Sorry Gerak... I think I grabbed the wrong sticky and didn't notice. My apologies...

My general start strategy is: spending 100% taxes as high as 100% morale yields Military (Colony) to whatever gets me 1 ship/2 turns rest to Research I go straight for Banks, then Manu... after that I tend to go for my favorit TGs. I settle all PQ15+ worlds I can find, of course. That's the point to the initial land grab. I'll drop a colony on ANYTHING to extend out my range to something juicy, and get rid of that world as soon as I've got that juicy someth
Any publicity is good publicity?
Or colony ships.
Vincible, it's PQ+2% in the library, isn't it? But it would then be a common anomoly, and I bet that having PQ+50% in a huge galaxy might cause you to go to zero in scoring due to "cheating". Just a guess, but I've gotten +80% to soldiering easy from just anomolies... that's why I was suggesting it be very rare... in a huge or gigantic or extreme sizes, you might be able to harvest enough to gain a +5 or +8%... which would be useful, but not let you turn PQ10 worlds into "worthwhile" ones, yes?<
Update on game crashing at startup: SF_Intro and Intro do not play, just show a flicker of black screen as display resolution is changed {can tell as the desktop gets shown between flickers, and what is diplayed of the desktop is much smaller (looks like 640x480) then the normal desktop resulting in items running off screen or entirely offscreen}. Game "Setup" screen bounces focus back to desktop, minimizes, and locks up. Have deinstalled and then reinstalled (to a seperate dir
Bakka... nope. The only thing that had changed between 1.10A working, and now GalCiv will not work, was that StarDock Central auto-updated, and then FORCED a reboot. Now, GalCiv no workie at all. :( I've de-installed GalCiv, and tried older versions. No joy. Deinstalled those and tried reinstalling the latest. No joy. Not sure what else to do. Not even my GalCiv of CD (version 1.00) will work. SDC has fried out something, but everything else I've tried still works. I downloaded the RadG
I'd settle for a PQ +1% anomoly that only appears once in a while (say, 1 per size of the galaxy in levels) ;)
re: TheNewfyScotian's suggestions. Comments on #5: Actually, when you capture a Unique, you should get the effect of that good. Justification is that's where the Galactic Stock Exchange is located, or where the Frictionless Clothes come from, etc.
Effectively, once the orbitals defending a world are elimainated, all Transports (Battle and otherwise) that fail are in effect "bombers". They killed pop, after all. And I don't see the point of the no-rush this... it just doesn't seem consistant internally (game world setting). You could still rush everything else, right? So where is the universe logic? I can rush a 500 cost building, EXCEPT for the super anti-bomber battery? That's what rush is for... paying out the yin/yang, one way
So, to level up beyond Maso, without AI improvements (I missed that, my apologies), you just take more penalties and leave everything else alone then. Same effect isn't it? Steeper hill, more important to be most efficent in what you do?
Why not just add cultural resist techs instead? And have them research them? You want the game to play SMARTER, not be pushing a bb through molasses with your nose, right? So instead of looking at stacking up a bigger hill for you to overcome (and therefore force you to use even more extreme strategy/mechanisms exploits), you just improve the AI? I know that's asking for a lot, but the AI in GC is much better then most other AI already, so I have high hopes it can be improved... <br
Who buys on Rush? ;) That's what I said... you'd get bombers, then a defense against them, then advances to defeat to the defense, and then a new defense, then you'd get Terror Stars... If bombers are simple, like star fighters or even A1/D1 stats, then you'd have to escort them with something to keep any basic ship from popping up and killing it on it's own. SD could use a lot of the escorted transport code to model the bomber code, couldn't they? But I'd allow for ru
Ray, why stop submitting your games to the MV? It's not there for points or competition. It's there so SD can see how we play, and make all sorts of interesting decisions... like how to IMPROVE the AI. Or that a game feature (like the PQ+15%) is just too powerful. By not submitting to the MV, you are not contributing to the further advance of the GalCiv AI. Play the games that you like for fun, and submit them. Just don't pay attention to the MV scoring debates. Or the fact it ranks you
I just tried deinstalling and then reinstalling ALL of GalCiv. Still no joy in mudville. Doesn't play sf_intro.bik, then doesn't play intro.bik, and then just sends me back to desktop, with the GalCiv minimized. Whenever I try to swap back into that, it flips out, dumps me back to desktop, and stays minimized. Now I'm bummed. All drivers up to date. Blink is fine and can play the intro, sf_intro, and menus. I will check back later and hope for the best.
I can see the AI not doing that on the lower levels... but it seems to me that on the more difficult levels, one of the AI at least should try to do that. Maybe more? Would be worth adding it into a beta and see what the beta users think, wouldn't it?
Smart seems to have his following. I'm neutral toward him, although in the past I've found some of his published interviews to be quite entertaining. As a game maker, I hope he makes good and fun games. The world needs more fun.
Humm... first, young grasshopper, you must allow the spirit of fun to dwell in your heart, and not mind wasting a bit of time trying out new fun things. ;) If you retire, who will recruit all the newbies to the Fellowship of the Ring? You are just doing this to start a new alias and see how fast you can be #1 on the MV again, aren't you? ;)
Did you guys ever get your hire? I'm presuming so... Need a database guy? :) Been paying the mortgage for the last few years by getting data into and out of databases, via C++ (and a few other languages and technologies). :) You know, I'm a little surprised that most of the save game storage is simple flat files. Very interesting approach. But is that why the Influence of the galaxy isn't saved out when everything else is? Seems like one file giving the value of the galaxy map
Cool. I'm a champion of playing the game for fun. And I was, even when I ranked quite highly for an "average joe" player (thanks to a fortunate awarding of points that favored my preferred play style over all others). My favored message on MetaVerse scoring gripes is "Just wait, Star Dock will change it soon enough." ;) There are always solutions. Sometimes you just got to know what the problem is. And sometimes, you cannot or will not implement the solutions, for whatever reason. Have
Well, it depends. In MoO, it allowed you to deny your enemies those resources, and make for easy colonization by you later. The world wasn't damaged, other then some infrastructure. SMAC was a very easy game, compared to Civ, and the reason for that was because the AI in SMAC did not understand how to use the new stuff. That is why it was so easy for the average gamer to beat SMAC on its top level. And for beginners beat it on average. It is important to good Single Player expe
Jinn, don't worry, I won't. But the Cnt+N is there because a few Star Dockians use it themselves when playing GalCiv. I have used it myself, seeing that I got totally hosed by the RNG or I seriously screwed up my start because I got distracted. It's there so you can restart without having to go through the additional clicking and save time. Good Human Interface Design. If you are really upset that someone can pump their score by Maso/Tiny game, then you should complain (the sug
I would think they didn't make it due to AI changes needed. Being able to blow off planets pop to make it easy to invade with a small force. Humm... well, you still have to wipe out the orbitals, I bet. And a few new techs to "shield" worlds from bombing. So not truly significant that way, other then you don't have to have a bunch of transports. Now, if they allow for PQ destruction... that would be scorched earth! You just EXTERMINATE those pesky aliens! That AI would need to understan
Well... I've tried a few, being an Elite fan. As has been said before, they have a lot of "space". In a "space sim" you spend most of your time travelling... you know, watching the stars go by (screensaver). It might be your sort of thing if that's ok by you. I used to like flight sims, which were primarily screen savers of clouds and scenary go by once you are in the air... Try a demo of it if you can find one. If you like that, go buy the game. That's what I would advise. Different pe
OH! I see. My apologies. That is very aggravating how the game will take that click, and skip you back to another ship/stack because the ship (or starbase) you are clicking on "has already moved". That causes you to give something the wrong order. But I am unsure how to correct that, OTHER then have the game properly "CENTER" the main view on the new ship/stack with focus. But sometimes, it is just so insistant!
