People are unhappy with it? Only people that think a beta is a program ready to be sold to the public. GC2 isn't ready for that yet. If that is what you want, you are better off playing a different game, and waiting until GC2 goes gold. Have fun!

GalCiv1 had a female leader. A governor. She is either #2 or #3 on the list of 4 names. I thought several events showed women. Erm... other then human and Altarians, we definately will not be able to tell what sex an alien species is. Well, not the common gamer. I suppose in-game the particulars could become learned easily enough (ie, perhaps Drengin males are red, and Drengin females are purple, and really old (too old to reproduce) Drengin's fur fade to green. That's up to the

You need to pre-order the game. If you pre-order, you will be able to test/play GalCiv2 starting with its Beta. This is a real beta, meaning the game will sometimes crash, the game balance isn't polished/fine tuned, etc etc etc. If you don't want to test the beta, you can pre-order the game and not participate in the beta. Or, you can wait until the game is released. If you'd like to participate in the beta, then you need to pre-order the game. Alternatively, you can subscr

An yet, all polls on this forum about whether people would actually want/use/pay for a MP GC turn out "NO!" by a factor of 9 to 1. Also note that Civ4 changes its format so you can play an entire game in less then 4 hours. This was "required" to make the game suitable for MP play, according to the Civ Developers. 2 hours or less is the preferred time frame for an truly strategic MP game. MP has a lot of different design concerns then SP play. StarDock has already stated tha

CeZeus, you can win a cultural victory in Civ4. You can easily flip all but the capital cities of your opponents in Civ4, if you want to bother. However, their caps won't ever flip. You can block them in (take all their useful land away), but you cannot flip a capital. So no conquest through pure culture flipping of cities. A cultural victory in Civ is an easy thing to do though, as it's merely a matter of getting a couple of wonders and all religious academies into 3 cities. You'll h

Ah! Light breaks over marble head! That's what specialization is for. Letting the AI better classify what form of threat a player base is! Humm... but I love my mobile party palaces that included their own resource! That was so nice to drag them to my home sector to aid my home world in building Avatars/Overlords in 1 turn!

Off topic: Civ4's space victory is the same as Civ3. You have a particular list of ship parts you have to build. As soon as you have built them all, you win. It's not the Civ1/Civ2 matter of designing a ship with a % chance of getting there. It's the Civ3 of 5 casings (hull platings), 3 thrusters, 1cockpit, 1 docking, 1 statis module, 1 engine (power plant). Do that all before any other player has (and they have to have the tech to build the parts, so tech leader usually wins), and win. if someo

7% means that a PQ 14 turns into PQ15, IIRC. As the average PQ of good worlds is 10 now, it's a useless ability. If the retail baseline of the game is going to be PQ 10 = Earth/Good World, then it needs to be 10% for a decent amount of your available customization points (yielding 1 extra tile per Earth quality), and 20% for the lion's share of your customization points (yielding 1 extra tile on a PQ 5 world, and 2 extra tiles on an Earth). Of course, if the base line for retail goes

That ship facing glitch is due to its facing not being remembered/calculated at all before its first displayed. The default is north. Scroll a ship of yours on autopilot off screen, hit turn. Scroll over to where your off-screen ship is. It has lost its facing. Not a critical thing in a beta, but something that needs to be polished up before "retail" release.

Let's remember, this is a war game. And even if you are good and they are good, that doesn't mean that you two will refuse to go to war against each other. So your relative miltiary strength should independantly modify your relations, regardless of your morality. It seems logical that "Evil to Evil" doesn't grant as large a positive bonus as it is a GC standard that Evil civs like other less then Good civs. Evil civs liking each other less means that they will more often turn on their

I believe that the current map sizes are "smaller" then the planned final versions. IIRC, the reason for that is to allow better control over testing while GC2 is in Beta.

It is an interesting idea. However, I think it should be reserved as part of the higher difficultly level functionality. This means that lower level games would allow complete control of the budget for the entire game, while at Maso and Wacko levels, the player would only have their party's control as you suggested. This would then differentiate the higher difficulty levels by adding in a basic intertia to a player's empire that he has to juggle/manipulate.

A gun is a gun. If it takes 5 space on a tiny ship, the same gun should take 5 space on a titan's hull. What GC is missing is POWER PLANT. Bigger ships need bigger power plants to power all their stuff. The percentage of hull space must represent power plant, maintanence space (ie, crawlspaces for refitting/repair/maintenance), targetting mechanisms (turrets/battery/blister structure etc), and ammo storage/on demand production. That's the only thing I can think of that should cause a

Thanks Kryo! I was beginning to wonder if my late game CTDs were due to worlds cultural flipping. BTW, I tried to change governments in my last couple of plays of the Beta 4 (First Build). I couldn't change my government by clicking on the tabs, even though I had researched that government form. Is there something I'm missing, or is that not yet implemented?

Not every other city. However, I have won a Civ4 game by taking all AI cities that weren't the AI's CAPITAL cities through cultural strength. In Civ4, you can win Culturally by having 3 legendary cities (only takes building all religious academies in 3 cities, with a couple of wonders). It's the Civ4 equivalent of a Galaxy Culture win in GC. Cultural Victories were easier under Civ3... that was identical to the GC1 cultural victory. Just have the dominant cultural strength in compari

Looks very good, Brad! However, I think Mike C's suggestions are very good. I think they should be considered as well. If I'm a big (significant) trade partner of their enemy that should count against me in their evaluation, just as if I am a big trade partner of theirs that should aid our relations. Also, being allied with their enemies should be a bad thing for your relations, just as being allied with them should be a good thing for your relations.

I wondering if anyone is finding the specialization of starbases to be very useful. I've noticed that I build what I always built in GC1... economy maximizers in my world sectors, influence/culture bases beside my enemy worlds that I want to culture flip. Military bases? I've only built them to see what they do. They could be useful in the right conditions, but I haven't had occasion to be in those circumstances. (I'm primarily a peaceful builder turtle that go for culture or science

When I first reset my disabled and volume 0 levels, I only got the button click effects. It took some time before the game noticed that music was enabled, and it started to play the music as it used to in Beta3. I don't know why. But once it started, it continued to do so.

Considering that you get the pop up asking what you want to research next, you really don't need the Research icon. It's just repetitive without granting you any useful info, isn't it?

The main point of confusion seems to the be the actual label. The label should therefore be changed to something more intuitive, from ownership to "Influence" or "Cultural Domination". The change of "Ownership" to "Influence" or "Cultural Domination" would remove the hard link that the space in a color belongs to that empire. Personally, I like having a military claimed space. But I wouldn't want it based on Military Power. It shouldn't matter if I've got a military that is 10x strong

It won't get rid of the icon if you go to planet from the GNN pop up. It will remove the icon if you go to the planet from the icon. It would make most sense if it removed the icon if you go to planet via the pop up.
