I believe it shows up because of the way SDC updates the products. Some people who have Object Desktop or other Stardock product subscriptions don't run SDC on a regular basis, and therefore could still have WinStyles installed on their system. I would guess that the WinStyles reference will eventually disappear from SDC at some point when Stardock has decided that the transition is complete.

lol@ratdog. My girlfriend just got a Chihuahua-Terrier mix that fits in my coffee cup, I found out to my disgust this morning. The neighbor asked what breed it was, and I said it was a "Why Bother." Come to think of it, it was shortly after that I found the little fleabag in my coffee cup.

I would love to see this thread work, but forgive me if I have doubts about it. As DesignCaddy pointed out, there is already a Help section and a Skinning section, and people still post whatever they want wherever they want with an amazing lack of thought or consideration for others. *sigh* Was going to rant some more, but thought better of it... As for my request, I would like a DX object

It's always a good idea to run a virus scan on anything you download from the net. Having said that, bootskins are downloaded as a zip with three files, two .bmp files and an .ini file. The .ini is the only one that has any code that could be executed, and it is only activated by the bootskin program. Unless there is a huge vulnerability in the bootskin program, which I doubt, an .ini file with sufficient code to be a virus or trigger a virus would simply be rejected as an improperly formatte

Maybe he actually followed the "process" he posted as a "news" article on the home page of Win Customize! His computer probably puked in retaliation. How is it that everything else on this site gets moderated but news articles which are prominently displayed on the home page can be posted by any Tom, Dick, or dune? Talk about unprofessional... <img src="http://images.stardock.com/images/smiles/grim.gif" bo

I can't be certain from so small a screenshot, but I'm pretty sure that is one of the P99 colorpack skins for sysmetrix by pinchecl. It may or may not have been colorized a bit, easy enough to do if you want an exact match. you can find the skin with matching rainy here: https://www.wincustomize.com/skins.asp?library=28&SkinID=939

I'm not sure if this is related to the latest WB4 beta build, because I didn't have the problem for a few days after installing that, but after I just updated Skin Studio and Icon Developer and Icon packager, all of a sudden the text on all desktop icons no longer has a transparent background. I've tried everything I could think of to get it back, but I still have those ugly little solid color boxes behind the icon text. I'm completely stumped as to what's causing it. Any suggestions, other tha

This is not an actual way of copyrighting something, at least in the United States. It MAY be, and in fact HAS been accepted as prima facie evidence of the date of creation of a work, or of the authorship or ownership in several state and federal court cases regarding disputed claims to copyright. The very simplified truth regarding copyright in the United States is this: One need do NOTHING to establish copyright. Copyright of an artistic or literary work is established IMMEDIATELY a

#45 by BakerStreet - 11/16/2003 7:14:59 PM Sadly, I think people have come to expect to be able to attain any skill through knowledge. There is a great deal of 'Art', though, in both the development and graphical sides of skinning, and that really can't be fostered easily. This is a tinkerer's hobby, and if you aren't willing to tinker aimlessly (endlessly) you aren't go

Baker said: There isn’t enough money to pay professionals for all the skins we need to energize the artform, so this community *needs* the elite hobbyist. To have a stable pool of such, we need to tune-out all the pressure to commercialize, and be satisfied with making beautiful UI for our peers. I agree whole-heartedly. And we need not only to

Frogboy said: So now Konfabulator is coming out for Windows. My view is, if Konfabulator becomes more popular somehow than DesktopX then we're a bunch of losers who deserve to be on the ash heap of history. With a 2 year head start and a lot more features (and DesktopX is cheaper!) the only way I can see DesktopX losing is through either a) Stardock sucking at developm

Any aspect of the law in the US or elsewhere can get very complicated and this is no exception. If you're really interested in what the US law is and the fair use doctrine, here is a fairly good plain language presentation from the US Copyright Office: http://lcweb.loc.gov/copyright/circs/circ1.html Having said that, IMO, I agree that you should make every effort to contact the holder of the copyright when using a trademark or copyrighted image. From a practical standpoint, I wouldn't

Echoing Weaksid, especially if you are formatting to NTFS, and even more critically, NTFS under WinXP, you need to FDisk or risk winding up with unmountable boot volumes or other nasty errors. Also don't know if you want to wipe for security reasons or anything, but if you want to make sure nothing can be recovered from the previously stored data you will need some type of shredder or wipe utility that will overwrite the data several times before formatting. Luck has nothing to do with it. If you can uninstall your 4.19 version through SDC, which you should be able to do, then you can get you can get the non-beta 4.10 version of windowblinds to install. After you uninstall, close out of SDC and restart it. If you don't see 4.10.010 liste under the Available column next to Windowblinds, look to the lower left pane. Uncheck the box for "Show pre-release versi

I design interior components for the auto industry, mostly dashboard and doorpanel items. The work I do is pure eyecandy, styling the visible surfaces. Guess you could say I'm a car skinner. This is my second career - my first was in the Army as an interrogator and psychological operations specialist (propaganda not medical ). <img src="http://images.stardock.com/images/smiles/lol.gif" border=0 ALIGN="

One can make the same mistakes for years and call it experience. If you've always done it this way, then why do you expect a different result? I had that problem with my first optical mouse and I hadn't even hear of Stardock then I ended up unplugging from the USB port and using the PS2 adapter for the mouse port. It freed up a USB slot and fixed the problem. Wish my problems with my girlfriend could be fixed that easily

I am not now, nor have I ever been a fan of almost anything Micro$oft, but I have to admit, I love the M$ Optical mouse for most things, and I wouldn't be without my M$ Optical trackball plus for graphics. I have tried several Logitech optical mice out of sheer perversity and regretted every one I bought after a day or two. And the prices on optical input items seem to be coming down quite a bit now that the technology is a little more mature.
