Well, in 1.01 through 1.02, I found corvettes extremely useful. Not for boosting my military rating, but for destroying all the 'little' starbases, constructors, transports, Alien SFs and CVs. Just a couple of military resources and weapon increases enabled corvettes to reliably destroy alien starbases without any defense upgrades. Corvettes are raider class ships. They are useful for beating on the AI at its weak points. Each constructor killed is one upgrade that has to wait.

Well, star fighters were 'tweaked' up in attack strength in the last point update (1.03A.057), to help the average player up their military rating early on, from what I've seen posted by Brad and his wonderful team. Personally, I find building Star Fighters/Corvettes and AMs a bit cheesy to get the AI off your back, when SFs don't seem useful for fighting bigger ships without some serious weapon techs, but that's just my view. SFs have their uses and I think they are a vital ship in ear
More missiles. Why is only Dreadnaught tech give us cheap, disposable anti-ship missiles? Including AMMs points out how lesser missiles are missing. How about 100 cost missiles that have an attack of 15 or 20? Or 200 cost missiles that have an attack of 40 to 50? New units available at the lesser techs. Heck, if you stacked a Attack 10 missile with Corvette Technology, and had the other missiles require that, you change a dead end tech path to a useful one, and enable a way for
You can win GalCiv without ever firing a shot. Going militarily helps (as the common AI strategy is to pick off the weakest to capture their worlds and get stronger, until there are no longer anyone but itself and its allies left), but you do not have to. However, you do need to maintain a decent military rating. If you don't want the AI to come extorting, from what I've seen, you need at least 2/3's of its rating from AI you are not on decent terms with. You need 1/2 the rating of AI y
From what I've seen, having several worlds in the low morale range is a pre-existing condition that must be met first, then there is a random chance. This includes the AI's empires as well as your own.
Remember, some background tasks (like Seti@Home), seem to interfere with being able to submit to the Metaverse. Are you running this? Others have mentioned that having SDC up and running at game submital time can interfere with their ability to submit to the Metaverse as well.
Forceinfinity, under 1.03.054+, each starbase has a 5 Maintaince cost. If you are playing with an earlier version then that, then starbases are still 0 maintainence.
Sounds like excessive memory gymnastics to me, from what is being described here.
Version 1.03A.057 Multiple Wonders/Trade Goods: 2 Major AIs built a the same unique wonder. Seperated by 8 turns, so I would guess that the second AI simply didn't get its build queue 'reset' when the wonder got completed. Good job eliminating the ability to build any already built Trade Good/Unique Wonder from the General build queue.
Setup Option: Toggle for 'Enable Resources' (Yes or No). Would be interesing playing maps with no resources, or merely one of each kind. Game balance suggestions: Adjust the balance of the game back towards prior to 1.03A.059. SB costing 5 each is nothing at mid and late game, but crippling to early game. And in a middle sized galaxy, just grabbing the resources one knows about typically cripples empires ecomonies, especially the AIs. Minor races run away with the game
From what Frogboy/Brad says, they truncate.
I see a chance for a serious bug... What happens if you LOSE a less then PQ15 world to the AI? The AI now abandons those worlds, right? What happens to the ships from that world? Or what about if the ship's home gets Terror Starred? I'd think SD would be better off just recording the shipyard bonus when the ship was made. It would then get around the problem of lost home worlds...
It means to weaken or soften. The PQ+15 and PQ+10% were 'nerfed' (They were removed from the game.) because SD thought they were over-powering all other variations of civ ability picks. The Battle Hammer was nerfed in the latest (1.03.59) release (it was reduced in it's effectiveness as a warship), because SD thought it was being overly used. The term 'Nerf' comes from the toys, Nerf. They are basically soft, spongie foam versions of real objects. To 'Nerf' something i
Although--- I generally don't sell techs, most games. And I understand that sales prices for techs have been reduced.
The AI will trade and buy techs. I find it easiest to just buy techs. Easier then trading. After all, why trade 4 of my techs to get 1 of the AI's when I can BUY it, and then sell those 4 techs for more then I spent on BUYING the tech?
I think giving each governor their own spend priorities (slider settings) is a great idea! Post it in the suggestions thread!
So does Habitat Improvement. A very nice early tech.
The problem isn't the social structures versus economy... it's the cost of too many people. Late game, you'll be running 500 on expenses on a planet, because of all the people. For the economy boosters, most of the minor guys, (+5% Economy for 4 Maintence), I don't build until the planet has an income that will pay for itself in gained economy. Unless it is a manufacturing increaser. I like having Manu capability, so those get dropped in regardless. You need to also re
PQ, Morale, and Bonus to Growth.
* Personal Hall Of Fame Local listing of games played, scored, win/lose condition, etc. Shouldn't interfere with Metaverse. This will allow people to keep a list of their games played, and see their progress. Should help out with those that don't want to dial in to their ISP before winning the game just to get a record of their games, which is only accessible while on-line.
What's the point of submitting a losing game to the Metaverse? Except for yourself? From the 'improving the AI' POV, that is pointless. Unless EVERYONE always plays out all their games, and submits them. Why? Because that would be the only way for Star Dock to judge when they have the AI tuned for that 'level' of play. ;)
It does seem that Brad and his team have already made use of the Metaverse data to adjust the game balance. So that is one thing positive out of the Metaverse already.
Just finished playing out a game of 1.03.54. Had worm-hole creating lots of growth random event. Open still mispelled as "oppen".
A list breakdown of the ships and their expected/projected/stardockian vision would be helpful. Shall we put it together? Break out the spreadsheets/databases and have a whack at it?
Sounds like it is time to sit down and reappraise the role of all ships. If they aren't useful, there isn't a reason to have them in the game, after all. That, or consider going to a custom build model, with the cost of ships to make based on the cost of parts + mass + inefficency. I know they want to stay away from that, but this pass of Battle Hammers and other ships being so changed does show that their is loss of understanding why ships are in the game in the first place.<b
