I just had a thought based on what I've observed in real life. I don't know how well it'll work with entrenchment, since I haven't bought it yet, but might still work. Seeing as to how mines in the present restrict civilian movement and cause PR problems, we can have it so after X amount of mines, allegience, trade income (trade ships gotta safely navigate through the mines), or both, suffer in the system (maybe adjacent ones as well) with too many mines. That would all

When I used to play online, I would always fight right till the very, very end (except once or twice when I was having very bad days). I was actually able to turn around about half of them and win (including several in which my losses would be normally game ending). The way I see it, if I'm still alive, I still have a very real chance at getting a come back. I also absolutely love it when my opponent does the same, and get rather annoyed when they don't.

I saw a mention of it in the GalCiv2 forums at about the time of the announcement, and almost dismissed it except for it being published by Stardock. This was back before even the betas were announced, and the old site layout, and only a dozen forum members (including myself, though didn't really post much as it was before beta's announcement).

[quote who="Annatar11" reply="11" id="1914125"] Stardock's current protection of making the consumer want to buy the game, rather then forcing on any level to even run the game, is what works best. Changing this will only break it for many Stardock fans, such as myself. Please do not change this. You misunderstand the point of Frogboy's post. Stardock is not changing how they publish/protect their games. They are instead considering giving other publishers alternatives to

There is no protection that actually works with the exception of making it easier to buy and play purchased software. Stardock, you have mastered this already, changing it will only break it. Publishers and developers who believe otherwise, well, I don't know what they are thinking, but speaking as a life long gamer and game consumer with 20 1/2 extensive (18+ hours per day untill last few months) years gaming, I can tell you without any possible shadow of a doubt that they are wrong. <p

My 200/2 cents: The only copy protection I will tolerate (and this type I consider a given) is having support and patches resricted to actual owners. Stardock does this quite well, and is a far as I'm willing to go with copy protection (and considering the current alternatives, I am quite supportive of them). All the alternate ones do (aside from having absolutely nothing, even token) is cause legitimate gamers like me to not buy games; some even turn to pirating instea

"It's a bird!" "It's a plane!" "It's......... what the heck is it?"

:) Thanks Dragoon. Time was during early betas culture would flip the planets that reaches.... what was it? 10%? I think that is a good thing to bring back, but that was discussed a lot when it was changed, and this thread isn't about it anyway.

EaW was a so-so game. It's space battles were visually great, but always seemed to lack in depth; and I never could get over the tartan/correllian corvettes' ability to cause all nearby fights to spontaneously explode..... but I modded that to sensible levels. Land battles were a real killer though; so much lag! And the galactic map, while OK, had ships auto-repair instantly, which I never cared for. I'll still reinstall it once in a while just for the stunning visual s

Given Stardock's track record of mini-expansion packs in the form of patches for GalCiv2 and the upcomming 1.1, I think I may like the amount of content in these "micro-expansions". However, since this is the first time I've seen SD charge for content of this nature in this matter..... and my past burns from other companies, I think I'd like to see specific details and player reviews before diving in.

Other then that, I love it! That what it already says. Since by the orignal 6, you can't have hidden things installed, you should know what is going to be installed. So if you're clicking on that .exe, it's a given that you want said software installed.[/quot

My experience with Steam: Half-life 2 demo: installed, registered, registered again, registered a 3rd time all the while going WTF do I need steam for a demo? 3 hours later it works and lets me play. Try playing again later, takes forever + a day to log in. Lost all interest after that. I also have some prior experience from way back in Team fortress classic, but don't remember much other then being kinda annoyed. My experience with Stardock: Installed SDC and downloaded GalCiv

AFAIK, only those who are so much more interested in what numbers on a specific screen say then the amount of fun and satisfaction it takes to actually get good stats are the ones who would use this. I personally think this kind of thing is pathetic to exploit. Hmmmm.... there should be a special "achievement" that appears on all accounts that the CD key is bind to that displays whenever the name is shown and is earned by "winning" games in this manner. Oh, and their stats (assuming any

I was looking at the Colbalt's file, and when I read in you're post that the frigates love to focus fire (too what seems like a fault), I searched for focus fire stuff, and literally found: prefersToFocusFire TRUE I figure (though haven't tested yet) that if that is changed to false, then while they won't concentrate fire, they might just be willing to auto-cast more liberally. Off to test that now :)

Had limewire, had viruses. Got rid of limewire, got rid of viruses. Limewire/Kazza/most other P2P apps (and careless downloading from illicit sites) = viruses. Now,it's YOU'RE computer, not the family's, right? I suggest you tell you're sister and boytoy (LOL! couldn't resist) that they have to either become adept at not downloading viruses (you must help with this as you're the one who would be saying this to them), OR, lo

I thought it was pretty good when I saw it about 6 years ago. It seemed to deliver the effect (to me anyway) now that it meant to do when it first came out. Doesn't have any re-watch value IMO though. A one shot wonder. Not bad for a '60s sci-fi movie. [EDIT] was there a remake?

A tip I use when I post is to copy it before I post, then if my browser (I recommend FireFox) does not load the page (it does this frequently), I simply save my reply and come back later to see if it's posted. I've never even double posted here as a result.
