One of the things we've played around with were modules on starbases that would prevent ships enemy ships from going past them for a few tiles on each side. I love the sound of that. That could make for some excellent war upset moments as the fleet is required to knock out a forward base before it can pentrate the empire. Oh yes. <img src="s

So, I don't see an issue with the method I described for deciding not to display a ship upgrade, but simply only showing the latest and greatest would be a mistake. You lost me a bit in there, but the suggestion is that modules which are inferior in all respects should be removed from view. If its slower, bigger and more expensive on all count

There are also random galactic events (not in beta 3) which is what GNN was when you get down to it. Dunno how its going to be presented yet though.

Sorry Star Pilot I just don't agree. I think the tile system is a huge improvement over gc1 and it does require strategy. You have to decide which worlds will do what for your empire and to what degree. You have limited space so will you build the entertainment centre or another research lab? If you build the lab is that low morale going to be a problem later? Or do you need more research badly enough to risk it? <

There are guard and auto attack functions, but I've not realy used them in beta yet. I think they do basically what you're asking for although your idea might be an amalgamation of the two.

Refering to MoO2 once again, i liked the way blockades were done in that (apart from blockading a whole system was a bit extreme, should of been done by planet) where all supply convoys and all production were stopped (i know alot of people were not a big fan of it, but i think it still a great system) . I do agree with ship size, and it should be anything above a frigate

I don't completely understand why the beta needed to be closed; after all, players in it have already paid. By 'closed' it means that new pre-orders can't download the current beta, those who pre-ordered before the deadline can play as much as they like. As I understand it, the reason for closing a beta round is to avoid late comers spamming

It seems the advantage is that each new engine technology is either smaller, cheaper, or both. That means you can fit on more engines rather than one more powerful drive. But then it might change when it comes to game balancing.

At least, is the battle visible (like auto in MOO2), or a result is just presented to us ? I mean, what's the point of customizing the appearance of your ships if you can't see them ??? The fleet battles will be shown in what stardock are calling a "scene view" while single ship engagements are done on the map like in GC1 (but much prettier)

Tbh I think Stardock are leaving espionage as is from GC1 and concentrating on other areas. From what they've said I think they're hoping to develop it a bit later on but its not a major priority atm. Anyone got thoughts on what they want to see?

Oh Wait. No ships in orbit? So what happens when that planet builds a ship. If the ship it built was stronger than the blockading ship, what happens then? If the blockading ships occupy the same space as the ship being huilt then once built the ship would immediately enter combat I think. If it wins then the blockade is ofc broken. If it lose

one of the games i onced played i GC1 i ended having minor race owning half the star map (conquering a couple of majour races ) and im sure when you have that much power u become a majour power by default See thats what I'm talking about. A minor race shouldn't be able to do that. When the system allows for minors to do everything a major ra

Probably a bit early for solid answers but lets see if I can help: 1. Shortly before or after (up to a month either way I think as its a promotional tool) 2. Its certainly going to be availiable for download from this site, the GC1 demo can still be downloaded from the GC1 site so Stardock will do the same here. 3. Surely free, who would charge for a promotional item? 4. Probably the full game with a map size restriction and/or turn limit. 5. I dont see why it woul

In gc1 minor races could almost everyhing a major race could, but they were harder to talk to. A minor in a good start position would sometimes become once the strongest races in the galaxy. My problem with this is that effectively the minors ARE major races, they just cant claim victory and they don't have the graphical niceties like an animated embassador. And they seem to be annoying as hell to handle diplomatically. If thats true what is the point in having minor races, just make them in

remember the original intent of minor races as being races you could exploit to help you attain a level of economy, technical achievement, and power to compete with the major races (the AI also was able to exploit them). The minor races were limited to how far they could expand (only within their initial sector) and travel. I guess too many people thought the minor races

Personally I find the minor races annoying. They can be as strong as a major power but lack character. Might as well be full fledged civs imo!

Beta 3 closed to pre-orders about a week ago, so it probably won't show up for you. When beta 4 comes out in october you will get access again. But just in case make show the "show pre-release versions" check box is checked.

Think M002 battles set to auto. The computer fights it out we watch. The intention is for fleet battles to look good and be more involved than watching a stack of ships just go pop on the map. Stardock dont want the game to come down to how well you control your ships against an AI opponent, instead the focus stays on running an empire and your admirals run the battles for you. I'm dying to see what it will look like! <img src="smiles/SadAngry.gif" border=0 ALIGN="abs
