OK, I've posted 1.2.0A on the home page for the public users. For the betas, you'll soon receive an e-mail with a download link for 1.2.2. Thanks for letting me know about this bug, and I'm sorry for the inconvenience. ~SDC~

Grr! Don't bother posting your version, I've found the problem. How on earth it slipped by my testing is beyond me, I must have slapped it in and then never went into Techs again. It's an easy enough fix. I'll post an updated 1.2.0 in a little bit on the home page (call it 1.2.0A), and I'll e-mail the betas about a new 1.2.2 as well. Thanks for the head's up! ~SDC~

Posted a new public version for the GCW on the home page tonight: http://www.ctuit.com/bill/galciv.htm This one has everything but the Improvements and English.str editing screens (those are still in beta). It also has a whole slew of little tweaks and improvements for the other editing screens. So if you wanted to add some new Anomalies, Political Parties, Invasion Tactics, or Ships, grab this version today! As always, if you have a suggestion or if you fi

From what I've read of the Stardockian posts, it would appear that Crime and Cabinet are not currently implemented. Crime was supposed to affect your standing treasury balance every turn (or year) and represent money lost due to corruption. Then Crime was going to have this effect only when your treasury was above a certain BC value. I've never heard an explanation for Cabinet. Interest Rates affects the number of months on the lease. A 10% bonus will drop the amount

You can find the Writer at: http://www.ctuit.com/bill/galciv.htm You can follow the development in the thread at the top of this forum, "GalCiv Writer". Please let me know how it works for you! ~SDC~

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.
It might not be the best choice for that kind of tool as it's a rather big download, but I began to work on that project to teach myself C#.
That's funny, because if I were to do a ModSwapper, I'd do it in VB.NET- because I need to get up to speed on .NET. In order to justify the time I'd put into it, I'd need something back, i.e. gaining experience in the language.
One advantage is that you can do

Overall I think they are really good. You asked for feedback though, so there are a couple of issues with them. Dune Dreadnought: - No model when it is in orbit. - No picture when you click on the "?" button when perusing a planet's build queue. - The angle of the ship when travelling pointing in the "1" direction (lower left) is a little off. It looks like it is side-slipping. Star Trek Heavy Cruisers: - No picture when you click on the "?" button when perusi

I'm checking them out right now. The link for the ST Heavy Cruisers appears to be dead, however. ~SDC~
Does anyone know where within /data, I can change the points available for abilities in the set-up screen? I can't seem to find an associated file anywhere. Am I missing something?thank you.
There are two ways to interpret your statement. If you mean can you change the amount of points to spend (currently 10), the answer, I believe, is no. I have not yet come across where you can set this. If someone knows where you can change this, I'd be delighted to be prove

@Littleboy: Wow, you bring up a lot of good points. I'll respond tomorrow when my brain is not fried from programming 10 hours straight. I finished Improvements tonight. That's the last of the base files. I'm going to take it easy for a bit before figuring out what to work on next. Here's a screenie for the Improvements screen, alas there's no pretty picture to display: http://www.ctuit.com/bill/Improvements.jpg ~SDC~

Wow! That looks like great. I like the way you worked the graphics into the interface. What language did you write it in? I'm not that familiar with modswapping tools, so pardon me if this is a dumb question, but is it normal to list "one-off" mods in the mod-swapper? I guess I'd thought that a mod-swapper would only be useful for "total conversion" mods, where a bunch of files are changed. I didn't realize people might use it to keep track of the single files they download
It's challenging finding mods who know the game really well and can test out hte mods.
It depends on what 'Stardock Certification' will mean, in my view. Take me for an example. After I finish adding Improvements to the Writer (probably later tonight), I'll have parsed, prodded, poked, and in general just tested the heck out of every plain text file available (and am now eye-balling those hex based save game files). Not to overstate things, but I can look at a

This is from the outside looking in, but I think it is fairly obvious that Stardock's resources have been devoted to other things- crash bugs, E3, additional features, updates, stuff like that. The Library has been a very low priority. I continue to advocate having patience, once Stardock catches their breath we'll see some movement on the Library front. One thing to keep in mind, the Library was a late addition to the 'plan'- suggested by the pre-release beta testers. They we
If you modify a ship in galciv, will every race get that modification
Yes. There is no setting in the Ship file for Race, nor are there separate Ship files per Race. Make a change and it is global.
and is there anyway to modify the human race in galcic without modifying others
Not sure what you mean here. Why not give an example of what you would like to change for the humans, and I'll see if I can help you. ~SDC~

I think what you describe, Staffa, is doable. That data has to be in the saved game files. They are hex based (not plain-text), but parsing them out would not be insurmountable. Then you'd just have to whip up a GUI to allow the player to set their government, spend their 10 points, and then save. Boot up GalCiv, point it at the edited file, and away you go. All of the above is only theory at this point, of course. I've made some initial forays into reading in the h
