I'm wondering whether the power plants also boost the free production from things like racial bonuses, ethical choices, and economy starbases, as well as the asteroids. Or do you pay for it? I'm pretty sure it does increase your free production from starbases, since those are multiplied with the planet's ip. How high can you realistically boost a breeder planet's population growth to? Can you realistically achieve 500m/turn and produce a 2B troop transport every 4 turns?

I always build one farm and don't even bother researching Stock Exchange. If it's a specialized planet that really needs the extra tile (like my tech capital or my manufacturing capital that builds all the galactic wonders), I don't even build the one farm. I only build morale structures on bonus squares. That's an interesting point about the +50% income for 6B pop w/ 2 Stock Markets vs. only sqrt(2)=+41% for 12B pop w/ farm and morale building. I would say the payoff for the 12B po

The Fusion Power Plants etc. are good for planets that are being supplied by an asteroid field. Do the Fusion plants boost your free production? Fertility Clinics can be useful if you have a planet that's exclusively producing Troop Tranports. They can use up quite a bit of your population so it would be good to replenish it as quickly as possible, especialy if it's also high production planet and pumping out transport

I like Korath for smaller maps, Thalans for larger maps. But the Drath are starting to sound interesting now.

I think your different results have to do with your 20% PQ bonus. I have found the racial PQ bonuses very disappointing in DA. It actually hurts you for those low-PQ planets. But to clarify what I mean: if you have 2 PQ-1's--on one you built a soil improvement, and on the other you didn't build anything--no PQ bonus--both planets turned into a PQ16 after the OT (i.e. 1+5+5+5). The soil improvement you built before the Orbital Terraformer came up had no bearing on the end result, p

I've never upgraded a loaded transport before, but it sounds like an interesting idea if you've got vast swaths of space you're crossing. I've always just invaded with the old ones and built new ones to replace them. What I have done before, though, is trade with the AI for his transports and he sold them to me loaded. SWEET!!!

Video games are most definitely addictive. So is alcohol. Yet many people drink without becoming addicted, and they have integrated it into their social lives. If video games are treated with the proper respect as an addictive substance, gamers can do the same.

Agreed. With all the global morale bonuses, I almost never build entertainment centers except on bonus squares. The AI actually builds more of them than I do. I almost never have anything but 100% morale on newly-conquered planets. I'm even frequently upgrading the entertainment centers on those new planets to factories.

On the Mind Control Center, it's possible that it's only the description that's broken; not the behavior. Evil's Artificial Slave Center has to be funded somehow, so I would assume that has to be through an econ bonus. Your treasury goes wildly in the red if you're at 100% military and you don't have MCC up. Everyone's supposed to hate you, so you have to go it alone. Maybe it needs some nerfing (just because Good is a little challenged), but I wouldn't call it completely broken. <b

I wonder if your alliance has mostly to do with the Altarians' Super Organizer trait. I bet if you start wars with the other good civs first, you might not be seeing the same alliance.

Personally i play suicidal, huge maps, but very few inhabitable planets. That's easier on Suicidal? That surprises me. I'd think the AI would run away with it, because you're isolated in your little space and the AI has 100% bonuses. I've always tried dense maps, because it lets me rush my nearest neighbor before he gets a chance to run away with it. Then I've got twice as many planets, which makes up for the AI bonus. You may be right, th

It's supposed to make planets flip instantly, whereas it actually appears to keep them from flipping at all I flip planets all the time with the MCC up.

I've used influence starbases just to expand my borders in space. That'll get me over the 75% limit. Also, I'm led to believe the other starbases carry some influence with them, too. After all, if you build a starbase in the middle of nowhere, what happens? If you want to build military and economic starbases around your soon-to-be-yours planets, that may help flip them. And it ain't an influence starbase, so probably won't piss off the AI.

1. For now I think I'll stick with a Good Alignment because I want access to the best defensive technologies. I still haven't weighed in the cost benefits of superior defense vs. superior offense yet, but I prefer to have a balance for the moment. I believe balance to be the best. It has to do with the combat system. As your offense goes up, you're rolling a die between 0-weaponMax value. So the average damage you're doing goes up by less and less as

Here's what I saw: if you do a soil improvement on a PQ1 planet, it will still be PQ1. PQ bug. Of course. But if you have two PQ1's, soil improve one, and do nothing on the other, they will both end up at the same PQ (I think it's 16) after the OT.

4) Having enough time while observing that planet I also tested Orbital Terraformer. It properly converts all tiles, and properly increases the PQ, also for planets that were colonized after it was built. So if you want to have those tiny PQ-1-2-3 planets as proper monster planets, postpone all terraforming until you build OT. I question this one. While I don't dispute the PQ bug, in my experience the OT transforms the PQ1/2/3 planets to the same PQ re

Personally I really like saving 500bc every time I invade a planet. Not to mention the cheap starbases that evil can build. It would be good to figure out the math behind the invasion tactics. You burn 500bc, but do you make it back in increased population and less transports you had to build? I don't know. I do know for a fact that the No Mercy Invasion Center is only worth it on large galaxies. It costs something like 3500bc to build--a

Yes, rush-buy is much more expensive, especially for big-ticket items like that. I think the real thing driving the cost isn't any real-world explanation, it's just a game mechanic: you're getting the thing much sooner in exchange for paying much more for it.

Very good point. I need to use those speed mods when I'm building a military SB anyway. By the way, as I've mentioned in other threads, I love military SB's and I use them in very much an offensive fashion.

Neutral is no longer overpowered in DA. Also there seems to be a cap on empire-wide morale bonuses, and that cap doesn't go any higher just because you're neutral. If you have a few yellow starbases anyway, that erases Neutral's morale advantage. Although, Neutral probably is the strongest alignment if you have a lot of class-2 planets on the map (and no yellow resources). Good isn't too bad, either. It just requires a diplomatic playing style. But I do tend to think Good is the
