One part of me feels like 3D is pretty much the only way to truly make an evolutionary change from Galciv2 to Galciv3. But I also remember what happened to Heroes of Might & Magic IV. I sunk way too much of my life into Heroes III, but then in Heroes IV they attempted to 3D it. Heroes IV sucked. I would never wish that on Galciv3. I would just think that, if you can figure out how in the world to do the human interface for 3D, it would be really cool that now you have to look ou

The AI will most definitely colonize planets within your influence zone. Not only that, but letting him do it is a good strategy.
I believe Solar Empire, like pretty much every 3D space game I have seen, is first-person 3D. What I'd like to see is more of an omniscient 3D. Like you've got the entire galaxy in a big cube, and you can zoom, pan, rotate it, and somehow manipulate your ships & planets inside. It's the same Galciv map, just in a third-person 3D.
When I started the game I received another +10 to both because of the moon. I feel stupid. I never knew that. I always thought that 10% came from the initial colony somehow.
In my games I refuse to go over the 20k barrier. I will max out espionage, rush buy soon-to-be-completed stuff, build industrial sectors, Anti-matter power plants, starships, spam starbases--anything--to stay just under 20k. I don't build economic planets (but I do choose my economic capital wisely), and I don't build morale improvements except on the bonus tiles. It's good to have your economy on fire like that, but you still need to spend it wisely on good things.
I will be happy just to see what's broken in 1.50X fixed. - Combat is problematic and off-type defense is broken. Please simplify combat and fix defense. - Tech trading is all but broken. Maybe tech whoring was rampant in previous versions, but just making AI value everything ridiculously high is taking the easy way out. Rethink the AI. Also, why don't you make the Terrans and the Korx rampant tech whores themselves? Fight fire with fire. - There are s
I tend to establish long trade routes, not so much because they make more money but because the planets on the short trade routes I tend to invade. I have considered establishing one really short trade route with a minor in my own territory and then spamming economic starbases around it. I figure I want the economic starbases there anyway to boost my own planets' production. Might as well add some trade modules. But every time I try, I'm like, to heck with it--I invade the minor and
Also, you said you were fighting the Dread Lords? Doesn't that violate the 'don't get noticed' provision in the game objectives? tee hee hee probably. I just found that if I flew a ship near the Dread Lords planet, that's where the sector was at.
In all my games, it seems the minute I start to get some decent trade income, I'm ready to invade them. So now, over half the time I don't even bother with freighters at all.
Oh, I know what I would like to see in a Galciv3, and this one's MUCH easier to implement: a real-time-strategy Galciv! You're constantly monitoring your planets and building stuff, launching ships and transports, rallying them to the other guy's planets. When you get in range, they automatically fire. One game would take hours on end, but nowhere near the days it takes to play Galciv2 now. The Warlords series (from SSG games) was successful porting their turn-based series to Warlo
You know, it would be really fun if someone created a 4X space RTS game. Just like Galciv2, but multiplayer and real-time-strategy. You're constantly monitoring your planets and building stuff, launching ships and transports, rallying them to the other guy's planets. When you get in range, they automatically fire. One game would take hours on end, but nowhere near the days it takes to play Galciv2 now. Oh man, that would be SOOOOO fun......!!!!
I ended up beating the game the old fashioned way, and then when I was attacking the Dread Lords planet that's when the victory screen came up (by accident).
The Ctrl-N bug happened in the campaign. I personally experienced it and I hated it, but this was before 1.50X.
Oh I LOVED Frontier! The only problem was, there was no way to win, per se. You just kind of wandered around, conquering planets. But that's not exactly the kind of 3-D I had in mind. Frontier was 3-D kind of like Doom or Halo. First-person. There was another turn-based 3-D space game on my trusty old Apple II+ (the name escapes me, though), where you had a 3-D view of the galaxy. I just have this ideal picture in my head, where you have a 3-D hologram of the whole galaxy, muc
Let's see, what are my gaming experiences with my SO: There's the time my gf was playing Unreal Tournament free-for-all with me. This guy online hit on her and wanted to see if she would team up together against that tetleytea guy. She shot him. LOLOLOLOL!!! We'll play online Spades as partners. Little do they know, we're sitting in the same room together--and we can see each
Generally speaking, I'm going to say no, they're not that urgent to take. You can always flip or invade them later, and that doesn't require any tech. However, there are most definitely exceptions--like if you want to extend your life support range.
cheap-o colony ships that are just colony modules and cargo hulls, will work, but i'd recommend putting ion drives on them as soon as you can. they're cheap enough to justify putting them on. The Korx do start off with Ion Drive, I didn't see that. 85bc speed-1 colony ships vs. 105bc speed-2 colony ships, are 20% cheaper. So the tradeoff, a 20% faster build time (which means 20% more ships) vs. a 50% faster speed (with +1 speed bonus, it'll be 2 speed
I wouldn't call asteroids a HUGE bonus, but...a little bit of micro can grease your economy with them. Particularly putting out ships. If your planet's doing 142ip and you want to put out a constructor every turn, give it an asteroid. If you're doing 145ip, just redirect the asteroid somewhere else.
Or I bet you could market existing games very easily by changing them just a little bit. Like Mortal Kombat. Just create a new, big lady sumo wrestler wielding a purse. Then not only do you market to the women, I think it would be kinda fun to lose.
I know everyone is different but it's the masses they try to please, It's all about sales. The more units they sell the more money they make and women aren't a big part of that equation yet. Yes, and women are a huge and untapped market segment. Or more specifically, ugly women--that's a huge market segment. Particularly in Massachusetts. muahahahahhahah
Based on what I'm seeing, it looks to me like economic starbases actually give more free production than just half. I think what's going on is, you've also got other free production, such as from racial picks or from purple starbases. The economic starbase multiplies your paid production and charges you for half of that; and also multiplies your free production and doesn't charge you for anything. According to the planet screen, I have some planets only actually paying for 60% of their total
Speed works. That'll let you spam lots of cheapo speed-1 colony ships, too.
Why would you want to give Industrialist to Thalans? They already inhale money enough as it is. They need Federalist to feed all those factories.
Korx probably need to pursue a trade-with-the-AI-while-they-kill-each-other strategy. I would actually consider the +50 social production with them. Colony rush, build the Bazaar, pay off the AI. Go evil, get the Artificial Slaves, pick off the weak AI's, steal their techs. A more traditional approach could be to pick +50 military, put out some early freighters, and colony rush like mad. You use the trade to slow the burn rate of your starting 5000bc, so you can colony rush longer
but when there are two or three civs at war with you and your still trying to complete some much needed research, the MB's can be a lifesaver. Exactly. In other words, right when it really matters.
