Looks like we've got Mayito7777, Durron, and Kryo nominated so far. Master Yoda will post the official ballot come election time next week, and all nominations are accepted. Hopefully we will have enough to create some competition. Now, no lightsaber duels to prove who's most worthy ;) ~SDC~

I haven't always posted much on these forums, but after reading what's happened in the last few days, I've felt compelled to say something. Obi-Wan: I'm very sorry that you were discouraged enough by people going in and out of our empire to push us up in the rankings or for other reasons. I hope given time, you will decide to come back and be a part of the group you helped a great deal to create. Anyone who changes empires to mess with rankings hurts the hard work that has go

I've been playing tiny/rare/maso and its not that bad. If you've got 2 systems in your sector to their 1, then it's not hard to keep up with tech and military. Trading tech for tech is a must, and I've found the AI will trade you big stuff like Battleship/Dreadnaught if you've got some good techs they don't normally have. Lets say you research only Communications tech at the beginning then they will be asking for Sensors, Adv Dipo, Nano-Freq... One thing I have noticed is if you trade a tech

Thanks Obi-Wan for the picture. Too bad R2 doesn't have any arms. It makes it kind of hard to swing a saber. He probably should stick to the little "zapper" or maybe have a blaster built in. But I'm not really a slice my enemies in half kind of Jedi anyways. I spend my time spreading my culture and influence onto others to do my bidding. Always in the name of good. I swear ;) ~SDC~

Thanks for the congrats. I hadn't realized myself that I had reached the Chosen One rank ;) I probably should have a mugshot on the page considering I'm on the Council. Obi-Wan could you use R2-D2 as my picture? The idea of that cute little guy swinging a lightsaber around just makes me want to laugh LOL My lightsaber is cool the way it is. Thanks Obi-Wan for all the work you've put into such a great website. ~SDC~
when suddenly the graphs show a HUGE rise in the Yor's manufacturing and military might.
I'm pretty sure that those graphs are not a representation of "might" per say. I was under the impression that those graphs are related to spending levels. So if you do 100% Research then you should see your research go up, and if you stop researching then it drops. This would explain why your technology, economy, military, etc goes up and down alot even if you didn't fall behind i

I usually keep my morale at 100% to get the biggest pop growth. Building the non-expensive morale social buildings is usually good enough... Entertainment network, stadium, teleporters... One thing thats cool in the xpack is that you can stack more than 16 ships in a square, so you can invade with more than 80000 pop. This way you can use your 30 transports (hopefully) in one invasion, instead of using an invasion tactic to overcome a system with lots of occupied planets. ~SDC~

I think we should have senate readjustment whether its by vote or Master Yoda's decision. I feel the most active members in the empire should be in the senate, and I would give up my spot for someone more involved. But anyways... I want to talk some strategy :) I play all my games the same way, and I need to change it up a bit. My strategy like in most games is to build/strengthen up before conquering. I don't do anything until I'm the dominant one. So I stay friends with everyone

Greetings Berserk! I've just caught up with the forums since school has been keeping me away. Most of our forum contributing members have had real life intervene with their GalCiv, but hopefully new members like yourself will help keep the activity level up. You can recruit all you want but don't force (haha... no pun intended LOL ) anyone to join. Maybe we can start some strategy talk in here. I'm kind of getting to the point of playing all my games the same way since it works for

I got an anomalous score and I didn't do anything to cause it as far as I could tell. I tried to resubmit it but it didn't fix it. I sent an email to [email protected] and they looked at my save game and couldn't find a problem with it. They deleted my anomalous score, and when I submitted the game again, it worked fine. I recommend anyone with an anomalous score to do this, but if they tell you the cause of the anomalous then I wouldn't keep sending them anomalous scores with the same pr

The AI's knowing where the habitable planets and resources are doesn't really help them much. I mean how often do you reload a game because you weren't happy with a starting position or you didn't get enough planets in the colony rush. Now that's cheating ;) Typically for me, I'll save the game at the first turn, and if I screwed up the colony rush then I'll reload it and use my previous knowledge of where the yellow stars are at. Reloading in my opinion is the biggest "cheat" of all, and I

Let's see... what to say about me... I'm working on my master's in Computer Engineering in Dallas, and I've been employed as a Software QA Engineer for the last two years but that ends next week (:( The job market in Dallas is saturated. Can't find a Digital Design or a software development entry level position. I keep saying to myself "One of these days..." but I probably should change it to "One of these years..." ;) ~SDC~

Will this scoring change be retroactively changed for previous submitted games or will it be only for new submits with 1.092? If not then it would give a bonus to people who keep their old save games and then could resubmit games for more points. But either way, I'm for the change since I'm playing more on smaller maps now, and I didn't see a very big point difference between different difficulty levels that should reflect the differences in playing difficultly.

I've been avoiding the forums and playing GalCiv lately because of all of the negative talk of "cheese" strategies or they way Stardock has handled the whole situation. This has gotten out of hand and there's no point to going on and on about it. People have different ways to play that some may consider "cheese" while others consider them just fine. I think invading every AI planet in one turn before they have a chance to react or trading a flipped planet and waiting for it to flip ba
Selling tech for money sounds like good strategy to me when you can get it. I have played painful before and you don't get very much cash for trading tech with majors. I doubt if you racked up tons of money throughout the entire game to feed your tech race and I bet you had to trade with the minors a bit for some cash. To me, this is just surviving on painful. If you got an anomalous for this, you might try resubmitting. Sometimes the internet connection fails and you have to submit twice
The AI should be "smarter" when it's intelligence is set to dumb? That's kind of the point of "beginner". The AI plays dumb so that people...i.e. beginners.. can get the ropes of the game.If this strategy was working at higher levels then there'd be a point, but it doesn't.This is a text book case of a small minority advocating changes in the game that would harm the majority. Many beginners feel the game is too hard as is.
I was able to get an anomalous score on a small P

I could of sworn it brings the cost down. Like when you're first given the chance to research Dreadnaughts it may take 40 turns. If you research everything in the order of shortest turns to finish, then by the time you get to Dreadnaughts it will take like 4 turns to finish. That's what happened in that game. ~SDC~

I got an anomalous in the game I tried playing with this strategy. I had tons of money at times but ended the game with almost zero. I emailed Frogboy, and he mentioned that they think it's related to the lower tech cost in beta 3. ~SDC~

Decided to bump this up... Is anyone seeing more anomalous games with beta3 and you didn't mod the game? Frogboy replied to my email saying that he thinks the lowering of the tech costs might be causing this. I played that game sorta following EBZ's GCCG. I researched myself every tech and only traded tech for cash. This meant I was always at 100% with a ton of research. Maybe it thought I cheated by getting some of the later techs for real cheap since each tech you research lowers

Has anyone else gotten an anomalous game without using mods? I got one this morning and the game wasn't much different than my last game which was fine. I've been using the beta 3 without any problems. Here's the only things that I think could have caused it. 1. I tried out the Star Wars mod, but I uninstalled it before I started this game and after the last game I submitted successfully. I still see the remnants of the Star Wars logo in the Main Menu for some reason, but the mod o

It would be great if it could be multiplayer, but GalCiv wasn't written to handle it. The effect of a turn based multiplayer would not translate well at all. When you move during your turn, it's an immediate action. Think of all the mean things you do to the AI that could happen to you. During someone else's turn you would watch your supposed friend attack with all of their ships and wipe out your fleet before you can do anything about it. Or the constant bringing up a diplomacy screen with

I ran GalCiv on a 400 Mhz K6-2 with 128MB of RAM and it was fine in Win98. If I played Gigantic or Large, then it would get really slow before I could finish so that's the only problem. I've upgraded to 1.5 Ghz and 512 MB of RAM and it runs great now :) You will be fine if you don't mind playing on Medium and smaller maps. Also you can disable the music or the movies if they give you trouble. I haven't tried to demo, but I think it runs the same as the retail but without the multimedia. If

I don't think your score goes down if you keep hitting turn at the end. They just mean that you'll get less additional points if you keep pressing turn. For example if you win a game for 10k points, and then you reload the EndGameSave and then add 20 more turns on before winning you may get 100 points added. It should stay around the same score unless you build ships/wonders/improvements to boost your score.

One thing that I find odd about giving influence points to the AI is that I give them all of them and it pretty much has the same affect as 1 point. They both will move up relations, but 1 point shouldn't change the relations the same amount as 1000 points.

In the long huge/gigantic games I've played, by the time I win there were a bunch of the random events; enough to change your alignment all the way around. In one game I was chaotic good after the colony race and stayed that way to keep my goody-goody allies. After a while I started picking all of the evil events and then I was Pure Evil at the end. I think this is bad because of the morality bonuses that affect your score. For example if you and everyone else is evil for the first h
