to spank me. By starting trade as soon as possible, the baddies will leave you alone. Most games, I find just dropping a defender on each of my worlds

Install SDC, and pull down the SDC from the link on the GalCiv home page... and let it update itself? Then re-register your game/drengin.net subscription number in it? Just a wild thought on my part. Sounds like the SDC is in a wild state, and cannot handle things. Reinstalling should fix that. Uninstalling and deleting the SDC folders to make sure there isn't anything in there messing with the SDC just seems like it would make sure the reinstalling goes well. But I'm just pull

Jinn, there are plenty of people whining about the MV and how it scores. Funny thing is, most people that are whining don't think they are... Most whiners won't. Because they think it's a legitimate concern of all right thinking people in the universe. For instance, you don't think a casual reload is cheating. There are those that do, and seriously whine about the fact that you can reload when you want. Something to remember. Why has the the number of Maso players gone up so mu

So, none of you guys like GalCiv, and want it to be MoO4? That is what it sounds like. By the way, it's MoO1 where you have to get the tech to colonize the different types of worlds. In MoO2, you could live on any world, some just cost more to maintain anything on. And it's Reach For The Stars! where you can pick being a Jovian life form. You work from gigantic to little. ;)

Oh. If you want to play Star Lanes, GalCiv type game, find an old game called Acsension. I like that game quite a bit. Nice alien races in it as well. The problem of star lanes is that it effectively limits everyone on how they can move. Great for the AI, but a bit boring for humans. Most Star Lane games do not allow you to go "off road", but a few odd ones do. Changes the feel of the game greatly, and one of the many things I dislike in MoO3, as it really changed the level of possibili

Update on crash/lockup at GalCiv startup. If downloading and installing the Bink player RadToolGames does not fix your problem, try this... Get SpyBotS&D. Run it. Clean out the nasties that snuck on your computer. Run an AV check to make sure all the nasties are gone. Reboot. You should now be able to play GalCiv. ;) Worked for me, anyways.

You know, all that whining about what cheese it is to reload is because of one thing... people taking the MV seriously. I know how StarDock and our favorite Frog can shut down ALL this whining about this or that tactic is cheesy... Don't have points in the MV at all. That's it. No points. Then there would be noone that could possibly take it seriously. You've got no metric. It would just be "Thank you for submitting your game! Here's a big smile and a warm, fuzzy hug from the Star Docki

Going the route of "exposed" AI API? Might as well go with Client/Server architecture... and publish your interface. This allows not only for Multi-Player (MP) (hear that? MP!), but also customizable AI. Of course, it's expensive resource wise... just for Single Player (SP) experience, you then run Host/Server, Human-Client, and AI-Clients (1 per AI playing). Most average game machines wouldn't have much trouble, but non-hotseat MP then requires some for of talking over the LAN or TCP-I
