If you preorder right now, you won't have access to beta until Beta 4 starts in late October. That's what I thought until I read Zeroflux's post. Now I'm back to "huh?". <TD class="m

I would recommend some of the more impatient types like myself try the old version while waiting for Beta 4. And I thought the late pre-orders couldn't download anything. If what you're saying is right then you have access to eveything everyone else does. Which is contradicting, well, everything. Confused? You will be!
We also need the pre-order beta access bit to be a bit more comprehensive and updated to avoid it more ibn the first place.
Planets were also more different because of events. An event that gave +30% to ships or research made that planet a ship-producer or a research-planet. Right now you get # +7,10,20% tiles for farming and research in 10 tiles, that's an average of +1% farming and +3% research. Make the specials +200% for a class 10 planet, it'll still be +20% (effectively adding 2 free tile
Will we see the campaign/map editor in Beta 4, or will that wait until after release? Think you missed this line: The campaign, "Dread Lords", won't be in the public beta since the surprise ending is a major is
I don't really understand the "starlanes" comment. In Moo 1 ships moved directly between solar systems and could not be intercepted en-route. in Moo2 they added individual planets so fleets moved to a planet within the system then could move between planets. In both systems battles always took place in orbit of a planet and if you were invaded
Beta3 is closed, but read this and knowledge shall be yours. Link
Also, read this which Stardock posted yesterday: Link
Turn-based gaming is, if not a dieing breed, then certainly one that is loosing market share, not just here, but everywhere. One reason for that has to be the simple fact that fewer tbs games are made, so they don't sell so many, so make even fewer. The great champion of TBS atm has to be the Total War series, but even those have RTS battles.
There will be regular updates to Beta 4 going into Christmas. Yeeeeeeeaaaaayyyyyy!!!!!
Massacring and enslaving the population should be treated as an evil act. It should earn you loads of evil points. And an alien planet should always be able to declare independance and rejoin it's native civ (or recreate it) if they become unhappy in future, no matter how resigned to occupation they make be at present. But is it still e
i think if you have a clock ship you should still know where it is yet you dont know what kind of ship is there or even the number in a fleet. it means that way an fleet is secretly passing by your ships and destroy all your planets without even knowing So you detect a cloaking signature but can't identify what sort of threat it is?
I hate getting into complicated mechanics so don't comment on them. I just talk about magic buttons I want see which make a certain thing happen. The rest I leave in the hands of the devs. I like the new tile system, I'm not finding it too much work. I would like an option to auto upgrade buildings (starport to advanced starport for example) but thats about it at the moment.
At the moment the Beta (round 3) is closed until mid-late october when Beta round 4 is released. If you pre-order you will get access to Beta 4 wen it comes out and naturally you get the full gme when it goes gold in Febuary.
Oh yeah... I never build farms. Farms suck. Markets and Banks kick their butt, and I never have to waste tilage on additional morale raisers doing that. If Farms are meant to raise money, but other things do it better without adding to the morale issue, why have Farms at all? This is balancing issue. Farms produce food which determines your pop
Interesting concept! So....a ship near to your colony might upgrade in 1 turn where as a ship out in the misddle of nowhere/on the front line might take several turns to finish upgrading. I assume that a ship in the process of being upgraded would be marked in some way. Will be interesting to see how it happens.
Well I did say "wild guess"
From everything Stardock have said on this they had a choice. Ship design or Multiplayer. They had enough time and money to develop one, they could not do both. Multiplayer is a viable add on feature through an expansion pack, reviewers don't slate strategy games for not coming with a multiplayer mode, however take away the ship design and GC2 loses a major selling point from both its single player and multi player modes. For that it would get a less good review and poor reviews ad
Totally agree with you there Zoomba, more physical 'barriers' in space would be great to create some space routes and choke points, but still maintain the freedom to move around in 'deep space' away from colonies.
I don’t have the demo (and now I know I never will), so I don’t know how exactly fleets work. But I think a lot of people will at least miss the option to fight the battles for themselves. Tell me, what’s the point of being able to design your own ships in detail without being able to actually use them to their advantage as you intended in their design? Or: what’
I'm 90% sure that there will be an option to upgrade existing ships but its one of the features that didn't get into Beta3. No info I can remember about how it will work though. If not then it must have been dropped from the features list at some point.
I've not heard anyone report that before. Have you tried starting the game while your internet is online? Maybe it does want to authenticate your install once, but can't, so it is hanging. Wild guess.
Link If you have a look at that dev journal it suggests that this is what they're working on. But then I could be wrong.
Well, I'll jump on the "multiplayer for an expansion" bandwagon. I was a huge MOO2 LAN player back in the day. I played and enjoyed Gal Civ I but it didn't receive much replayability from me because of the lack of MP. For that reason I didn't bother with any of the expansions. Gal Civ 2 looks like it will have enough new features to get me to buy it, and I'm enough
Games like half life (CS), ut04 or WOW ... have a huge success cos u can play it over inet. Well two of those are first person shooters, fast paced and designed to be purely MP (counter strike that is, not HL) while the third is designed by definition to be online muliti-player. All three are rubbish single player and none of them are the sa
