john oneill is a longtime activist/occasional journalist who once claimed to have been on kerry's boat I think O'Neill took over the command of the boat Kerry had commanded after Kerry left. What are the lies in the Swiftvets ad?

Carnegie paid to have the libraries built, but the yearly maintenance on the libraries was paid through taxes. If there was really tremendous incentive to do something like what Carnegie did, more people would have done it. The truth is, you didn't need to be well-read to work in a steel mill, which is how Carnegie made his fortune.

You guys can rest easy regarding our elections, there will be European observers to monitor our elections. Link The stricly legal question to what "right" we had to go into Iraq was UN resolution 678. Who said it was our duty to ch

Looks like the job situation in Canada is worse than the US. Africa is not exactly a bastion of political stability either. My guess it that jobs will move to Central/South America. Note that there are new trade agreements on the table for those regions.

George Bush innovates new words all the time. I think if we wanted to offer the same quality of medical care as we did 40 years ago it would be relatively easy. If you institute a price ceiling you get a shortage.

Anyone who condemns Swiftvets is a hypocrite unless they have equal condemnation for moveon.org and other similar left-wing groups. I think I have a better explanation for the so-called "disconnect" in the polls: they are asking different things. Asking about the country at large is a much broader scope than asking about the President specifically. Realistically, the President doesn't control everything. For instance, some people think that th

I think a major part of the problem is that there is too much "general welfare" spending at the federal level. Most federal spending isn't for roads, schools, police, or the military. The majority of the federal budget is used to pay someone's living expenses or medical bills. The federal government can borrow money perpetually, and this continous borrowing to pay for huge "general welfare" programs has created our enormous national debt. </fo

Do you think the current crisis in Sudan, where Arab militias are slaughtering Africans, has anything to do with Palestine? The US restrictions on trade with North Korea have been around long before President Bush. My understanding is that the 1995 agreement loosened the restrictions as long as North Korea stopped testing missles.

My point was, there haven't been single attacks conducted by criminal organizations that killed 3k people on the same day. The difference between the Nazis and Al Qaeda is that the Nazis could be held accountable for their actions and removed from power in ways Al Qaeda cannot. In England the beat cops carry no

I never knew Muggaz supported "America First" I don't agree with the concept of an "American empire" (I have not heard such a thing advocated by neocons) and my support for unilateral action and pre-emptive attacks is certainly conditional, but other than that I do agree with the list.

The point about sovereignty is that if you say, "The government owns X because the government has the ultimate authority regarding X", it is not possible to own anything if you are under the authority of the government. There is a big gap between what is theoretically possible and what is likely to actually happen. Theoretically, I'm sure the government could declare grass an endangered plant and confiscate all our homes. I don't expect that

So you think that Kerry supported an invasion of Iraq, and that he thinks it would have been the right thing to do even though Saddam didn't have WMD stockpiles? You can put in all the caveats you want about how Kerry would have managed an invasion differently, but the core question is whether Kerry supports the idea of an invasion. There is certainly plenty of room to say "Bush had the right idea but the wrong plan". Kerry has criticized Bush's handli

The fact that we are engaging in talks with North Korea refutes the myth that Bush is not doing anything about it. The talks have not been completely successful. That is why more talks have been scheduled for September. Diplomacy is a long and difficult process. I don't know if it will be successful or not, but I think we should try before we use military action. I would disagree that demanding a complete, verifiable, and irrevers

We weren't spendng a great deal of money preventing airplane hijackings prior to 9/11. The government did not consider the hijacking of domestic flights or the use of commerical airliners as suicide weapons to be serious threats. One of the main reasons for the Dept of Homeland Security is to identify such threats and prevent them. Are you saying that we should not try to anticipate terrorist attacks? It's easy to be an armchair quart

Property tax IS rent to the federal government I'm pretty sure that the federal government does not collect property taxes. State and local governments do. The US has had a national bank/banking system long before Marxism.

Talking about "authority" is hiding from the issue. The question is not whether the President should have had the "authority" to go to war. The question is whether the President, once he possessed the authority, should have gone to war. Kerry has not given a straightforward answer to that question.
