Because all patches that get posted on the site have to go through rigorous QA and get approved by the publishers if I'm not mstaken, whereas SDC updates are completely up to Brad and crew.

IMHO, the best mods are the ones you make yourself (of course that fits right in with what Nand1 said :P)
Same here. I ctrl-N until I get a class 21 earth (+5% PQ), then I check the culture levels in likely spots to find the AIs. If they are too close or if I have too few stars immediately available to me, I ctrl-N again. THEN I set everything up, and begin to look around. Sometimes even after this I get a few turns in and find it wasn't as good as it looked, so I ctrl-N again.
Me too, went straight for el gigantico as soon as I could :P
[quote]Firstly, will I need to download the latest patch?[/quote] If you just got the game, then the expansion is included in the latest patch (given that you have no patches yet!).

Let's try this.... [darn tags got removed, I'll try something else :P] [Message Edited]
What's also fun to do is after the whole galaxy is colonized, send colony ships to grab systems with lots of uninhabitable planets. Then boost the PQ in the systems a couple of times, then use the colonize all cheat again. Since you already have a colony in the system, it gives the rest (which are now very nicely habitable) to you too :P
Yup this is pretty old stuff. Although it does seem that they've tweaked the way the "Die Humans" ships appear--in my last game, Kona got assassinated and suddenly the Drengins had 3-5 corvettes in EVERY sector on the entire huge map :P Of course, this wasn't a problem since it happened just after my Excalibur fleet started rolling off the assembly line :D [Message Edited]
3D isn't coming until GC2... a premium expansion will still be using the same engine :(
Excaliburs are waaaay down the tech tree, after Near Omnipotence if I'm not mistaken, so it isn't surprising if you don't get to it before the game is over. [Message Edited]
Only Pontius could bork the table tags on a dynamically generated page...
Yeah, that crazy GalCiv thing Alex is playing, what's that all about anyway? :P
Well presently I'm patiently waiting for mexal to send out the character sheets....
You know I've always wondered, shouldn't it be made so that you can talk to each AI as they get UT, regardless whther you have it or not? Kinda defeats the purpose of having a UT if you need one on both ends :P
Vote people, vote! If you expect more GalCiv goodness in coming months you gotta tell Brad it's worth his while :P
Special thanks to Cari for a fix that either intentionally or unintentionally got finished and found its way from the test EXE's she made me a while back into the expansion code... now I get ship battle animations in all their glory, without hanging the game! Yay!!
I would most definately buy it, but only at retail unless I can soon remedy my blatant lack of a plastic fundage device... :p
Heh I thought I might have missed something by being late but all I missed was Brad saying Hi to everybody :p
Woohooo I'm pumping the expansion to my HDD as fast as my crappy little modem can hurry!!
Woohoo I'm downloading away, so happy it was a slow day at work so I left early :D
Damn you surther I thought from the thread title that the expansion was up for download just before I was about to go get ready for work... damn you for smashing my hopes >:(
I've always been a firm believer in the subservience of computers. I use my own custom built version of litestep to let me do what I need to do faster and easier (plus it uses less memory than explorer does). The problem is most people just don't have the right attitude about their computer, that you are in control of it, and not vice-versa!
Nooooo at this rate I'll not be able to start the download before I go to work, so I'll probably still be downloading it tonight when the chat comes up.... so much for any relevant comments on my part :(
