Jourin, was your connection established before you hit your victory condition and subsequent summary screen? What type of connection are you on if you dont mind me asking? Also make sure the email and screen name on the submission screen matches metaverse. What you seem to be reporting is that you don't get a submission screen at all. What that tells me is that your connection may be offline at the time you need to submit. I've had only one instance myself where the submissi

Infodragon, I would buy off on your conclusion, if only for the fact that 1) This behavior with ships being removed or added to your fleet from production/disbandment takes place 2) Remember when I mentioned that if military spending is zero'd now, no new ships are being introduced to the fleet, the time in between turns gets much shorter (we're talking the delay gets cut from about 15 to 20 seconds to maybe 1 or 2) 3) Assuming your statement to be true, say I'm gi

Weighing in at about 3 MB total, the save folder the game is actually quite nominal when compared to other games. (Moo3's save game sizes weigh in nearly 2 MB but take less than 30 seconds to load in general)

It shouldn't be that slow though. Assuming you have a 1 gigahertz processor, that means 1 billion clock cycles in a second. Your CPU can probably push about 20 to 40 MB per second at least. The save files themselves aren't nearly that big. Assuming each side has 1000 objects a piece, you're looking at maybe 10000 objects to load and place. Since all objects are essentially byte data (hence integer), CPUs are able to load and store the data fairly quickly. I've seen roleplaying game

The whole Moo3 debacle was largely a product of a major turnover at the top of the team and a bunch of chaos going on at the publisher level (which owns the rights). Apparently my understanding was that old management go thrown out and new management took over midway through the project. At that point the whole IFP thing got thrown out because the designer that came up with the idea was no longer there to see it through and couldn't be implemented. The result was a mini-rewrite using

I'm sure it's been reported here and there that performance gets to be an issue when you get toward the end of games on the larger maps. I noticed something rather striking when at one point, I adjusted my military slider to zero. When I did that, the performance got ALOT better. So this begs the question of why it is so much slower and what is it about military that's dragging it down. Now based on a few things I'm seeing, I don't think the bottleneck is the AI. It seems to be do

From what I understand, the Metaverse scores are supposed to favor the faster kind of victories. It got adjusted because too many people were milking the scores. Personally, I'd say let them. That's part of the game mechanic. If I had the upper hand, I'd go for the most points I can. That's the whole reason they're there for. What'd I'd like to see happen is that the speed of victory take into account the type of victory pulled off (generally tech victories will take longer than m

I've not noticed that so much as I've seen load times increase dramatically as you get further in the game. I'm not sure why this is the case.... other than it seems like you're loading a replay or some such thing. It seems way out of whack to the save time (in other words saves go ALOT quicker than load times).

Here's the story. I'm playing on the Intelligent levels onwards. Generally on Huge. I'm in the universalist party with my spending dumped into economics +30, social+20 and military +20. I'm generally able to snap up an awful lot of worlds from the word go, and I *think* I'm in good shape. By the time I hit the the AI, I'm in the back-end of my colonization phase and ready to move into the military/industry buildup phase. The problem is the AI is already demanding tribute fr

I'm going to assume this whole thing is a bug. Assuming of course that Stardock designed this as an object oriented program, this bug could actually be fixed with a couple of small code changes. Assuming they have an object...say Planet which has a set of attributes such as PQ, X position, Y position and so on, all they would need to do is add an attribute, say private bool bPlanetEvent = false; Declare a getPlanetEvent () and setPlanetEvent(bool event) method.

1. I liked the movie quite a bit, and I certainly thought it was much much better than the first movie. Yeah it had a lot of action. The characters were fleshed out a bit better. Nightcrawler stole the show. 2. There was once scene involving Magneto toward the middle of the movie, where I thought it was rather borderline. I wouldn't want my kids seeing it (I dont want to spoil this for people who've not seen the movie yet. My inclination is anyone over 13 is okay...lower than tha

This has bugged me some in the game because I cannot begin to count the times I've pounced on a research resource and watched as my enconomy more or less buckled due to the research suddenly taking an ungodly amount of money. I especially notic this as I am further down the research tree. Basically I have to dial either my goverment spending down, or dial the research down. It's kind of funny. Lets say I dial research to zero. I suddenly have ALOT of money. I hit the slid

Geez .... while we're on the subject of StarWars and describing useless trivia, I stumbled across this on theforce.net. Someone actually went through the trouble to figure out how much power the Death Star's superlaser had. After what looks like a PHd thesis, the came up with the Death Star's core generating at least 2x10^27 Watts of energy with the super laser kicking out 1.2x10^39 Joules of energy. Someone had way too much time on their hands coming up with that

I have to disagree, if the most important point to keeping a metaverse is to improve AI, then why keep score for all players to see. Anytime you broadcast a highscore list, you're going to have players competing to get to the top. I personally probably won't ever see the top, but I love the idea that I'm fighting to get into the top 100, just to say "hey I'm reasonably decent at this game" I love being able to measure myself against the other players. But so long as you'r

If it helps, the symptoms of what is happening are the following: 1. The turn button shows the clock icon 2. The application shows as "not responding" on the task manager 3. The application is taking 100% of CPU time 4. Very occasionally the memory amount changes, but not by any great deal Hope these help

Its interesting because each of my games are so different. Drengins are frequently the top guys, but I think at some point or another I've played games where each of the major races were the dominant races. Although in my games the only odd man out seems to be the Yor. SeanB

I was getting ready to do a swap with the Yor, and was looking at their ships. One of the ships that came up in their list was a flagship!! So are flagships really in? If so, how do you go about getting one, and what effect do they have? SeanB

"If you're not playing the metaverse, you're not playing Galciv." Frogboy, your statement makes very little sense to me. I thought one of the big features of Galciv was that 1) You can submit your scores to the metaverse to compete with other players, give your empire prestige, etc 2) That the metaverse submissions can be used to further drive the AI It seems funny to me that these two features are what drove sales for Galciv, but you're saying that if you're playing the meta

If you talk to an alien civ, give away all your planets, and then do a next turn after they accept your planets, the game will lock up. I've reproduced this behavior several times on my system. All I was doing was trying to resign by giving away all my planets. (I was pretty much doomed anyway). My only hope would've been for the Altarians to hit Final Frontier and I somehow luck out and get it by taking a planet. SeanB

Some relatively easy answers.... 1. A downloadable manual is being worked on. Frogboy will let us know when the final deal is ready. 2. Some things that influence your production is population, sliders, social projects on planet, racial picks, and technology. 3. I dont know how you can influence the military production for that one planet only short of being the necessary projects that will boost military for that planet. In a sense, the production sliders are more

It's not so much that. Lets say I write an AI in this game. I want it to goto planet X which is 12 sectors away as the crow flies, but lets say there's a wormhole about 1 sector south that will take me there. You could write the pathfinding AI to search for the quickest way to the planet (which isn't necessarily a straight line). The pathfinder would then go through its thing. The only problem I see is that it might slow the game down a bit. Depends alot on how you handle the pathfinding,
