To install the latest ATI drivers, you're going to have to run a utility from right here . It should modify the drivers to let you use them. Read the instructions before posting back here confused However, even with the new drivers you might not have much luck. Your GPU is an embedded dealy that's built into yo

Honestly, I'd bet you can blame this on nVidia. Their latest drivers dropped support for the older GO cards. I'm pretty sure guru3d.com has a version of the drivers with a modified inf file that lets the drivers install.
I believe a common term to describe this is "self-righteous".
Update your video card drivers . I was only a couple versions behind and this happened to me. You on the other hand, have got a driver from all the way back to 2004.
Umm, you click the button in the characters thing (at metaverse.galciv2.com) to make your character the default one. Ignore the fact that it looks "greyed out"; that just means that you havn't clicked it yet.
Software is not going to kill a properly cooled video card unless it somehow forced the card to overclock itself or overwrote its firmware.
You know, you could always create ships with nothing but the super powerful weapons (Nano Ripper, or the Evil only weapons). Expensive as the dickens, but they'd get the job done. Could even do it with the cargo hull. What more do missiles add, besides being inexpensive and therefore poorly balanced? Just cosmetics.
Indeed, make sure your paths are all intact and also that the external hard drive has not gone and changed drive letters on you. Try wiping out your preferences stuff, in the My Documents\My Games directory. On those failing, run SmartException (in the Free Stuff area of SDC), and then get the game to crash. It should generate more useful debug info for diagnosis.
Update your video drivers (visit ATI.com, choose the Drivers menu at the top of the page and follow along). Also, install SmartException. It's in Stardock Central in the Free Stuff area. This handy little tool should help the Stardock folks figure out exactly what part of the game is crashing and possibly why. The debug.err isn't useful for that.
Honestly, I never read paper game magazines for good reason. They're all ads. The overhyped games always get terrific ratings despite how crappy they may be (see Driv3r), and the largest multi-page reviews. Indy titles or more underrated games are often overlooked entirely, or given little consideration.
I don't agree with half their reviews (though on a rare occasion there's an excellent one, even if I don't agree with it), and G4 in general is the pits, but this is good to hear.
I tend to like disabling influence victories, but they're generally a nice idea for people who don't like to have to mop up the map after they've virtually won.
Get rid of the weird transitions. Just make the things pop up instantly (or very quickly), it would make it a lot faster and more pleasant to navigate. Besides that, nice work.
add a " ships tactical zoom level " slider or even an enemy ship tactical zoom level Butcherski, you know, that's been in there at least since the early 1.1 betas (possibly before). I think it's in the interface options... And on forth to the new changes: <TABLE cellpadding=8 wid
Err, I just tried IE and it acted completely as I'd expect. What version are you using? Is it infected with any malware, spyware, "toolbars", etc.?
1. Reasons for this were already stated (this obviously isn't a SE game, for one). Besides, Galciv 1 had them on the same tile as their star. 2. Read the above stuff. Besides, that would get crowded and annoying. Finding the star you were using as a landmark would get obnxious when there's nine others right beside it. 3. ? 4. Why? What does that contribute to gameplay? Perhaps in another game, but it wouldn't aid Galciv
Now that's strange. Did ATI break something with the latest drivers? (You might want to email stardock with this incase it shows up again)
I havn't had the lucky ability even once. None of the races I've chosen have that inherently either. Oh well.
I got the subtle ones such as that one, the xenophobes, the xenophiles, the recessions, the booms, etc. I havn't noticed any of the civil wars, I-League, Fundamentalists, religious fanatics opening a portal to another dimension, "the Torians have uncovered a device that will slowly increase their racial abilities until they are unstoppable", or other precursor artifacts and such things.
I got this same bug from virtually every race I conquered in my last game. That includes Altarians, Arceans, and Iconians, though I might be mistaken on the Altarians (they had only one or two planets to take).
I've just noticed that since I started playing Metaverse games, I've had very few random events. Is it just my luck?
There's a reason I'd play Civ 4 over Rome Total War any day: I prefer to focus on the overall picture rather than being bogged down by tactical combat. Sales figures for Civ 4 and Galciv 2 seem to agree that there are several people who don't mind not having tactical, when the rest of the game is so superb (because of the focus on it). Voila.
And the poll was only usable by IE users as I think that was the only browser it worked with (At least I know I couldnt use it with Mozilla and some one in the comment section suggested that that was the problem) It worked perfectly for me on the mainpage, and I'm using Moz Firefox. No issue. <b
It's called "multisample", and is in the [Video] section of the ini. Turn that to 0. By ATI setup he means to right click on the desktop and open up the ATI CC (I assume you have it, as you have the latest version which tends to force it). Go into the 3d and DirectX section and make sure that Anti-Aliasing and Anisotrophic Filtering are both set to "Application Preference".
