I just finished the colonization stage of a huge abundant. I took every single good choice presented to me. My alignment is 65. :(

Check my AAR in the Masochistic Strategies thread. I maintained good relations with everyone and didn't build a single ship until I had Dreadnaughts. Now that was an extreme case but the point is that you really don't need a military. You just have to give gifts fairly regularly, preferably tech since it doesn't cost you anything. It's not unusual for me to not build any military until I have Battleships and combat transports. I had one game where my first ship was an Avatar and I could probably

Yup, it's a known bug. I don't know if it's been fixed in the beta or not. I agree with you that terror stars are far more powerful as culture stars. I hardly ever build terror stars, but when I do I use them in exactly the way you describe.

Dark Assasin: we mean that you move your economic sliders so that 100% of your expenditures go to military and 0% go to social or research projects. Your empire logo goes great with your name! [Message Edited]

You can check influence on squares you haven't explored using that quantitative influence button (right next to the sector number at the top of the screen). Just search the map with that at the start of the game and you can find the AIs' home sectors. This was posted on the forum some time ago, I don't remember exactly when or where, so I thought you knew already. Otherwise I would have given a non-cryptic explanation in my first post--I thought I was just reminding you! I obliquely ref

I'm tempted to join Yog Sloth's empire (temporarily, purely as a joke, of course) and spam a couple GDI communication and recruitment threads onto the board. Fortunately I'm too mature for that. H50, I assume there's no way to raise overall event frequency? [Message Edited]

H50 (or anyone else) I seek your wisdom. I'd like to mod the frequency of some events occurring (I downloaded a couple events from the library and now they're happening way way too often for my taste). However every event seems to have a "probability" of 100. Is this proportional to the frequency of the event? Why are they all the same? And since I don't see these events in every game, what does "probability" actually mean? Thanks!

Wow, this thread has really moved since I last checked it. Welcome to the Fellowship, Cotal. Always good to see another active poster join up :) The changes to 1.09 look really nice. The "advanced start" option looks especially nice--colonization is getting kind of dull. Anyone know yet how big the scoring change is for the highest levels? I'd love to chat with some of you folks but I am awake at odd and irregular hours. I'm sure I could catch a few of you guys though.

I've tried it once. They do just ask for one at a time. I refused that time (I was in the mopping up stage, and was hugely militarily superior) so I don't know how it affects relations.

Good job. After a few games you'll figure out which techs the AI values and what it doesn't, and which it goes for when researching. That will help you out a lot in keeping up technologically.

Robert, I did that for a while too (getting research done while building the colony ship). I think it's probably the best thing to do at the beginning of the game. I don't have the patience for it these days though.

Do you guide your survey ship around manually and watch for those anomalies? For me the convenience of auto-survey has always outweighed the gains here, but now that I think about it when I come to the big techs like Battleship Technology it might be well worth it. What anomaly class gives the research boost?

I'm pretty sure... actually, I'm *quite* sure, that I've gotten events with a positive effect for the Good option. The Insectoid library event is the only one I remember offhand.

Whether or not you want to join an empire, the empire threads can be fun. There's good strategy discussion and good role-playing and if you like either one you can probably find an empire to your taste. Take a look!

I agree wtih citahellion. If the "good" choice gave the greatest benefits then there'd be no reason to pick evil, and therefore no reason to have the event in the game at all.
