Did you have the ships in a fleet? Ships not in a fleet don't work as well. If you sent all the ships in a fleet, it would work like this: Crv1: At 5 Df 3 Crv2: At 4 Df 3 Crv3: At 6 Df 3 BattleAxe: At 2 Df 6 The corvettes sum their attack powers (i.e. all three attack and the sum of the rolls gives the total attack for "Turn 1," the expected value of the sum in this case being 7.5). Then the BattleAxe rolls for defense, an average of three. So you do 3.5 da

-- From #74, PontiusBruinPilot My personal opinion is that the smaller galaxies are entirely different games from the larger ones. -- I'll agree to that 100%, though I don't (yet) know from experience. I also agree that there should be a way to sort players based on galaxy size, etc. -- From #70, Paguma I'm not sure of your point. You do get points based on difficulty as well size. -- No, I understand that. All I'm saying is that under no circumstanc
Try not to make blanket statements like "This game sucks," with so much evidence to the contrary. Rather, consider if there might be something you're missing, or that you just don't like the game. However, with so many people liking it, and the one or two who don't, there must be something redeeming about it. Don't give up so fast.
PontiusBruinPilot: I'm sorry. You misunderstand me. What I'm saying is that one cannot make statements about how good or bad someone else is at the game without first having played on all the difficulty levels that that other person has played at. As you know, Technician had at the time of my posting (and probably at this time too) only played at beginner and simple difficulties on gigantic galaxies. The credibility I was referring to was his statement about playing on small galaxie
I definitely agree with what is being said about the small maps. They are harder (note, I haven't gone above medium yet, but I've won all my games on medium map size handlily while I've lost -a lot- of the smaller map sizes at normal difficulty). Technician, you should really try higher difficulty levels. Until you can win a game on masochistic, you have no room to criticize someone who has for playing on a small map. Remember, your credibility is only as high as your skill. Unless
THat's happened to me too. I was the strongest economy in the game (very early on a small map), and another race asked for peace with me without firing a shot, because I had corvettes and was killing someone else. I demand 707 bc/month for 25 months (they had 707 bc at this point). They, to my shock, agree. What's more, they pay it all. At this point, my economy was four times as strong as theirs and I was only generating 100 bc/turn, so that should have bankrupted them very quickly, yet it
Sweet. I would really appreciate that.
Starfighters = SUX royally. It's really only good for making the AI waste its money.
Perhaps a feature that could be added is the ability to terminate leases and loans in the same manner that trade routes can be terminated. It would save some money in the long run, but you would have to have the cash on hand to pay for most of the rest of the loan (the cash saved would be based on how much had already been paid and the initial interest). I don't know how difficult this would be to add, but it would sure be helpful.
Can anyone say "Copyright Infringement"? ~SDC~
I got that too. It was kinda freaky looking, but it was a powerful system (reminiscent of the ones that the minor civs get to start). ~SDC~
-That- would be cool. OT: I was about to split my sides reading the whale and potted plant scene. That is perhaps the funniest thing I've ever read (aside from anything else in those books). Actually, come to think of it, it's high time I reread them. The juxtaposition of everything the whale says to just the one thought that goes through the plant's head: "Not again," just cracks me up.
Oh, I gotcha. Sorry, Yin.
I think it's been out for a while, actually, hasn't it? I have 1.03A.057
Remember, the +1% is global across a sector, and if you stack starbases, you can get quite a sum of repair bonuses getting pumped out in a given sector, esp. later in the game.
The little number in the bottom left corner above your population is how much cash you have on hand at any given point in time. If it is light yellow, that means you're spending more than you are making. If it is dark yellow, you're making more than you're spending.
One of the other things about small maps. Universalist's luck doesn't help as much. You know how if you have that luck, you're more likely to get yellow stars in your sector and the sectors around you, right? Well, the only problem is, there's normally someone in the sector around you in a small map, so they get your yellow stars. Grrr. That's really got me steamed. The Drengins took all my pretty Luck Stars! >:(
Speaking of testing mods, is there a way to enter a debug mode where you can force a certain event to load?
Don't worry about it, though. The game is a lot more fun with the new mechanics. I don't think the score should be so important that you're willing to play an inferior version for the sake of getting a higher score.
The largest map I've played is medium, and I had a great time doing that (the ownage was incredible). It took a little longer than the smaller maps did, though. I'm a big fan of small and tiny maps, personally.
Hm that's interesting. Perhaps the game resaves all their stats over to the other civs', then looks through your records to make sure it deletes all the data from your ship list, then the AI has to reevaluate the situation based on those ships being added to the minor civ (5 times), adjust spending, etc. accordingly, also change its attitude toward you. Then all the economies might need recalc, so all the planets would need recalc as to how much advancement each of the projects would receive p
Hm be careful before saying that. Plus, you can get a great deal more than 100% economy bonus from social improvements later on in the game. Some improvements give +50% on their own. Take over the planet and see what it says.
I've played a couple of games when I've been about to lose and just not finished it. But when I get owned, I get owned by the Drengin. Oh, except last game. My economy was so out the roof that they wouldn't even attack me (I -like- the Universalist party, it gives you so many yellow stars!). Even though my military was really poor, I just took them over once I got my battle hammers. They walked the plank like nobody's business.

That's why I buy lots of repair tech ASAP! ^_^
