I've noticed that there is always a small square visible in the top left sector on the map edge, in all my games. Very noticeable when I'm using scouts to push back the fog of war (searching for those resources, ;)). Another graphics glitch that is ALWAYS present: One the first level of the light blue (Alterians?) starbase, there is a missing frame in the animation, so that it hops. Only occurs on the light blue star bases, and only on the base level ones.

Coffee Freak, I can guarantee you that starting position can dictate that you will lose, unless you cheat. It can also give you the win, unless you just decide to sit on your hands for a thousand turns. GalCiv is a game about resource usage. if you have no resources (no world but your starting earth, no resources, etc), then the AI will beat you silly. Because it has more resources, and is utilizing them. You can start a game and say: I'm going for cultural victory thi
They are supposed to be, from rumors here I've read. They seem like just another Yellow Star from what I've seen in my games though.
Yes, it is still wasted.
I frequently really rotten luck on random starts, for most 4x games. In GalCiv, examples of this are generating 6 games in a row on Gigantic, being in one of the 4 corners, and no stars within 6 sectors of my home sector. Whoopsie! I'm not kidding about this. Starting position is always the master of the game in random maps in 4x games. In games I consider "good", you can adapt and overcome most "moderately bad" starting postitions. But at some point, you have to recognize that there ju
Vince... No, you weren't. So don't feel too bad about it.
But if you constructed a travelled node network, so that you only added segments to the network to get from a new place or go to a new place, and only did a recalc of the 'star lanes' every 50 or 100 turns or so (whenever a new star speed tech is discovered, for instance), then pathing calc time wouldn't be too bad, would it? And I've seen the AI path in S curves plenty, when there was nothing in the way. Even add to its distance for travel, by going directly sideways before heading off
StarVald, I rename the ship I'm giving away/selling, so that it will be easy to find at the top of the list in the diplomacy screen. If I am being picky, I even give it a number. When I name my own ships, I use a system of: SHIP ABBREVIATION-# Name Like: SCT-1 Lewis SCT-2 Clark I find this very handy. Using USS or TF or whatever abbreviation before it merely eats into your display length, and puts all your ships that much futher down for names
As has been said, that's old cheese, and has been occasionally reported already. Simplest answer: When an alliance member, but only one of them, makes peace, they should be forced out of the alliance. They aren't meeting their alliance terms, after all. But that would mean you need the ability to negotiate with all alliance members at once... so that you/they can negotiate a truce as a unit, and remain in their alliance. And then how do you get them all to pay individually thei
Yin, where? I see a game of his that scored 0 and he won. Triggered the anti-cheat code, I would suppose. Pop-Up Target... glad you had a blast! :D
Er... should it show anything? You realize that most modules have some prerequisite tech you have to research before they will show up in the starbase upgrade screen?
It is great support!
Well, I had literally over a 100 CTDs with my last complete 1.03.54 game. Fresh game, no MODS. The main ones were the save CTDs. Several varieties exists. Main one I saw of save CTD was that it would be able to save the AI info, but crashed at the very start of the human info. This didn't corrupt the game. It caused all info but the human info to be updated, resulting in a time slip for the human player. The second most CTD I saw was related to the AI abandoning worlds
My last 1.03.054 game had hundreds (literally) of CTDs. Between the new save game CTDs (crashing when it is time to save the Human info), to the crashing caused when giving an AI a planet it abandons, I hit lots of CTDs. No problem with my scoring the game. I'd suspect it was having all the good and evil techs. Or your extreme score in one or more fields.
BH's have a maintenance of 6. I tend to build frigates as gifts and sales items to the AI. I keep BH's for my own empire's defensive needs, and only gift/sale them to AI that I want to keep in the game. Frigates are merely a demonstrator for battle ships. They make good ships for popping weaker enemy SB's.
Sorry. That was version 1.03.54.
Version 1.03.53 CTD while saving game. Very aggravating. 2 actual seperate errors. One crashes at start, leaving previous autosave intact. Second corrupts autosave, requiring player to recover via loading PreviousAutosave. CTD while AI moves. Apparently tries to establish an identical trade route, which causes CTD. Game file zipped. Can be contacted at registered email address for metaverse.
This governor behavior (swapping off to something else) happens when you *change* that governor's priority/build orders. They don't seem to swap off building something in their list example: inserting your newly discovered banks at #2 in build priority, will not make your governor swapp off building the now #3 entertainment complex, but it will get you to swap of 'Aphrodisiac'. I really haven't decided if I like this (feature) or dislike it ('percieved bug').
Frogboy and team... GREAT JOB! You've got a great product. And you give great support. I think most of your GalCiv customers are very, very happy. There will always be a few people that will complain, and there will always be people that think your product should be something else. And there are always some people that don't do well at making constructive suggestions. Don't let the negative stuff get you down. For every one of those here, there are 10 saying 'great job!' and 'w
Vorlin Varelse, 1) I'm slow 2) I'm haven't mastered the military/conquerer victory path of the game yet. I don't have anything against the military path. I just don't have the tech tree down yet. Plus, being a bit slow still at the game overall, so by the time I figure out I need to be going for military or a super cheese production/economy, the Dreg's are often demanding I give them all my tech, all my ships, my home world (which amounts to all my worlds in such a setting)
Brad, thanks to you and your team for the outstanding support! I look forward to trying out some of the newly fixed bonus traits! :D
I'd prefer the PQ+ was back. I have extraordinary bad luck... I've genuinely generated large maps that ended up with the AI each having 3 HUGE Planets (Yellow Stars), all in their starting sectors, and the only thing left in the galaxy was 2 13 and 2 14 worlds. That isn't unusal for my game playing luck, and once you are already down a few hours just exploring the map, it ruins the fun to have to continually 'Restart' just because of poor map being popped out of the RNG. Also, half the
GalCiv could use some interface polishing. I've experienced the problem of being asked what module to build on a starbase, well the main screen (and side list) were busy displaying other things. I've had the Technology screen blocking the main, the diplomacy list (due to having just "sold" or gifted my last 'manual' ship to an AI), and even the planet screen. It happens. Generally, I've had a good idea which base it was, thanks to the modules already present/built but... I thin
What level are you playing at? They got 'caged' so they wouldn't show up on the lower levels.
I had a few SDC issues intially. Now, it works fine for me. As far as improving SDC for the clueless... I'd think some form of link or button on the Software tab, out beside the product(s) that would cause the interface to pop up and be set to enter in CD/Subscription numbers would be very helpful to the new customer trying to find that thing. But that would only be currently applicable to GalCiv? Or do the other Star Dock products have their own entries when they are installed?
