Hey, man, Stardock was good about releasing this a week early. Now I can neglect my SO a week early instead of on Valentine's Day. P.S. Anyone have any good ideas what to do on Valentine's Day? I haven't thought about it much. The Iconians just orbited a 2-laser fighter around a planet I was going to spore, and I can't figure out how to quickly beat them.

I like the fighters w/ military starbase tactic. It multiplies your bonus over several ships. That gives your smaller planets something to do, while your mega planets can put out capital ships and galactic achievements.

Ah man! It got NERFED! Thats a bummer. Not exactly. They're pulling less money from your treasury to build those things. That's a very GOOD thing. Super Hive in the beta just absolutely inhaled money. It didn't get nerfed, it just got re-balanced.

I tend to use abundant everything, small-large maps. That maximizes the economic starbases' usefulness (even though I never build them. hmmmm....), and I like abundant anomalies.

I'm sure it's X number of turns. I have never once gotten a mega-event, but that's because I don't bother with Huge galaxies. I wish we had early game events. The early game is a bit too cookie-cutter. An economic or research boom in mid-colony rush would be fun.

Dark Avatar's options & game mechanics are a lot richer than DL, so my strategy varies a lot more depending on what race I choose. In a big nutshell, I've got two strategies I go with: one being the classic colony rush, the other being the planetary invasion rush (or spore rush if you're Super Annihilator)--which basically says screw the colony rush, I'll let the other guy colony rush and then I'll blow away all his colonies. I don't let my worlds grow too big, and it's not just the morale, it's that your income is a function of the square root of your population. It's just not worth all the micro of ferrying your population around when you've got billions of population already. That said, I do wish there was a way to create mega-money worlds. You can create mega industry and mega research worlds, but there's no way to offset it with money in the late game (I got lucky my last game--I got the economy boom

I usually don't have time to research the colonization techs. I trade for them or steal them. You can sell them to the minors for some nice stuff. Probably the #1 way I acquire uninhabitable worlds is by influence flipping. That doesn't happen until the mid-game is well underway, but those planets are not that useful anyway until you get the advanced colonization tech. Those techs are really expensive to research yourself.

I don't think Spore is overpowered at all. Just on Tiny maps. On larger maps it gets you a head start, but certainly isn't a game-ender. I can't get ALL of the aliens' planets before they start orbiting ships (on Suicidal), and then I'm left with being at war with all these races. Kinda sucks being at war with the whole galaxy. They don't want to trade with you. That's why I'm curious what other people's strats are. Looks like the last Spore thread on this forum is dated over

Need to ask something else as well: is there really any point to building the various capitals other than fluff? For example, the Manufacturing Capital gives only a 25% bonus to production, while a quantum power plant gives 100% for half the price. The Economic Capital is just two stock markets with an inflated price tag. It doesn't seem like they are worth the investment, TBH. You've got a point there. I saw similar behavior with the morale structure

I'd pay good money if Galciv2 would burn less power on a laptop. That game drains the battery in under an hour, and that's with all the audio/video turned down.

Buying freighters from Civ's is a handy trick although I use it less often. My last game another civ actually gave me one for an instant trade route, I was pleasantly surprised. What two planets make up a trade route if you buy the freighter?

You can build a reusable tiny fighter on a lesser planet, for about 76bc. Why stick a weapon on a transport which goes away? Did the UP make you do it?

I can win in 8 moves in a tiny galaxy in 1 on 1. Hardest level. I could see that. Pick Creativity, start out researching Spore, then Mitrosoft a Spore ship.... Reminds me of the final Dread Lords scenario.
