I think half of your problems are down to the lack of diplomacy in this beta build. Essentially everyone is at war with everyone. Beta 4 will have diplomacy in so the gameplay will move up 10 notches right there. I'm not sure about your start locations, its not something I've noticed so it might be sheer bad luck.

Have you checked the "show pre-release versions" check box on the games page?
the few games I've played it appeared that some of the solar systems were almost touching each other. I'm guessing you set the number of stars to a high level? But I do know what you mean, the map can look a bit cluttered when playing with alot of stars/planets, but I suppose thats personal choice. I prefer playing with a low-mid density of
I still think stopping all production is harsh, I'd like the final world to have some hope of breaking the blockade. Odds are they're going down anyway, but there's hope! As you say Ewan, if you built a couple of cheap, fast, long range ships you could theoretically blockade opposition AI in the very early game and knock out one or two civs very easily, if planetary production halted completely anyway. That would be cheese factor. I'm all for cutting off offworld food/tra
As The Seer said you probably encountered the 'invisible ship' bug. I understand it happens alot when players rename ships, I'm not sure what the cause is to make AI ships invisible. Having said that, cloaking tech might be fun.
It might be helpful to add your comments to the existing thread. Link
I don't think I've ever encountered that. Are you trying to start your turn before the last one has finished processing or something?
Have you checked the "show pre-release versions" box at the bottom of the games page?
And saturn should have special trait "Straosphere rings" which increases tourism and influence. (BTW will there be special traits on planets, like rare fuels, hostile microbes etc.?) On on planets as such, but the planets tiles can have special bonuses for buildings of a certain type such as cultural bonus for cultural improvements and so on
This still has some tweaking to do, but yeah, in the final game, you should end up seeing gfx for all equiped weapons. Oooo big hugs
Try digging out the readme file, it might help give you a few pointers.

Just boils down to time and budget. There's always after release to revisit it. Any thoughts on what you'd like to do in a possible expansion?
My vote would have to be Venus (PQ 3?), Earth (PQ 10), Mars (PQ 7?), Jupiter (0), Saturn (0) I like that.
People always ask for an even bigger map. I imagine that it could be adjusted during game balancing.
I think it might be best if the blockade reduced planetary production, say by 50%, to reflect to disruptive effect of a strong hostile presence, but it's not completely crippling. If your last world was blockaded and production stopped then it really would be game over. With reduced production at least you have a chance.
Nope no binaries in-game. At least not yet.....
I think you're talking about game balancing really, its not something to be worried about atm, the time for that is coming.
i'm really enjoying the new strategic tensions in the game, but am concerned about the micromanagement of upgrading - even a little "+" on planetary buildings indicating that they can be upgraded would be nice. Yes it would, good idea.
As for Eve-Online, great game, but yes, mining gets tedious, but they do have some brilliant systems in place, and for that, I respect them. The longterm playability is there - if you can tolerate the mining. I've been playing EVE for over a year and my total mining time probably adds up to a fortnight. If that. You don't have to mine to pla
Y'know, maybe this is why I can never keep up technologically. Hmm.
The crashing like crazy is probably a stability bug. Are you running SmartException to log and report the crashes? Take a look at this if you haven't already. Link
What about a demo? So that I can see if I do, in fact, like it? (I'm pretty sure that I will but I want to make certain.) I don't think there's an any such thing as a playable demo for a beta test. As Kap_kao says, the game doesn't ship until February 2006 so there won't be
Nobody wants multiplayer? That's a pretty lame generalization. The more accurate statement is: Only a small number of people want to play a multi-player 4x game. The additional line would be: Even fewer people would buy this game on the strength of a multi-player mode.
I was joking around about disagreeing with the feature (hence the '')...tooltips in general need alot of lovin, and should be in for the Beta 4 release. I think I'll be lovin' beta 4
