ok, this helped me on CTD a whole lot..... in my current game, i crashed literally every turn until i did this. Change your color settings from 32 bit to 16 bit, and i have yet to have a CTD in an hour. Hopefully this will work for other people.
hopefully the expansion will make it better... but ive tried reinstalling/repatching about 5 times now, no luck there. I find it comes on the annual report usually as well, though i have had a few when ships get destroyed. [Message Edited]
yeah, i have deadlock 2, civ 2, civ 3, Civ war generals 2 as well.... alpha centauri i have not played yet, ill see if i can find that. AC1:Dark Majesty= best mmorpg EVER.... I was on leafcull as Insurgent (lvl 125 Archer, retired). I hear there releasing a new expansion soon of AC1 but with AC2 graphics (the only thing worth keeping from that game).
I have MOO2.... but ive heard nothin but bad things about MOO3. Looking for something to play right now because of a few problems with this game: a) CTD every 30 minutes is annoying b) On higher difficulty levels, you must do one of very few strategies if you want to win, and this makes the games very repititive. c) The way the metaverse scoring works makes it so that i can only play about 15 games per month (my last game had 20k score, yet raised my score in metavers
Black Shade: I interpreted "morale trouble" to mean low morale, like below 50. I guess you probably meant "morale that isn't 100." If so we agree.
yup... i put my moral buildings in a seperate gov unless im on huge/gigantic maps where the micro management is too much. As soon as a planet drops below 100% moral, i switch the gov the planet is working under(unless it is working on a wonder/trade good) to the moral governor. [Message Edited]
I look forward to going back to larger maps in the future and playing at higher AI levels but for now, cranking is pretty fun. I just wish I could play faster than 2 hours (my goal is an hour) but before cranking, all my games were 2 days. . I might have to turn off the stereo, get really lucky on my crash-to-desktop problems.
that is the only thing stopping me from playing this game all day... stupid CTD >:(
if you want to maximize your scores, check out the cranking guide (GCCG???) EBZeroMatrix (the post is on the first page here someplace). Now to get even more points added on to his strat, you can change the allignment of the AI to all evil, and make yourself as good as possible. Using ZeroMatrix guide and then chaning the allignment, i was able to get 11k points on a tiny map against beginner computers in a game that took no more than 40 minutes. As apposed to my gigantic painful game that to
ah, thank you very much vincible!!! that is exactly what i was looking for :D
I would disagree with the above post: you should definitely build an entertainment network and a few other cheap morale boosters as well. Morale->more people->more tax income. I also would not build the research centers, and I do build the Anti-matter plants. Gengsta had an excellent post on this subject in this forum.
i told him to build as many moral boosters as possible, save 1: the virtual reality center... maybe my post isnt clear, but i thought i said buil
yeah, i have found that i can trade for a few techs from 1 civ, then trade those for more techs from the next civ, and the cycle continues. However, the problem early game is to avoid getting into poor relations with the other civs. Because my military is going to be weaker than the AI's initially (while i try to prop up a production SB so i can actually build stuff). Bad relations= bad diplomacy= no tech trading for me= dead.
Like jeff said above, the key is what you build on each planet. Most of the social improvements are totally useless. Stick to the following: Soil Enhancement Habitat Improvement Terraforming Anti-Matter Power Plant Banking Center Economic Exchange Stock Market Teleporters Stadium Research Lab Neural Network Galactic Research Center Research Center On Major Production Places (in addition to above): Fusion Power Plant Ma
Taking a race's homeworld supposedly has several potential concequinces, including the possibility of the race breaking into three seperate empires. I can't think of any occurances of this in practice, however.
this has happened in about 10 of my games. It only happens to the poor Drengins (for me). On a side note: is there a way to switch which planet is your capital (cause some games earth is a bad planet and id prefer it to be on a higher PQ one or maybe in a b
k, this is a copy and paste of my text from the main forum, i accidently posted it there: i have seen a few people post how they win games but regulate themselves to 1 sector. This is very easy to do on tiny/small. But on the larger map settings, how do you go about your build order? Obviously your going to need an aweful lot of starbases to keep up in production, and since your restricted to 1 sector, you wont get much tax revenue, so trade is your main income. The problem i seem to ha
ah ok... makes sense now. I didnt know about the monthly block thing LOL ty for clearing that up
oops, ment to post this in the strategies forum.... woopsies. But anyways, since its here, i am playing on painful (maybe crippling, not sure) and i do ok until battleships come around. This is when things start to go downhill, and downhill fast. I think im gonna try setting the difficulty down first, then work my way up....

ok.... great guide, very helpful. Now im not sure if this is different in 1.09, but in 1.05, allignment adds a whole crapload of points. I cant get the bonus for evil for some reason, but if i set all the computer's to pure evil, and i take ever good choice to get to chaotic good, it adds about 3k points to my score. Doing this same thing with evil and having AI be all pure good only added another 1k (not sure why). But the extra 3k points adds up to a whole lot considering the speed of thes
well, from my understanding the metaverse does scoring by taking your total score from all games, and dividing it by the square root of the total number of games played. This formula works fine for my score, and is accurate. Now when i load up the average score thing, i looked at the ppl around me (im rank #21 currently). The person above me, arkdoz, has the same number of games played and a slightly higher average score. My score is ~28k, so i think that his should be around there.... dead
well i didnt have this problem until yesterday, but now every time certain social improvements finish, i crash (makes it very very hard to play when u drop ever few minutes). I have no clue how to fix it, and i have tried a reinstall as well. It is a major pain in the butt, and not worth playin atm.
oh.... 3rd question (with a question in a question: is there an edit button for these posts?): what is the point of mars and saturn... why bother programming static planets if they are useless?
oh another couple questions on something that is bugging me: #1. Is there a way to have your planets switch their military production based on the gov. that planet is using?? If both my normal planets and my production planets are currently building constructors, but i want to build overlords,I dont really want my crappy planets to start building overlords when i hit the military swap button. #2. Or if i set my funding level to 0 on the economic slider, have a single planet still ge
yeah, my tech strat is very similar to yours. I guess ill try rushing for corvettes in my next game. I whole heartedly agree on the minor civs, they really help me out catching up in tech.... minor civs are my friends :)
well, on the empire thing, im not sure really what the point of an empire is (other than exchanging strats or havin ppl to talk to...). I play on large-huge usually, my current game is gigantic but i dont like gigantic because i usually have 2-3 hours of mop up (soooooo boring) on AI's that are totally defenseless but never ever surrender ( i dont think ive ever had an AI surrender to me if i was the one killing them, even if their military rating is at 0, and mine is say 370). And i
well ive been playin on intellegent's for a while, and they are no challange at all... the problem im having with genius level AI is that they are EXTREMELY aggressive (i.e. while im still doing my planet rush 3 of them declare war on me in the first 15 months of so). I have yet to make it out of my planet rush phase (lasts about 3-4 years or more, depending on the number of planets near me) without at least 2 of them at war with me. I cant seem to catch back up in tech fast enough to avoid ge
