I remember that thread, I liked your idea Quack. I like the by-governor idea better but your idea would be an improvement too. And there's no reason they couldn't implement both.

Theoden: I think half the active maso players (me, Ray, Gengsta) are in this empire, and we talk about it a lot here because no one else can relate to us. Don't feel pressured. Gerakken: I put at least twice as much time into a maso game as I do into a similar crippling game. Also, the maso game obviously requires far more skill, and I fail much more often at maso (this is really arrogant, but I can't conceive of losing a Crippling game with any kind of reasonable starting position, whe

It sounds like you could do a Cakewalk tiny/rare in however much time it takes to research Impulse Drive and get those transports out, along with maybe a token star fighter or two. A couple minutes at most. Or maybe start with Pacifists/+40 influence% and you'd have to do nothing but colonize the whole galaxy and let the enemy fall to you. That might even work on Gigantic/abundant--can you imagine winning without ever researching any techs or building anything but colony ships? [Me

For actual living space, you could go underground and house people in subterranean caverns--you get almost unlimited space that way. And that would leave the ecosystem mostly intact. Feeding the population is no problem if you have Artificial Life and Replicators and things.

Try a maso game! Tiny/rare is a good way to get started--if you control-N until you get two planets in your home sector it's not that hard (though by no means easy). I find maso is a lot of fun--it's definitely my favorite difficulty (my recent string of Crippling games notwithstanding). If nothing else, it will make you a much better player at lower difficulty levels.

I just tried your improvements. They're fun! But probably not for the long term, at least for me. The main thing is that it's unbalancing: the AI doesn't realize that Improved Environmental Control is now a great tech, and doesn't research it until late game. [Message Edited]

Various explanations have been advanced, none of which is very plausible in "game-world" terms. Avoiding micromanagement is one answer. The other, which I personally think is the real one, is that it's hard to program the AI to deal with a complicated production system. My own system of preference would be for by-governor sliders.

Knowledge of Vincible’s origins is sparse. He joined the Fellowship after what he terms a “vacation” in the Ivory Tower of the plains of Vigrid, though it is known from other sources that he first took up residence in that tower eighty years ago. When asked what he did before entering the tower, or why he needed a vacation, his face tightens as if with remembered pain. He does not respond to these questions. A powerful mage, Vincible is driven by many things, but most

That makes sense H50, money is so precious in the colonization stage of the game. However, I thought the modder determined the morality weight. So does the game automatically determine the change in alignment based on the penalties involved?

There were plans to add a cinematic for terror stars blowing up star systems in the expansion, a "death star" style explosion. I haven't heard anything about it yet in the beta though, perhaps it will be released in the final version.
