Not yet released :) Team is working on it, likely beta release next week.
Dr W - Fences Support
This can still be accessed by the "Sort by" menu accessible from the Fence groups menu, but it is (and always has been) available only for regular Fence groups, not Folder Portals. I hope this helps!
This should be resolved for the upcoming beta v6.82, thank you!
Hi pingel, please adjust your settings to: This will ensure your layout is remembered uniquely on each of these setups, and also icons on your primary screen will follow to the next configuration's primary screen. Please note that each of the layouts are stored separately – so, once you establish one for one of your 4 monitor setups, that 4 monitor setu
Hi all. The team has noted this one, however unfortunately this would be a very complex one to address. We've made note for the future – thank you for the report and detail
This sounds practical, but I would still need a backup of my layouts. So, you are basically offering a quicker way to access backup layouts, and use them like pages. I like PhoenixRising's suggestion of keyboard shortcuts for quick access to the layouts.
Yup, pretty much this. Would take some finesse to pull off and we'd need to figure out more around how this would all work, what purposes it would be serving etc, but gl
Again looking to draw out how people are using the system. It sounds like at least a couple of users are using it to switch between different layouts entirely. Backups are a poor use of the system; they require going back and redoing the backup of the old, then restoring a new. This is not a great system for that use. A better system would be to offer ability to switch between layouts. This would function something like, it automatically saves the previous one before switching to the
And actually I'd say it's more Apple than MS! 😆 Apple giveth and Apple changeth, without appology. Microsoft though tends to support the exact same thing for decades. 😵💫 Microsoft has moved to more of an Apple stance of "evolve" now that they found their old tenant made them rigid, prevented them from moving forward.
Truthfully, can't be everything to everyone! Software evolves. Never change or please everyone and software stands still, become encumbered. With the new multi-mon config tracking system in place, we're moving towards better ways of doing things for the use cases that are left over. This step was a step taken to draw out exactly this kind of insight so that things can be done better based on how people are using them. Growing pains!
@basj, I would recommend those users use different user accounts! 😆 (And or different pages using pages functionality, if they insist on using same account!) Having each user need to go in and load and save/restore "backups" is not a great way to go about things. "Before loading up your own icon layout, save your other family member's layout first" etc etc @Jan, I guess similar question. Backups restore to a specific prior state. New icons that have appeared since a backup do no
Right. Well snapshots can still be taken manually which are kept indefinitely. Just not renameable. Given that there are screenshots of the backups, wondering the purpose for the rename, and the need to restore these old backups? Aware of course that it can be handy to have a failsafe.
Should note – this feature was cautiously added back. We found that folks have been using it as a crutch for the multi-monitor switching not working properly. The new system should take care of that – storing different multi-mon configurations separately – so it should no longer be necessary to name backups. Backups store "everything" and at one specific state in time – so switching between them is not a very good solution hence we have been downgrading it. &nb
Hi Janne– what are the reasons you're needing to name your backups and are switching between them? Thank you.
Hi Jagio, so– we did load this up (recreating the placeholder files and all), and so far going back and forth between 1080p and 800x600 cannot yet reproduce. Everything seems to come back and forth in the correct order. Not finding any smoking gun here, but, found a possibility anyhow regarding low resolutions and icon placement. This will patch your existing install
@PhoenixRising1 good catch, this has been resolved thank you!
If this does not work, please send us a copy of your settings. You can do this by using regedit.exe. Instructions: Open RegEdit.exe and navigate to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Stardock\Fences". You can right click the "Fences" key on the left (the navigation tree), click Export from the menu that appears, then upload the exported ".reg" file. But yes please adjust the setting recommended by basj, as that is likely to resolve. Since you have "don't present my layout", you'
Ha– @CrazyMC, agreed! We'll be doing another localization pass in September as some strings re-settle.
Hi PhoenixRising1, unfortunately this is a technical limitation! Cannot maintain the blur during animation. It should restore once settled to the other page; let us know if it does not.
W00t! Yes those are exactly the numbers I'd expect. (But yes the solution does not make any sense. But hey sure.) Glad it has gotten fixed!
😮💨 Unfortunately, not sure. There is for certain no lines in code in Fences that modify this, which could only be accomplished with a call to SystemParametersInfo with SPI_SETWORKAREA. I hope it can be figured out!
Sigh alright. So there's the bad news. There is something on your system that is messing with the Work Area on the system. Those numbers should not match. <a href="https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/api/winuser/nf-winuser-systemparametersinfoa#:~:text=primary%20display%20monitor.-,The%20work%20area%20is%20the%20portion%20of%20the%20screen%20not%20obscured%20by
Hi Francky, we recommending using the new layout adjustment system. Have you tried this out and if so are you still experiencing the issue? You'll want to enable "Store my layout on a per-monitor-configuration basis", make an adjustment to your layout (to make sure it sets in; give it a moment after making the change) and then try unplugging/replugging any monitor, and it should restore itself just fine. <img src="https://cdn.stardock.us/forums/48/71/4871965/78d
Just for good measure and for testing purposes: AFTER taking notice of "does this happen on taskbar on both screens or just the one", I also recommend turning all 3 of these settings off and trying it out further: And turning this one on. (Which, I recommend turning this one on in any event!) <img src="https://cdn
Aye. Unfortunately these numbers looks fine. This won't be definitive but just as a next step. Give this a run, and screenshot the output? You can just run it directly from the Downloads folder. It's programmed to just read the screen info and show it in a dialog. This will test on the C# Config side as opposed to the integration itself – which would require more debug info be put into and new installer release via the team – but it may give a hint. I'm more or less expect
@Dave, well, this is embarrassing. It was the existence of the letter "|" (pipe symbol) in your title, that had it unable to read. It's probably been messing up other stuff, too! I've resolved this for future releases, v5.82 and beyond (coming up), but in the meantime, you might want to recreate that fence without the pipe symbol and see what happens. Starting with 5.82, you'll have no problem using pipe in the title. Thank you v much for the find!
