I have been running Vista as my only operating system for roughly a year now and I have had little or no problems that weren't either because of drivers not ready yet, (no longer an issue for anything I use)or applications that need upgrading (also almost never an issue any more). Anytime a new versiono f an operating system comes out there are always issues with compatibility here and there. If every sinlge Billy-Joe-Bob third party chunk of code worked there wouldn't be any significa

If your graphics score is that low with that video card the first thing I would do is make sure you have the absolute latest Vista driver from ATI. I have a reasonably fast Nvidia card and the MS driver scores a 1.5 or so, but when I installed the Nvidia driver it went up to 4.6 for desktop and 4.7 for gaming. The MS drivers for a lot of cards are absolute cr4p.
Just a quick question: Up on Betanews/Fileforum there is a download posted very recently for WB 5.51.097. However when I run SDC this version is not listed and 5.51.025 is the newest pre-release version. Just for curiosity's sake anyone know the scoop on this "discrepency"?
My biggest discontent with Vista's Explorer is the lack of customizable toolbar. If there were someway to restore the toolbar without having to lose the rest of the new UI I would be a very happy user indeed. That's the single most painful change in Vista for me.
That wall is wonderful...where did you get it?
I guess I've been at this for a very long time. Member Since Mar 24, 2001 User Number 64 Bytes Downloaded 7219 mb
Neil Yes, flip3d works fine and the transparency of wb skins also work. Here's my WB sys info: Your computer has a Windows Experience Index base score of 4.6 Your Windows Graphics Experience score is 4.6 WindowBlinds version : WindowBlinds 5 (5.50 (build 102 x86 - Vista Edition)) WindowBlinds is installed correctly on this PC WindowBlinds appears to be activated on this PC (Generic PnP Monitor) 1 is attached to NVIDIA GeFo
I went ahead and installed 158.18 and the problem stayed the same. So I am of the opinion that the nVidia driver version is not the issue. Though I am more surprised that it isn't then I would have been had it proven to be the problem.
I rolled the driver all the way back to 9746, which is the last WHQL driver from the manufacturer (HP) and the opaque gray sidebar did not go away. If I select Aero the sidebar is transparent and styler's changes take effect. But as soon as I apply a WB skin it goes back to gray.
I have discovered an annopying issue that occurs whenever I try to run Vista Sidebar. If I have any WB skin loaded, except for the default Windows Aero, the Sidebar is gray. I installed Sidebar Styler to see if it would make a difference and alas no change. This doesn't seem to be skin dependent in that only Aero stops the problem. I'm running WB 5.5 latest build, newest Sidebar Styler, vista Ultimate, and Nvidia driver is 165.01.
I use a left vertical taskbar and have had this problem off and one for years. On Win2k, XP and Vista. Some builds of WB are better than others, and some applications are more or less likely to have the problem. My guess is that there is more than one way for an application to test for "available" screen size and location and that one way works and the other is less reliable. It wouldn't surprise me at all that the one that causes more prolems is an older one left over from earlier vers
Any relation to Balthazar Noobish the inventor of the steam powered whoopy cushion?
I'm not dead yet. I'm getting better. 48 going on 18!
Great gesture! I have been a member of ODNT for 7 years, but have never been able to afford both the ODNT and WinCustomize subscriptions. I would love to be considered for this offer. And for what it is worth, Congrats to whomever is selected.
Well. I set Aero and rebooted. It applied fine so I selected a Dream and it applied fine. Then I selected a WB and it applied fine without rebooting. I did reboot after installing the Nero update and the problem did not manifest immediately after the install so I don't think that was the cause. Thoughts?
No! Wait. I did update Nero 7.7 to 7.8! Andf if I remember it changes the associations of MPGs to itself. I wonder if that is it, and if so how to fix it without removing Nero since I use it for digitizing my vinyl.
My Deskscapes/Dreamscapes requires Aero has returned. It was working fine today. I shut down to come home from work, booted back up and the error is back. I switched to Aero and it was not transparent. I rebooted and it was once again transparent and I switched back to a WB and then tried to load a Dream and got the error again. I guess I will now reset to Aero, reboot, apply Dream and see fi that works. Then reboot and try to apply a WB. This time there were no updates or installs perf
The latest Acronis True Image works with Vista and is very good software. http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/ You might also want to take a look at Casper. Another good imaging and backup solution. http://www.fssdev.com/products/casper/default.aspx?adc=google
I hate the fact that the Vista explorer no longer has toolbars, much less customizable toolbars like XP. Of all the changes in Vista this is the one I find the most consistently annoying. I'll have to give this a try and see if it fills that gap sufficiently. I assume it will more than do so. Thanks
It looks like it is now working I did have to reboot with everything enabled to get it back to running but for now I am ok. Neil, as always thanks for your help.
I did a system restore point from this morning and it seems to have brought back the flip3d with Aero loaded, but once I load WB I lose the flip3d again.
My directx log file shows an install or update of Directx 9 components at about 7 PM Sunday 3/11. I would think however that the flip3d would us DX10/presentation foundation functions.
It is not working. Though it was just a couple of days ago.

Every time I try to load either a Dream or Desk sceen/scape I get an error saying that they are only compatible with Aero. This was all working sort of, but I recently removed and re-installed vbecause I can only run an animated background for a few minutes before explorer crashes. While trying to figure out what was going on I discovered the install list showed two versions of the Microsoft engine one with a KB number and one from before the "official" preview was released. I remove ev
