I guess the "trick" is to maximize the number of habitable planets, so you max pop and economy, and to play on Suicidal (if only I could do that!). I've seen elsewhere that it might be better to slow down tech advances so the game plays out longer.

Okay, these probably aren't reasonable suggestions, but since you asked...(did you ask? ) I apologize if any of these have already been done, I haven't played enough to know. But please tell me if they have! - I think Trade Goods should require two unrelated techs instead of one to be able to build. This would make them more challenging to obtain and would add for more play diversity, sin

Okay, I guess that is it but I wondered if I was missing something. My games are decided in 5-7 years. So the people that get these very high scores are just pushing end turn lots of times? I would rather get the win and start another game.

So I've won a few games and can get around 20000 points per game. But I see people getting scores >100000 points in the same amount of time. Is there a trick to getting a high score? Do you allow the game to go longer so you can grow your population? It seems kind of boring to wait when you've got the game in hand.

To play the Humans, try rushing to get Diplomatic Translators. Then trade techs like crazy. Trade the same tech to every player in the game for as much tech and money as they will give you. Trade easy techs for hard ones. Repeat as desired. Seems to work okay, at least on Challenging and lower settings.

My normal thing is to immediately buy/build 3 or 4 factories and start cranking out colony ships. But I noticed the developer Draginol building research labs first instead. This got me thinking--which should be your first investment: factories or labs? Factories will allow you to make stuff faster, but after you run out of the initial dough you are stretched too thin. Labs would allow you to get more techs faster, which could lead to faster/better

I've only played one Metaverse game which I luckily won, but if I lost a game would I have to submit it? Is there any significance in your metaverse score to wins and losses? Wins are better I suppose!

Don't know if this is relevant, but if the Torian ships are fighting a lot of battles, then their crews are getting a lot of experience, which makes them stronger, right?

Not sure if this is a bug or newbie lack of understanding, but I recently had the Torians surrender their empire to me and it included a PQ 15 planet that sadly I could not build anything on. No matter what I did, it always said "Never" for any improvements. Is there an in-game explanation (like you can't rule an alien race) or was it just some strange bug?

Okay, so I've got the latest version of GC:AP and I'm trying to understand the add on packs in the libraries. Are the add on packs (like the Omega pack) play tested? Is it sanctioned by Stardock or download at your own risk? Is there a standard add on pack that is generally believed to greatly enhance the game? Or should I just play a dozen or so games with the basic set before considering adding anything? Thanks for all help! Sandlapper.

If I click on the "Show Population" Button, I get to see the population of planets that I've never been to. This is a handy way to figure out where the aliens are. Is this a bug? I don't think I should be able to tell which systems are inhabited if I've never been there. ~SDC~

After I colonize a planet, my population often seems to drop. It will drop sometimes from 100M to just 5M, even on PQ 15 worlds and higher. Is this normal, or am I mismanaging my empire somehow to cause this to happen? This is my first post ever. (Yay!) Sandlapper. ~SDC~

I updated my retail version from Stardock Central...it was a snap. It didn't even mess up my saved game. I think the part about Tools --> Refresh Application Data is critical. My question: is there a way that I can get the version number from within the game. I would really like to be able to see that I am running 1.01a instead of 1.01. Glenn. ~SDC~
