Having an higher Attack also helps a lot when defending since that way they do more damage, when it's their turn.
AILST
They have to be at war with everyone to not surrender. In my last game I could take out every single Drengin Planet without them surrendering. That was obviously because they did not like any of the other guys.
So far I tried Tiny/Rare 1x, Medium/Common 2x, Huge/Common 1x and Gigantic/Common 1x. I was blown away on tiny. On medium I won once but it was hard. The other game was a loss. On Huge I had a relatively easy win. On Gigantic I did not stand a Chance. So hard to say is the hardest... At the moment I am playing Gigantic/Rare but I did not meet any of the Aliens yet and so can not tell if it's hard or not. However, I feel that for the setting
I also won a game without a powerful military. Compared to the Altarians and the Torians I was lacking in almost every category! I won by Alliance win. What I had to do for it was beeing nice, not powerful. However, in another Game where I won by Alliance-Victory I noticed that beeing powerful helps a lot to get them Close... Howeer, I don't think, that it shall be possible to win without military. The AI shall try to win and to do so, it should be forced to exploit the weeknes
When in one turn the Altarians offered Peace to me and I did not see the reson why. And then in the Next turn they demanded a lot of money to maintan peace... Or the Arceans also making peace with me just to conquer an undefended planet in the next turn which I otherwise would have defended.
For what do I have the 1000 BC at the start? I use these up while letting my Taxes at roundabout 50% and slowly lower it to 39. I've tried the other way aswell but just to find me beeing way behin in Population...
Keeping peace with everybody is certainly the best way to protect your trade-routes... ;)
Try to have at least as many Systems as the biggest of them has. Keep the Tax-Ratio low enough that your pop grows as fast as theirs (usually 30-40%). Get "Trade" as fast as possible and send Freighters to your friends or the minors. That's the most important thing, otherwise you could forget it. Beeing good also helps to keep peace at least with the other good guys. Try to get tradegoods, they sell good and help you keep up in research. Trade techs, even if you give m
You have to be a Betatester to have 1.04 which is still in the Beta stadium but will be made public somewhen next week.
Just wanted to mention that the +1 Range only is +1 in the smaller galaxies. In a gigantic one it's 3 Squares more! That's often enough to expand from one cluster to another without the need of building a refuling base inbetween. I tried that Tiny/Rare setup now for fun. The Yor had a 2nd planet in their system and seemed to outclass the others. However, the Drengin did increadibly well and bombed my planet defenseless with one of their first Battleships, so that the
Ach übrigens, falls es jemanden interessiert, ein deutsches Galciv-Forum gibt es hier: http://www.crazy-board.net/board.php?boardid=339&sid=2e21677ef74081b02ca3f09534e94e98
Why breaking it? Try getting a Quadalliance! That's what I did in my last game... You can cancel the Traderoutes with the Altarians and make new ones with the Torians to get them close. Do the same thing with the Arceans when ready...
One thing I really like in the ship list is the "Fly here" Button, where you easiely can change destinations of all ships on the move to somewhere they are not needed.
@LDICesare: Well, I don't think many players like playing the game in the style you do. Not having any planet to colonize seems a bit ... ridiculous for a game like galciv. @Staffa: I think I got your point... So it's not the +1 Range ability that makes the AI not beeing able to colonize that fast, it's its inability of using that trick...
Is it really that useless, when the only colonizeable system is out of your range and with +1 range and +2 speed you could get it while without that the Torians will be there first? I don't think so! +Range can be quite helpfull on all mapsizes!
In my current game I have used the +2 Speed and the +1 Range-Pick. That allowed me to easily outexpand the AI-Civs even without a particularly good startingpostition. For the +2 Speed-Pick I had to pay nothing less than 8 Points, which I think is OK. But a cost of only 2 points for the +1 RangPick really seems to cheap for it! I think it should cost 4 or even 5 points since the difference in expanding-speed is increadible. In my current game I'd only have like 15
Ich hab' es auch von Okaysoft.de. Aber man muss mindestens 18 sein um es dort bestellen zu können, weil es ein Importspiel ist und diese nach dem neuen Jugendschutzgesetzt alle erst ab 18 sind.
Mybe you do the same mistake I did in my 1st game and colonized planets with less than a PQ of 15... I say: Don't! That ruins you, it's to expensive to live on em! I usually don't waste my Traderoutes on minors, since the benefit of them liking me is much less valuable than the benefit of someone else liking me! [Message Edited]
My 1st game on Beginner was my longest aswell... But not much longer than something like till 2215....
I never used the Ctrl+N feature... I was a bit disappointed, that I won my first Intelligent game. But really I cannot see, how this is achieveable everytime for some people without ctrl+n! I now started my first game on a gigantic map (I always played on a medium or smaller map so far) and I was in a corner with only 5 systems with habitable planets. I am far back on everything and just got a war declared by the Drengins, I share another cluster with. They are big compared to me but t
I had the same today... The difference is that my game did not crash. I saved the game in the turn where I won. I wanted to load it to submit the score to the metaverse and had that everything empty -> red screen thing too... Seems like a corrupted or inproperly saved savegame! I then loaded the Autosave and it worked... The corrupted Autosave also crashed to desktop when I hit next turn.
While not the worst issue I expierienced, I still hope so...
For me it easily does... Never was such a Civ2 fanatic...
I think this is a known problem... At least I knew it aswell! ;)
I once had it. Then I noticed that I a colonyship moved in a star and it waited for me to select a planet or klick on the space to move it out of the star. But I don't think that's the same thing as #0 meant because it was too fast to find were the mistake was.
