Dave, are you sure the thread is deleted? Or merely buried? :) And there is a situation where, as a developer, you here your users complaining of a bug you know you fixed. It could even have been verified by QA as fixed. So you tend to ignore complaints and reports about that bug still occuring... as you know it's fixed. Users are often mistaken, you know. About what version they are running, etc. Only, the bug is actually in multiple places, and you only fixed one instance of

Just had a game (049) where the Alexians built Gravity Accelerators. Later, the Alterians built it as well. It's definately a problem between Minor AI being able to do so regardless, and the Major being able to do so/finish. Oh well. I abandoned that game because of the CTD every turn. Just got too aggravating for me tonight. I hadn't had that problem before 049. It's a great game and all. But I do hope that these CTD issues get resolved soon.
MadMaz, I frankly don't care. Listen to what the Frogboy says, and has said in the past. I know it isn't easy to search out all his posts, but that's exactly what he has said in the past. Minus the whiny. He used the word belly-aching. Are you a subscriber to Drengin.net? Or a one-time only purchase? Who do they have an ongoing commitment to? Stardock has chosen to be super fantastic, and give retail/one time only purchases a full one year of support and upgrades. They don't HA
The AI will finish building out the trade/wonder. And you can still build trade/wonders by using the generic que. There is an interesting bug, where if you queue up a unique multiple times, if *you* finish building it, all your other planets building it will continue to do so. You can effectively have all your planets be economic capitals, manufacturing caps, etc doing this. As well as build multiple wonders and trade goods...
To be able to immediately colonize any yellow stars in their current sector. If there are any. I've actually started a game with a minor in my starting sector, and 3 other yellow stars. We had a fine and merry colonization race for the stars to start the game off. They eventually joined my culture, BTW.
Star Dock Central will show the full version number
I'd prefer if they weren't named USS at all. Most of the AI ships aren't. Why do they get a random number tossed on their end? Why not just use a counter? When I bother to name my ships, I tend to use: SCT-# NAME (for Scouts) DEF-# NAME (for Defenders) CORV-# NAME (for Corvettes) BA-# NAME (for Battle Axes) BH-# NAME (for Battle Hammers) BC-# NAME (for Battle Cruisers) SENS-# NAME (for Sensor Drones) BS-# NAME (for Battle Ship) DRED-# NAME (f
Since the nerf that prevented them from showing up on the lower levels, I haven't seen them early on. I did see them late game, a couple of games ago. Just reached being able to occasionally hold my own on Normal, so it should be interesting with the space monsters. Normally, if it wasn't a mass outbreak (repeated turns of space monsters), I'd just use a few scout craft to lead them to my opponent's territory. Let them shread the AIs ships and starbases... When it was multi tur
It is still there. There are apparently several code branches that deal with Wonders/Trade Goods. So the bug is still present in 049. It has only been partially eliminated.
Well, as far as adjusting things go... it depends on what you see a Battle Hammer should be able to beat, and what should be able to beat it. Then modding the stats until that happens on average. Should a frigate be able to beat it? Or a battleship? How many of what kinds of ships should it take to beat a Battle Hammer? The AI uses Battle Axes plenty in the games I've played.
That should still be sectored based, Vanir. Just a guess of mine, but that would be logically consistant.
What you are missing is that this isn't a forum. Its a magic trick to allow web users to use the galciv newsgroups that the Star Dock Central program uses. Since SDC came first, SD isn't going to trash out their established customer base to make a few 'whiny' people using the web interface happy. It would make their larger, SUBSCRIBER base, unhappy. When you have 100 happy subscribing customers who like the system as is, and 1 or 2 whiny customers who want you to change everything so it
Myomer, I've been getting the impression that Brad feels that the peaceful path is too easy, and wanted to make it more difficult/encourage other victory paths. Just my impression, mind you, but with the changes to to Culture/Influence, etc... That is what is being communicated to me. And regardless of 'reality', anything that really improves the AI's ability at handling its starbases, which is one of the key issues concerning starbases, would lead to better games (more fun) for all pla
The economy screen, over on the right, shows you what your expense break down is. How much for military ships (Military), Social project upkeep, espionage, tribute and leases you are paying, etc. And you are welcome. Some people go with leasing extra colony ships in the beginning, for a chance at some yellow worlds. others go for 100% max spending with high Military, 0 Social, and minor Research at the start. (Doing that, you can spit out a colony ship every 3 to 2 turns in the begining
Actually, I think there is a 'cheat' in the diplomacy. It's been mentioned in the fixes that they've been nerfing the human/AI deals. I haven't seen anything about them nerfing AI/AI deals. Maybe I missed it? It is one of the few points where dealing with the human is different then dealing with the other AIs. Most 'cheats' of the AI are actually bugs. Not intentional design. (Bug, wonders being repeatable, for instance.) But there are a few places where there is a difference between Hu
Second what Norin says. The Drengin believe in blackmailing all weaker races. Especially the Minors. Be a bit low on that military standing (like, last, with 0 Minors about), and you'll hear them come knocking, demanding lots of money, and any techs you have that would boost them along to Dreadnaught, or improve their ships. That's their secret. They blackmail until the lesser races go bankrupt, and then take them over. And continue to do so until they win. The bee-line for Bat
You can still trade with non-UP races. Like the minors. And I-League.
Tribute isn't limited to 50 turns. Just the SLIDER is limited to 50 turns. You can manually enter larger amounts. I often do. I like to have the AI paying me huge sums, split into easy to pay low monthly installments, effectively FOREVER. The AI understand it costs more over time (interests), and therefore is willing to pay for something. You can effectively be 'Mitrosoft' to them for what you are selling.
On economy: Encyclopedia. Economy. Lots of explainaints. When I started playing, I left the tax and spending sliders on the economics screen alone. Just messed with the Military/Social/Research split to begin with. The initial presets of tax/spend is 33%/50%. Which means you are trying to spend more then you get in tax. After you get rolling along, that means you are going in the whole. Initially, you cannot actually spend all that 50% (not enough workers) so it doesn't matter.
Most of my games don't last to Rangers. But give me time... ;)
If people are playing for points in the Metaverse, they need to play particular games set up for particular circumstances. After all, you score better the LONGER you play a game. And the bigger the galaxy, the more the worlds, the better your score. The Metaverse is a tool for the developers to get a bunch of games, and see what the playing community is doing. It is meant to allow the developers to adjust and tune the AI. Everything else are little carrots meant to encourage us, the pla
I'd disagree with Phaedyme about the bug/suggestion forum being civil. It flames over easily. I think the mods just keep it well patrolled and change its diaper every hour. The MoO1/2 forum seems to be highly civil. Don't know about the others. Have no reason to bother with them while waiting on the new code patch...
You know, I'm not a top of the line player or anything by far. But I have already had several games where I had to build Frigates and Battle Cruisers over Battle Hammers so that I might be able to reach out and 'touch' a target. So it does happen. That difference in range can come into play, depending on the particulars of the game.
Influence affects are not limited to the sector the star base is in. Also, star bases extend how far your ships may travel. They act as a 'colony' in determining permissable range of travel.
Well, I don't find it is a fun killer. And the speed attribute isn't really a percentage. When you gain Speed +10, it adds +1 move. Why? I think it is because the game movement was simplified, from when each minor square was really 10 squares of movement. If you pay attention to the game, sometimes the AI still moves in 10ths of positioning. Would you prefer to have the percent notation removed? Remember, this is a single player game. So there is absolutely zero chance
