So, I posted an earlier strat on the Spore rush, here: https://forums.galciv2.com/?forumid=357&aid=143163#1120072 But I discovered another Spore strat by accident--this is a late-game use of Spore. What happened was, I'm on Maso, I already had 81% of the galaxy under my influence, and I was on my way to winning. I was 9 turns into my influence victory, when guess what: *THE TURN* before I was going to win, the Torians decide to declare war! Now I can't win an influence vic

The research bonus tiles do stack with the tech capitals, though, in the sense that you can build a lab on the bonus tile--which quadruples the research--and then you can build the tech capital--which gives you 2X * 4X = 8X.
No, I'm playing abundant planets, abundant anomalies and keep my morale at 100% for quite awhile. The trick is in wise loading of your colony ships--your homeworld needs to be raided for population, all the way down to 2.5B. If all your other planets get a 500m start (plus get more ferried in on occasion), that's an exponential speedup in your population increase. The reason you're seeing a powerful Aphrodisiac is because that +50% is going toward your <2.5B exponential population growth, no
Heck, I use the 300% food tiles. Why not?? What's the worst that can happen--your morale drops to 40% and you can't grow anymore? You've got plenty of other planets without bonus tiles whose morale is >50% to make up for it. Besides that, the 300% tile lets you stick with a Basic Farm. If morale is such a problem, save the 20bc and don't bother upgrading to a Xeno.
I bought the third-party expansions to Warcraft and Starcraft and enjoyed them. In the same way, I wouldn't mind expansions simply consisting of maps, mods, campaigns, ship designs, and the like. Cheap stuff that doesn't require a B.S. in Computer Science to do.
I would say the Metaverse scores' correlation with playing ability is about the same correlation as winning a game of Horse and your basketball playing ability. There are old men who can beat Michael Jordan at Horse. P.S. And it's not sour grapes. When I played Civ3 I submitted 3 high scores by beating Deity on Tiny maps and pop-rushing warriors out, and crushed everybody before 500B.C.. It took not even one evening to do, and I wasn't even trying for a high score. Everybo
What I figured out is if you START building one and then you conquer a planet that already has it built, you can continue building yours and get both. Or, if you have yours BUILT and they're in the middle of theirs, you can finish theirs and get both. But, if you're in the middle of building and they're in the middle of building, you'll only get the first one.
Second year Aphrodisiac sounds about right. I'm in my second year and my planets are bumping into the 6 billion limit without Aphrodisiac.
Anymore I generally conquer worlds with capitals before I build my own. Why?? Don't you want them both?
This is exactly why I don't take any stock in Metaverse scores. That's okay--I didn't take any stock in Civilization scores, either. I wish there was a way to replay the same map on different difficulty levels. To compare when people won the same map, and on what diff level--now *that* I would respect.
Base is not 100m, it's 75m.
Aphrodisiac occurs late enough in the game that I don't think it needs nerfing. By that time you're bumping into the farm limit.
I take zero stock in the Metaverse scores. That's why I don't bother with Metaverse. It would be awesome if the Metaverse hosted GOTW's like the Civ folks do, though. I enjoyed hearing everyone's AAR's for the exact same maps I played.
Speaking of which--what's the deal with that "Surrender" option in the Diplomacy screen? That's kinda stupid.
Here's where you went wrong - that 70% is 70% of the base growth (i.e. 52.5 million) giving you a nominal total of 202.5 million. Not according to the Wiki site. The 100% approval bonus is multiplied by the other bonuses, not added. So I'm going to stand by my numbers.
I just choose evil every time. My favorite is when I get to ruin the National Park so I can get 800bc.
No, but if you place the manuf capital on the WORLD that has the 300% manuf bonus tile, then the factory you build on the bonus tile gets multiplied by 300% and then multiplied again by the 33% from the capital.
Here's how I figure it: Base population growth is 75 million (assuming you have 2.5B population already). 100% approval makes that 150 million. Aphrodisiac, Xeno Medicine, + Fertility tech is a 70% bonus, making that 255 million. You can produce 1 billion population in: 4 turns with 0 Fertility Clinics 3 turns with 3 Fertility Clinics 2 turns with 7 Fertility Clinics Subtract 1 clinic if you have +40% pop growth bonus. If you're Super
If I do the Ctrl-N cheese I will build my manu capital on my home planet and not the econ capital. With factories getting +33%, I need the tile for a factory, not an econ building. If I don't do the ctrl-N cheese, I do the opposite: econ capital on my homeworld, manu capital on some other world that has nice +300% manu tiles.
The Eco capital is still worth building, but nothing worth losing sleep over. Most games, it's the only economy building I build. I don't build markets.
I have seen the same problem.
I almost never see the AI planets' approval drop below 50%, so even if they don't, the end result is the same.
Specifically for the wife problem: if Stardock isn't going to add multiplayer for Galciv, is there a way we could add a feature where the wife THINKS she's playing with him?
In the sense that glitz is just the artwork & other pretty stuff, I don't think 3D is glitz at all. I envision a genuinely 3D third-person strategy game. It adds a fundamental strategic element & new way of thinking. You no longer think in terms of expanding your empire N-S-E-W -- you're looking to expand along all 3 axes. Threats could be coming at you from all 3 axes. Starbases' areas of influence are spheres, not circles. Your survey ships looking for anomalies gets a lot more intere
Naw, you can make them declare war on you. You make the other guy take the diplomatic hit that way instead of you.
