I'm sure ray could pull off a maso with no cheese, but as for us humans, it'd be a long stretch :P
Instead you could spend money or industry increasing the planets quality, and that this would be separate to any life support costs for bad planets. Population and production and current PQ affect a base amount required to advance a PQ. PQ advancement is slow going but can be helped with techniques through research (use the ones we have creatively).
Moo3 actually has a system like that. And unlike most of the rest of the game, it works pretty well :P
"Taxes are the great equalizer. They are not intended to eliminate the differences in income..." Exactly wrong and exactly right. Taxes are intended to fund the government's function--i.e. defending and governing the country. Taxes were NEVER intended to be an "equalizer" when the ability to tax was first granted to the government. Such ideas are the offspring of socialism, nothing more and nothing less. There is absolutely no reason that the government should be responsible for giving
Sounds like civ and SMAC where if you used nuclear weapons, every civ declared war on you.
That's the key--if you USE them you are universaly hated, and if I'm not mistaken GC is already like this. There should be no reason though to be penalized just for building them, as you could want them for other reasons (portable culture/moving resources/deterrent via MAD/etc).
There will be a few more premade ships though in a premuim expansion I believe, even though we won't yet be able to make our own in-game.
Maybe we can get the devs to balance the parties all out to 5 pts worth of boni each in the next patch, even though this imbalance has been known for a long time...
As a matter of fact one time I sent ALL of my trade routes from Sol to a minor in the next sector over, with trade SB's packed all around--very profitable indeed :P [Message Edited]
AFAIK, cloaking is just a filler tech and doesn't have any actual affect in the game besides giving you Phoenixes... And if it did have the effect of making ships invisible to YOU and it was not a bug then that would still not be a good thing since you'd be unable to click on them ;)
If you have 1.05 already it should be about 8.3 mb so its not a huge download by any means.
Oh, I never bother to even look if I have any messages, sorry 'bout that :P
If Earth is your best planet then sending all freighters from Sol is indeed a good thing to do :)
When you conquer/receive surrender of/assimilate an AI, their starbases just disappear. At least that's how it is now... I could swear that I've had them turn with the planets in older versions, but maybe my memory is just bad ;)
...another Maso in the bag for me, so apparently that first one wasn't a fluke ;)
Yay we're almost ready to start! :CONGRAT:
Just be glad you don't have to keep up with Threadzilla :P
It makes plenty of sense to me. Over +100% just means you're finding better ways of doing things that make you more than twice as effective as you were without it. It's as if you researched "Shovels" and that gave you +1000% to digging over what you could do with your bare hands :P
My one wish is that all my many wishes for the premium expansion will come true :D
I BEAT MASO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! w000000000000t!!!
I beat maso! I beat maso! w000000000000000000t! Thanks to Pontius and Koala's strats, I BEAT MASO!
Holy crapola I love you piratefolk, thanks to your strats here I just beat my first tiny/maso for 22k points!! w00t! :D :D
Ok this MWCer is now officially in debt to Koala and Pontius :P Following a mishmash of your maso guides for the beginning then taking off and running with it, I'm actually doing very well in maso. Torians and one minor down, and the Altarians (most powerful AI) have left all their planets undefended!! They shall soon feel my wrath :D
The spiffy thing about that game though was that I had espionage for all races at the lowest setting on the slider, yet I was able to steal techs. I also got the leadups to the Draginol event but my espionage spending was enough to avert the actual overthrow :(
Ray!!!!! Get over here and reveal those maso cheeses you talked about so we can all get some decent scores :P
the i-league showed up. never happened to me before. 5 or 6 new minor races popped up over the course of the game. usually i get one or two at most. the last altarian planet revolted and became a new minor power. never happened to me before. the galactic prison finally had an escape. never happened to me before. the galactic zoo finally had a space monster escape. never happened to me before.
These are all old things, so you just got (un)lucky
Also now with the expansion, espionage seems to work for stealing techs like it's supposed to. In my last game alone, I stole several techs (Good ones too, even the alignment-specific techs) from the Drengins and Altarians over the course of the game!
