An Illuminati faction is a secret (well, I say secret, but there are different levels of secrecy) society, dedicated in some way or other to continuing/advancing/developing some aspect(s) of the work of the original Bavarian order of the 18th century. Whether the original Ancient Illuminated Seers of Bavaria still exists or not is irrelevent. Most of their objectives have already been acheived.
