Ok how about random event 'Black Spathi Squadron'? This will be cool! Idea! Maybe i'll make a file with all stars like in SC2. ~SDC~
Ellestar
Yes you are right. ~SDC~
-of your entire empire- Also, don't set research slider to a fixed amount (more important on larger galaxies) - you'll lose any excess reseach. (say, tech cost 1000, you have 300 research points/turn -> research in 4 turns, you'll lose 300*4=1200-1000=200 research points) ~SDC~
Try to have morale on all planets equal to 100 at the start - you'll get double pop growth with it. Then you have just several systems, this is even more important because you'll get very low additional income from taxes (compared to your 1000 starting bc), but you'll lose a good % of your possible population. Say, morale 100 instead of 54-99 in first 3 turns - you'll get (1,06/1,03)^3=1.0899 or 9% of population of our entire empire till late midgame. This is a HUGE difference for just
I can imagine it like it was yesterday. Say, minerals table: 1 (common elements),2(iodine, bromine),3(common metals),4(?),5(noble gazes),6(gold, silver etc.),8 (radioactives),25 (rare elements - Tzo crystals) if i rememer correctly. Remember Syria? Syreen commander, Betelgeise star system. Rumors about Black Spathi Squadron? Shofixity Maidens? Admiral Zex is awesome! (Even more then it's got the beast). Secret Spathy 'password' (forget correct spelling of that word - som

Well if everyone agrees that current metaverse isn't that bad, let's start 1st Masochistic challenge. I started a tread on this forum http://www.galciv.com/browser/msgboard.asp?id=61242&BoardID=GF Any suggestions about the starting conditions? ~SDC~
I started a tread here at this forum http://www.galciv.com/browser/msgboard.asp?BoardID=GF&id=0&cmd=showall ~SDC~
Ok i'll start it but i wanted to hear suggestions of other players. ~SDC~
GalCiv is avesome of course. From TBS i like 1) MoM - most fun IMHO 2) SMAC - heavily math-driven one 3) MoO - just slightly less fun than MoM, but GNN :) "Oh well another millenium serving under ruthless tyrant." (if i remember correctly) My overall rating is 1) Star Control 2 2) Elite (Spectrum, not PC version) 3) StarCraft - FASTCLICK!!! I can bet that my Fastclick is one of the best on this forum. (Bear in mind that average player age is 33 this is
To dirkdirk. I'm from Russian Federation and my engish isn't that good to write a story. ~SDC~
My thoughts: 1) AI must be more random (and it's must be saved in a savegame so no save-loading will help). Say, some AI (not specified, so no weird things like breaking alliances etc.) declares war w/o any treats (to a random race, not just to a player). 2) Make conquests easier. 3) Gigantic galaxies are unbalanced. Suggestion - give penalty to metaverse score for gigantic(and maybe huge too). ~SDC~
Standart game score = 'End of Turn' competition. That's the problem. But already suggested scores aren't that bad. http://apolyton.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=86110 //If we get loads of players that's not a problem, but if there's not too many then we may have to start limiting what we'll accept as winning conditions.// Why? This is intended just for fun. It's good to get some score, but it's more interesting just to play and see how others playing. ~SDC~
I heared that Tech gives 2x score, but i want military win anyway. ~SDC~
To Starvald By the way, thanks for any future help, but there is not much to do for now IMHO. But if you have some ideas, anything is welcome. ~SDC~
I think we need a masochistic challenge. I want to know who is the best player for now in GalCiv. Perhaps Fastest Win competition is best one. (I'll take part in second part of the competition - slowest lose). Suggested starting condidtions: Large or Huge (IMHO Large) Scattered Habitable planets: Abudant (?) 5 Incredible AI, standart alignments Starting picks: +2 speed is too good, maybe +1 speed? Also, maybe AI Tech win must be counted as a lose to

More likely than not that i'll lose masochistic challenge, but i'm interesting who'll win. ~SDC~
//The main reason for my position is that any other scoring usually makes one path better than another thus making everybody who wants to score high follow the certain path ignoring much of the depth of the game. To eliminate this problem and allow the player to chooce any path he wishes it is necessary to remove dependency of score from the any parameters at the end of the game.// This is wrong because then will be most efficient to play games that will took least real time. /

//how do i start getting the frequent updates?// Choose software tab, and then GalCiv. Click install. Note: install StarDock, then uninstall and install GalCiv again, or (AFAIK) you'll start to download all 86 Mb instead of 1-2Mb patch. //second. completely noob. i played a three hour, gigantic map game and was in close second place by the time i quit. thing was, i wasn't doing anything except build colony ships, colonize and set on Republic (my governor)for new planets// <
+70% PopGrowth is good. I'm playing with it now. //thing I figured out was that you can trade those crappy class-14 and 13 star systems on your home turf // They'll disband it on next turn in 1.03 patch, and you'll get nothing for them anyways. ~SDC~
