If you are playing the Metaverse, you are not playing GC "for fun". Tons of threads on that in the past. If you are going to play the Metaverse? Then you play to whatever scores best.I really don't care about the Metaverse, other then as a tool to submit games to SD so that they have one more point on how people play their games. Why? Because I play like I want to play. I do not allow a scoring system to dictate what size a map to play, what difficulty, and what kind of victory to get to

yeah, just mess around with your color settings, my problem was 32 bit color, but yours may be having it on 16 instead of 32. And you do have the latest patch, right whitman? Other than that.... can't think of too much that would be causing stability problems. [Message Edited]
Great game and all but it's buggy as all get out. Of all the games I have ever played, this one, as far as playability is horrid. CTDs are rampant. Unless the developers can make a patch that fixes this stuff, looks like all I have is a $40 beer coaster.
try changing your color settings from 32 to 16 bit. i had CTD every turn when playing on 32 bit mode, but never on 16 bit.
I wouldn't be surprised either. I bet there are several people who are capable of writing a cranking guide for tiny/rare/maso right now. Heck, you probably could after your one game--all tiny/rare games are very similar (and imho dull after you've done it a couple times, but to each their own). The only variaton is whether or not one of the enemy AIs gets two stars--if they do, you just send all the other AIs to war against them to hold them back, then pick off star systems one by one. [/

well.... I can officially say the scoring is very, very messed up. My Painful/Huge games take me about 4 days of playing (read as 2 hours a day, so 8 hours), where i get about 13-18k points, where i used to get 15-20k (and in my most recent games, i played better than i did in the games i got 20k pionts, yet was still only getting 13k points). Using Vincible's set up on Tiny/Rare/Clustered Maso, it took me 35 minutes to get a starting position with 2 yellow stars. I won in roughly 1.5 hours,
tried reloading it, and it seems to be working now..And nah, we weren't allied or anything.. Little bastards had been Wary of me the whole game. I think I should add that I was just trying to take out the ships in orbit, too. I did have some transports, but mainly I was just going for their defenders. [Message Edited]
ummm.... might sound stupid... but... do you have one of the transports selected as your trying to attack?? If you dont have an attacking ship selected (i
As somebody who sees merit in rewarding higher difficulty levels, BUT has never won at Maso, let me offer the following:"Can't we all just get along?!?!!""He started it" can be a fun game. It's not the one I'm here to play. Not every argument is about proving that you're right. Sometimes it's about knowing when to sit down and...No offense to either of you. But please, tone it down outside the Imperial threads. I came to this thread looking for hints and strategies, not for this.
<
Are you playing tight clusters? That usually gives you some breathing room.
yup, and no matter how many times i control N (100+ and counting) on huge, i still have yet to start without seeing the AI having more influence than me in sectors that are more than 2 sectors away from my home sectorm unless i start in a corner with no planets.
There's a thead called "Maso Strategies" in the GC Strategies Forum that has all sorts of descriptions. Everything you need to know to beat maso is in there--admittedly not in a very organized fashion, but it's there. If I were to write a guide I would basically condense and organize the contents of that thread, and maybe one or two others. [Message Edited]
yeah, thats the problem, by the time i get halfway through that post, i forgot what i read already. Some of the str

ah, they AIL.ST for the help on the rally points. Now im still waiting for someone to answer question #2, but apparently some people didnt see those screens. Anyways, a new question: When starting a game, if you turned off all the extra victory conditions, your score recieved a higher multiplier. But with the new victory condition, it benefits the AI, not you.... so if you leave this one on, does your score recieve an even higher multiplier than it did previously, or does i

1) Why isnt a warning given that saved games from 1.05 will not work with 1.10?? I had the best game i ever played going and i cant continue it now. 2) What happened to the awesome looking GUI that i saw in some screenshots Frogboy posted about 3 weeks back? The GUI is pretty much the exact same as it was in 1.05, not the awesome one from the screens. 3) How do rally points work? I tried to figure out how to use um, but whenever i clicked on the ralley point screen (i tried
Max is still 10. The reason for not increasing is that the trade freighters that comes with each route slows the game down so more routes mean slower game.
ah ok, ty
Well, you can't really maximise your trade bonuses since they are additive and there is no cap. Although I guess you can only build a maximum of 144 trade centre modules in a sector. Personally I go for the longest routes as I want to skip the extra micromanagement that comes with building trade SBs.
or you could be like me and incorporate both strategies into your game, making sure to build a trade route in a straight line to the farthest planet possi
I mean, by the time you manage to finish the tech tree, haven't you already managed to reduce the AI to a couple worlds in the corner somewhere? I've never had a game that was still competitive by the time the wormhole techs came around, let alone Beyond Human.
yeah.... most of the games its me and 1 or 2 civs who have very few planets. But i mean by the time i get down to only 1 or 2 techs to choose from, im carrying a lot of maint. costs from worlds i get from the AI a
It's maintenance. If you don't pay it, it falls apart--metal parts rust, the banners of your embassy are eaten by mice, and so on. Why is this unrealistic? Sure it would be useful, but I don't see it increasing the fun of the game in any way
well i can say i disagree with that.... anyone else find it annoying that when you finish the tech tree to go through hundreds of planets and destroy research buildings?? It is not fun spendin an hour doing that. A glo
actually i have made the best bargain ever in my current game on painfull : i have sold avatar tech to the drengin for 42 bc for 900 months.ofcourse i haben't got the time to collect all the money
just wait tell the dreginol (sp) show up, or a cult finds some dread lords. The minor race they create starts out with about 150k in cash. Give them a crappy ship (a corvette that you still have lying around), and blow it up. Then ask for a peace treaty for all their money

i use the governors a lot... in the generic governor, i just put in the basic buildings, like all the economic boosters along with fusion and anti matter power plants (maybe research buildings too, it just depends on my strat for the current game). Then in the 2nd governor i use for major production planets, having shipyards and manufacturing centers. The 3rd governor i use to put all my moral buildings in for when a planet starts having moral trouble. Switching governors is very easy
I changed the color setting like you suggested and the last two games have only had one CTD each, which is nice. Also Ray the Wanderer mentioned that if one destroys his/her own colonies then that can cause a CTD in 1.05 but appears better in 1.09.
well i have xp as well and i was getting CTD all the time. And in the games where i had it the most, i didnt destroy any colonies (the only reason i can see to do this is if im changing my allignment, which isnt necessary on t
I also seem to have other races not liking me no matter how good I am as well.
i agree with this totally, even if i have the highest military rating, and im pure good, my opponets that are pure good absolutely dispise me for no reason at all, while the pure evil are usually a "cool" relation. Being good has 2 benefits: the trade monument, and trade centers. The extra trade route you get is pointless since the max you can have is 10 anyway. The problem is getting

Well i was getting very annoyed with CTD, in my current game i had a CTD every stupid turn. Well i started messing with settings and nothing was working, until i went into my color settings. Changing color from 32 bit down to 16 bit helped a lot, and i have yet to CTD since i changed it.... hopefully this will work for other people with this problem.
