To RayChua
But you may want to give Galcivers a chance to practice a bit on the new maso before launching your challenge.
I suggest that most participants will play their games in 7-8 June. So they'll have a week to practice. Also, we can start another one, perhaps on Intelligent, after this one. To Snuis
Sure, of course i'll try it. Without much hope of beating the AI though
I too :) But still it will be FUN! So it's worth to try

Anyone may play in this http://apolyton.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=87766 competition. I don't expect a big number of winners, so even lose will be good. And it's more fun than any standart game anyway. I invite you to take part in competition. Players who able to win in 1.03 or 1.04 on Crippling or Masochistic difficulty: -=YIN=-, Airwreck, Aloak, Andan, Arliman, Army No. Va., Army of Darkness, Babcom280, Bad_Karma, Becephalus, Bert Bellomo, BuzuBuzu, Callipygea,
To me, the combat system is the least developed aspect of this game.
Then play StarCraft:BroodWar.;) IMHO it's good enough for a TBS. Overwise, battles took too much time. ~SDC~
Para 3 - Waste kicks in at PQx2, and gets more severe at PQx4, but this is a sliding scale thing - ie. get .95bc instead of 1bc. Massive scale of planets and BC mean economy bonuses are more of a mid-late game thing. (BTW, no one knows if waste applies before or after the application of the economy bonuses...)
I know. After economy bonuses.
morale----> more pop max? also 60@ +20%= 72% or 80%
Hm. You mean 60 Empire morale bonus and 20% buil
4) So another thought - why comp not buys wonders/trade goods, but buys buildings for a same cost as wonders? Seems not that efficient, isn't it? So comps can easily get all Wonders/Trade Goods. Exchange trade goods for techs please.

6) Why comp just waits something? Demanding tribute? It can just build several fleets (with transports of course). Then he got some planets, it can demand tribute for a peace treaty. Rinse wash repeat several turns later.
I

Rush 2 Incredible AI. Then rush minors. Then only 3 genius left with much less number of planets. That's for 'Rare' planets. ~SDC~

Ok another suggestion. N=NumberOFGames-1 Score[i]- array with scores sorted in descending order C=Min(4,N) //so no less then 5 best games will be counted D=Max(9,N) // so no more than 10 best games will be counted PlayerScore=0; Sum=0; for (i=0;i(less or equal)D;i++) { Sum=Sum+Score[i]; if (i(equal or more)C) { PlayerScore=Max(PlayerScore;Sum/Sqrt(i)); } } ~SDC~
I'm not sure that 20% taxes is best on tiny. Your trade route income is partially dependent on the tax revenue on the system that's trading. You really should make sure you're at the 4xPQ taxes cap in your trading system.
How much? I don't tested it. (I thought that trade not dependant on 'real' taxes, just on maximum taxes). P.S. It's possible to live on Gigantic/Abudant with 0% taxes. ~SDC~ [Message Edited]

(This is about GOTM, not about 1st Masochistic challenge) Well it's supposed to be a month challenge. But i see no activity here. And patch 1.04 already out (competition was under 1.03). So i think it's time to end competition. I have some free time in saturday/sunday, so wait for results. ~SDC~ [Message Edited]
My main dislike for this kind of competition is that instead of playing to win the game one have to play to maximize the score (whatever method is used to calculate it). Therefore I was suggesting to share difficult games, where the victory is not guaranteed by itself and one has to put efforts just to win somehow.
Ok. Your suggestions about masochisitic challenge? Starting conditions etc. ~SDC~
I did set government spending to zero and that didn't work. I did sell off most ships, and that washn't enough.
I think we can agree that we would rather see resources being spent to improve the tactical AI than in combatting cheese because unlike the AI, we get the power to choose.
That's exactly that i'm talking about. Then AI will be improved, this will not be a cheese. Then AI bonuses may be reduced, and it will be a normal kind of a game istead of cheese.
Are you still working on your Maso GOTM? Though I don't think you are going to get many participants now wi

Ok. Developers are clearly using masochistic difficulty to find cheese. I think that cheese tactics is any tactics that's always efficient no matter that - so you don't have strategic choices. Another cheese is using tactics that AI can't use (or use effectively) - that's singleplayer only cheese. If you can win vs. comp that has a BIG bonuses and not a bad economy, really it means that comp is falling to some kind of abovementioned cheese tactics (one or more). So if devs finally get AI tha
