I should be back soon myself. Still going strong at 15 I see. Lots of changes in the metaverse since I last got a chance to look. Have fun, Be excellent to each other, and Party On!

Parties are going very real life at the moment! Spent sunday at the front of the mosh of a Buzzcocks concert, with the song 'Autonomy' dedicated to my girlfriend! It was a cool gig, and the support acts, the Moonies, and the Scapegoats, both had me rocking also. Anyway, eradicus, nice to know you're nearly back with us. It looks like a tough fight to climb any higher in the short term, a sizable number of point seperate us from the Empire of Light. And I don't think we are entirely
Welcome to the Cooperative PJ! I have been a bit busy over solstice period, which is always a fun celebration... ;) Solstice, Yule, Saturnalia, Christmas Eve, Christmas, Boxing Day, New Years Eve, this is without doubt a time of year for unparalleled parties. Finding time to conquer another galaxy could be difficult. But I do plan to get the pictures for the mods finished over the next couple of days, and your story is good. Just need to get it added to the PanGaea blog gr
Okay, good stuff. You definitely have a feel for what PanGaeanist philosophy is all about. Have you applied to have this blog added to the PanGaea blog group yet? That is the next step before we can develop this story further... ...welcome to the Cooperative! ;)
Yes, I was thinking about writing an article explaining how the PanGaean philosophy can infiltrate any of the party's and explain any of their bonuses, but the idea of a mod that provides some specifically hedonistic parties is just a fun concept that has captured my imagination, so I have to try it out... ;)
Heh heh heh, in the mean time I've worked out how to do it manually. Modded a party with just one attribute and kept changing its value and reloading the game. Once I'd found the neccessary values for the Dionysians I created that party. Might load it into the writer to see if its got a similar score. Will do the same with another party I've added called the 'Hashishim' who are meant to be a survival of the old Ismaelian Islamic sect that indulged in narcotic and sexual in
By the way, I thought I'd make use of both graphics for the mod, by adding in a second party. I want the Dionysian Party to be similar to the Hedonists, with slightly weaker stats, but with some other bonus to indicate the wild pleasure they take in ecstatic violence... perhaps a soldiering or attack bonus? Do you have a list somewhere of what the different bonus types are?
Neither graphic actually worked when I tried them, so I have redrawn them. What I did was use Photoshop, and just edited one of the existing graphics in the game, saving it with a different name. The problem was that you have to use the standard colour palette in colour indexed mode for it to work. The previous graphics I did were not even in colour indexed mode, so didn't even have a palette, let alone the right palette. I will upload the correct graphics shortly...
Well I can't give the whole game away, because we are planning something in secret called 'Operation UP'. Basically the plot is something along the lines of a secret society descended from the illuminati that controls the trade corporations of a humanity that became more hedonistic and anarchistic politically as technology offered more and more fun. We are basically evolving a story of our characters and their interaction. Eradicus, currently on a break from GalCiv, roleplayed himself
Hmm, I've attempted to use my pcx files in the mod, but have come to realise that the pcx files I saved from photoshop are 24bit per pixel, whilst those in the game are only 8bit. This apparently causes them not to load properly. :( My photoshop is on my other PC so I may have to go back to it in order to sort this out. Ultimate Paint doesn't seem to be able to adjust the bit per pixel...
Well, PanGaea's logo is already pretty christmasy, being red and green and star shaped. And I've been really busy designing the graphics for the Hedonist Party mod, and have loads of other peices of artwork I'm working on, so its unlikely I'll do a christmas logo for PanGaea this year. Have enjoyed the two evil ones I've seen so far though! :HOT: Party On Dudes! Anton
I'm sure it will be cool. Why, am I alone in thinking Civ2 was better than Civ? (Although I missed the bit at the end where it ran through what happened) ;)
The PanGaea Cooperative are well aware of the power of night. After all, decent parties rarely happen during the day. Thats why our PartyPalace TerrorStars are located in space, where its always night and the party never stops! Oh, and if some star system threatens daylight, we just blow it up... :HOT: To join the party: http://www.galciv.com/metaverse/empires.asp?id=506
Now, I don't mind admitting that I actually find men in drag quite sexy, but... ...the thought of Smeagol (either as I visualised him in the book, and as he was depicted in both the animation and the recent films) wearing drag, is just too plain scary for words... LOL
Okay, I've done the logo. In fact I did two. One is a bunch of grapes, and the other is based on the PanGaea logo... I've put them in a zip file which can be downloaded from here... http://pangaea.galciv.org/hedonists.php Anyway, Peter, are you sure you wouldn't like to join us in PanGaea? You appear to be the only active member in Adventurers Inc. Even their emperor hasn't posted a game since the end of October. We are currently role-playing a bit of a party here
Working in cooperation with Peter Weisberg, currently of the Adventurers Inc empire, Anton is contributing some party logos for a hedonist party mod. The final logo to be used in the mod has not been chosen, but you can download both alternatives and preview them from the link here...
I dunno Hairy. I think Cari was testing posting a Citizen, and so needed a citizen test account called 'catest' as in 'ca' short for Cari and 'test'. As a programmer of a college intranet I know all about the need for test accounts that don't have all the priveleges of the IT staff. However, 'catest' could also be interpretted as in 'The most Catlike'. I don't actually know if this is what inspired Kevin to reply, but obviously he is 'the Kitten' and so it seems a bit like a feline p
I might give the logos a go. I haven't actually tried your ones in the game, because I'm on the wrong PC, but I am supposed to be an artist, and now you've provided the correct dimensions and I presume it needs to be pcx files like yours, I could get out photoshop and give something a try... ...give me a couple days though, I'm a bit busy at the mo.
Another suggestion for a hedonist logo might be found in a picture of a wine glass (or an ancient greek wine jug), a bunch of grapes, the mythos of Dionysus, or Bachus.
He he, that is cool. I don't know anything about modding, so I cant help with the logo. So far the logo for our empire has had the logo of two interlocking pentagrams. There are some metaphysical reasons for this, and I intend to add a short article to our blog about it at some point. Anyway, two interlocking pentagrams form a ten pointed star. May I suggest that as the logo if someone is able to do it? This may actually tempt me to try modding you realise... ;)
I still think its silly that all taxpayers are soldiers. Oh I was aware of information warfare as a tactic, but thats hardly what I mean either. What I am looking at is more strategic over a long term. A strategy of economy/research and production, or a strategy of defense. It would be nice to experiment with that. To have that level of control.
I think GalCiv2 is not an update but a whole new game, which will be to GalCiv what Civ2 was to Civ... :HOT:
Cool. One thing I've been noticing playing on the harder levels is that its quite tough keeping up technologically, prompting me to trade techs a lot more than I would in a 'normal' game (I try to avoid it if at all possible). This has led to me noticing a weakness in my game that I will need to rectify if I continue to play at harder levels. Basically I need to learn to keep techs to myself that have trade goods and wonder improvements attached to them, until I have built the
I use linux, but I dual boot. I mainly keep my windows partition for games and photoshop. I mainly use linux for email, ftp and website editing. I browse websites in both using mozilla. I have heard that you can get good windows emulators for linux that will use all the appropriate windows files straight from your windows partition, but if you have a windows partition, why not play the games from it? Except that it might save a reboot...
Oh, I see, so from the point of view of my own website, where I am not giving out webspace to anyone else, it is not a security risk for me to use them, but it might be for you on galciv.org where you are giving out sub-domains, because of what the users of those sub-domains might do with them?
