"art scraps" idea, way cool. I'd love that. I've already gone through the pcx's not currently used in the \GFX directory (there's a few) and made my own events for them. Will have to check out WinCustomize. Anyone know of any other sources for graphics? ~SDC~
But as far as the issue with your access to the Galactic Council. Try this. Using the Webbrowser in SDC, go to Galciv.com and logoff. Then relogon back on.
Worked great! Thanks for the follow-up. You guys rock. ~SDC~
Well, I see the "edit" icon now, but quoting no longer works. How weird.
This is a test of a quote from a browser, not SDC. *edit* Looks like I can't quote from SDC any more, but the browser works. I'll stop cluttering up this thread with my test posts now. [Message Edited]

If you logoff and relogon does this problem still exists? Testing this. ~SDC~
If you logoff and relogon does this problem still exists? If closing SDC and re-launching it will force a logoff/relogon, then yes, the problem still exists. I do use SDC from two machines, and both have this problem. Hope this helps. ~SDC~
You are very welcome! You are in the exact same boat as me, plenty of ideas, don't have the drawing skills to carry them out. I'll be very interested in any response you get. I'm willing to play opposites with the artist too, *you* give me the picture, *I'll* come up with an event that fits. :) ~SDC~
I am that player, and you can the website at: http://www.ctuit.com/bill/galciv.htm And if you look at the top of this forum, you will find a thread dedicated to the Writer. Have fun, let me know how it works out. ~SDC~
I got that far too, but that's as far as I got. Looks like it was more than just removed from the file, it was nerfed internally too. ~SDC~
First, thank you very much! Two tiny problems. I can no longer view threads in "Galactic Council", they all say I am not authorized to view this page. This might be intentional, I'll just scrap that forum if so. Plus, that's the first time I've seen the Edit icon. Does it only appear when you post from the website rather than SDC? ~SDC~
I'm pretty sure that most of this stuff is hard coded. I'd imagine that all the Table Aliases and Keys are- these entries *must* be something the GalCiv engine will recognize. The Values are editable though. ~SDC~
Here you go, 4D. Ask and you shall receive: http://www.ctuit.com/bill/english_str.jpg It is still pretty rough, but you can see where I'm going with this. ~SDC~
I would much prefer to spend the limited engineering resources available to add in features, tweak gameplay, enhance the AI, and make the game more fun for the 99% of the players who are not playing the game to crank out the best metaverse score they can get.
Just when I was starting to get a little discouraged, a ray of hope from Frogboy himself. :HOT: ~SDC~
I posted instructions on how to do this on another forum, here's the link: http://www.cdgroup.org/forums/tbs/gc/viewtopic.php?t=100 Scroll down, find the long-ish post from me. That should tell you what you need to know. Good luck. ps- I don't know of any file you can just paste back in to recover the 15% PQ bonus. My instructions detail how to edit English.str to resurrect it. ~SDC~
To date, all events work with all versions of GalCiv. Stardock has not changed the event formatting from the initial release. For that matter, they haven't changed the format of any of the text files since release. The ex-pack has talk of expanded event options, so I would imagine they might break compatibility at that point (or not, they could just introduce a new text file type), but for now they'll work fine. ~SDC~
That is your opinion, and you are welcome to it. I disagree, but in the end, what does it matter? Point is, the modding community is withering on the vine. ~SDC~
I have to agree with Ryan, the Metaverse, as it stands, has had a chilling effect on the modding community. The first question anyone has when a mod is discussed is "What will this do to my Metaverse legality?". Simply having some guidelines on what is, and what is not, permissible will go a long way in warming up the modders. I've said it before- the Library and the Metaverse are, in a way, the antithesis of each other. For the Metaverse to work, it is assumed that everyone is playi
I've looked at it, it's on my list of "things to take a poke at once the base files are done". Keeping track of all the data is the challenge, as you pointed out. The really good news (I think, have to test more thoroughly), is that no line breaks are allowed, so parsing the file would be easy. ~SDC~
Anomalies: http://www.ctuit.com/bill/anomalies.jpg and Invasion Tactics: http://www.ctuit.com/bill/invtactics.jpg done. Just Improvements remain, phew! ~SDC~
To be clear, I'm not talking about this:
"The MoO model of making certain random techs unavailable except through trade would be great."
That would require separate tech trees for the different races, which is currently not possible (all races feed off the same tech tree). Don't get me wrong, this would be cool too, but it's impossible without Stardock's involvement. ~SDC~
This is a really interesting idea. And from my perspective, wouldn't even need Stardock's involvement. The algorithms would be tricky to code, but I could probably add some randomization functions to the GCW. That'd be pretty cool. I'm already loading all the text files into memory, it wouldn't be difficult to switch the dependencies around. Just having it all still make sense and be balanced would be tricky. Don't know how random you could get without break
"otherwise we need to be able to group mod files together using some "scenario declaration"."
*nods*, yes, that's on my feature list for the mod swapper. If I do the mod swapper, I'm going to download the CTP2 ModSwapper and use it to help me flesh out the feature list before I start programming. ~SDC~
How do you modify an mdl file? Do you know what format it is? ~SDC~
Of course, welcome aboard. E-mail me at: And I'll send you a link to the latest beta version. ~SDC~
Wow, that UPX compactor works great! Most excellent, thank you Steeljaw! ~SDC~
