Get Stelar Carthography fast, then take every 15+ planet you can get (AIs wont take 14's and below so you can take your time for those, if you want them at all). After theres nothing more to colonize, start building your planets up and, well, see how it goes from there :) Just remember, each planet you colonize in the first few turns is a planet you won't have to take by force later.

Oh, I was lazy and used the windows calculator and typed 422 instead of 42.
Actually, the name was supposed to read "101010" (or "00101010" if you want) - if you "decoded" it you'll understand why :)
One bar for every five games ?
Since youre asking for another newbie question - whats the little bar between your "Commander" icon and your "posted via SDC" icon ? It doesn't have a description.
You can also doubleclick the little ship icon in the planet view, and with the latest update, I hear, you have the option to autolaunch ships.
You could always click the "launch" button in the planet screen where you built the ship :)
How does "United Earth" become the abreviation "USS" ? :p As for the Yor, a better name for the Ambassordor would be Ambassador 110100110 :)
It is a latin word, means "good" in english. And "bonuses" is just an americanized bastardization :)
I would like the UPC to meet on important events, for example, when a race declares a war, so the other races could vote for example on trade embargos against the agressors, or combined help for the attacked.
...so, most starbase boni stack (all but defense, from what I've read) - what about trade route boni ? Could I build 20 starbases in a sector (or 20 by putting one per sector over the whole traderoute) and increase my traderoutes income by 1000000000% ?
Alignment research seems to be broken - I *KNOW* that I've researched "Master Race", but I also *KNOW* that I never picked a bad choice even once (because at that point I didn't know how the alignment system worked and feared dire consequences from picking C). I'll try to find the safegame of that. Likewise, I remember getting three or four of the "good" technologies without ever having seen the "good" skin (saw that in my last game for the first time, two turns before losing :p).
Yes, very please. In my first game, I won by accident via research, it pissed me off alot then that I couldn't use my new superiour knowledge to crush those tiny peon races! :)
Ignore my last post, it pretty much only replied to the first line of the first post :) I've never before heard of GalCiv, and played it only one weekend, and I already found serious mistakes in the review in nearly every paragraph. So in two days testing a game, without even reading the manual, I learned more about it then the guy who wrote the review. That's pretty sad. I can easily see why the programmers (frogboy is one of the galciv programmers, right ?) would be enraged, or at lea
Thanks, I already looked around some more, and found out that I can download the patch as a regular file once I have the game & my serial, so at least technically, it won't be an issue.
Well, the AI *DOES* cheat, so whats the fuss about ? It even says so in the manual if I recall correctly.
As for the last one - does that mean stars that are grey on the overmap (with stelar carthography) might still contain 15+ planets ?
Not to state the obvious but - have you researched it ? :)
I haven't played much yet, but starbases seem nearly useless in giant galaxies, because theres simply too much sectors to cover if you have even a remotely decent empire. Perhaps increase the sector size for giant maps a bit ? Also, some more "racial" settings in the start (although the bonuspack might add some of those): bonus not only to research, but also to production, bonus to planet quality (i.e. you add one point here and you see a 14 planet as "white" and it gets treated as a 15
...I only played at a friends place, so I didn't waste my time reading his manual (although I read the one on this page this morning, is it the same ?), so forgive me if some of my questions are answered there. a) After a while of playing, I had some planets that finished all they social projects, and built "nothing". I couldn't take the social slider down, because I had other planets still busy building things. Is there any way not to have those planets "idle" and waste ressources whil
I don't have GalCiv myself yet, but played it all weekend at my friends place. Now I want to buy it as well, but have some questions, concerning the internet side of the game: a) I would want to install it on more then one PC (due to my work, I live at my parents place at weekends, and in the city I work in over the week). Would that be allowed, and more importantly, would there be any trouble updating and using the metaverse from two different PCs ? Obviously not at the same time of co
