My experience has often been the opposite. I'll let wars drag on the entire game. This isn't Civ4; there is no war weariness. It's a little inconvenient to have to watch my back all the time, but hey--let him spin his wheels cranking out starships for me to turkey shoot. That's better than him pulling ahead in research. It would be nice if I could just invade all his planets and end it, but I have other priorities.

I'm on the fence whether to turn off tech trading or not. It is nice to see what techs the AI has on the trade screen, so I know who to target for planetary invasion or espionage. With tech trading off, you can't even see what they've got. And I'm still having good luck extorting techs from minor races, even in 1.50X. How about alliances? Has anyone seen for sure whether tech trading is equally difficult with your allies?
Do you? I remember reading Draginol discussing this issue, and he stated the population on such a planet will not produce ANY money. It's not true. Red planets produce money. They're actually quite good at it, quite frankly. I usually research one colonization tech. Usually in my games there's one particular kind of planet which sticks out--e.g. there will be 5 nice radioactive planets, 2 barrens, 1 aquatic. I can let the barren go. If I'm
Heck yeah I use military starbases! And who says you have to use them defensively? Plonk them down on the OTHER guy's territory. I tend to play Medium maps, on abundant/abundant. I like abundant settings, because that makes all 3 kinds of starbases able to envelope 4-6 planets at a time.
If we're talking Dark Avatar 1.50X, I'm going to say Korath for sure. I have confirmed, Maso is very much beatable using Korath. And Super Annihilator was actually nerfed slightly in the patch. I'm inclined to agree that Thalans are a good one, especially if you're playing large galaxy and don't view the Mind Control Center as an exploit (in my book, if that isn't "fixed" by now, it isn't an exploit). I think I would pick Krynn 3rd, for the manipulate-AI's-into-war strategy. But I have on
My wife plays at www.pogo.com. That game site has chick written on it all the way. I feel gay just playing it.
I think that if you get two similar ships, one with 300 offense and 100 defence, and the other with 100 offense and 300 defence, the one with the bigger offense will always win. Entropy Avatar and Wyndstar have done tests which suggest the opposite. I personally haven't tested this, though.
Defense matters more now than attack. And that would be okay, except that defense doesn't work right.
Yeah, but this latest patch was, well.....
I would like to see a Galciv3 that has a 3-D galaxy, where you move ships in the x-y-z directions. But I can't figure out how you would design the user interface to be able to do that.
Anyway, what are you doing at work with the flu? Considering the risk of infecting others, they should pay you to stay home. Sick = nice opportunity to stay home and play a Gigantic map.
The way to know for sure if you researched the right full-production tech is to see if the radioactive icon on the planet is yellow, or green.
Seems to me they sure are. Grab those PQ-1's at your leisure.
I assume Super Warrior isn't working so well with the new 1.50X defense.
They're probably paying more attention to tech trading right now--if not focusing on a different money-maker game altogether (as opposed to a free patch).
, but if i build 1 farm, my population cap will be about 10B. so 2 entertainment centers will keep the peeps happy. So for the same population would 1 later improvment, like the stadium, do the same job as 2 earlier ones? No not for the same population. The presumption is that your population is growing the whole time. So your population may be around 6b when you have 2 ent. centers, 10b when you have multimedia, 12b (and an upgraded farm) when you h
You got a Precursor Mine (700% manuf tile) after the 1.50X patch? I have never seen a 700% manuf or research on any planets since the patch.
You'd need to make more off that market than the cost of the fast buy in the time it takes you to get a market normally in order to make it worthwhile. I agree, it's not worth it to rush-buy markets, but I don't think this is exactly why. There's a cascading effect. You're not just building that market, say, 4 turns earlier--you're building every subsequent market 4 turns earlier as well. So if you're going to build 10 markets on that planet, that's
You know, if there was one race who should be able to tech whore, it's the Korx. That AI should be buying and selling everything.
Whoa. . . . .she got a sister? Forget that, what about her mom? I bet she plays Galciv better.
I don't see why we can't just bring up the Fleet Manager for planets, just like everywhere else.
Espionage is definitely more interesting since the patch, since with tech trading turned off, you have to steal it.
If your goal is to take away your enemy's capability to make war, then take along an empty troop transport or three. When you successfully invade one of his worlds that you don't really want, bring your soldiers back up and destroy the colony. That way, it doesn't add to your economy, and if you want it later on you can always colonise it yourself or invade the new occupier. Are you secretly a spy for the Korath? Thou must die!! Evil evil! We must
Hmmm. If AI wars are easy for you to start, and they last a lot longer...I think that makes it pretty clear what the new game strategy is going forward. Cool, I never played Drath before.... I need you to do me a favor--I need you to attack my friends here, the Altarians....
Personally I don't build ANY morale improvements other than the global ones like Harmony Crystals, Ultra Spices, etc., but to answer your question, I don't think which improvement matters so much as it does the fact that you're tying up two planet tiles. Usually you want to build the latest morale improvement you have researched. What's going on is, your morale goes down as your population goes up. But at the same time you're researching Xeno Entertainment, Extreme Entertainment, Ze
