To me this kind of discussion is little more than mental masturbation. You say this when you are so clearly a fan of PC games? Egad, sir! You denigrate an act that is most wholesome for prostate health, and probably also fundamental for female well-being in ways I do not fully understand. p.s. I challenge any of you to try linking talk

Despite my best intentions, I've been lured away from the DA beta by the Metaverse activists. I'm pretty sure I'm committed for the (huge map) long haul to my first Metaverse game but I'm starting to think of my current game as "the old days." This has made me notice the things I like and miss most from a DA POV: 1) The mega events are a swell idea (even if I might still want some of them tweaked for "balance"). 2) The environment stuff makes the colony rush much more satisfyingly c

I'm doing most of this on my home machine. It's not even a dual core! Well now, that's either spooky in terms of Stardock's collective coding skill or disappointing in terms of how much you're currently able to invest in automated testing. And I'm not given to either/or views on things <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Hmm.gif

And what looks like a good idea on paper can end up being a disaster in the real game. Bollocks to the "on paper" part here. What looks like a good idea can *always* end up being a disaster, whether or not you had time to read, think, and write about it. <table cellpadding=8 width="95%" align=center bgcolor=#FFF394 class="mb-Body-Quote-T

I am at the bottom. I can read no further without saying 1) GCII is not a mere "video [deck] game" and 2) The game spectator role (video [deck], PC, or otherwise) is perfectly respectable given the fact that individual skills and tastes vary.

Sir On The Edge, in another thread, Brad has persuaded me that there might be something worth considering in the distinction between "wrecked" and "ruined," i.e. recoverability. While I still suspect the mega events can cause "ruin," e.g. when you have both the Speed Limit and Peacekeepers active, I'm pretty sure I'll eventually be able to appreciate having survived a "well tuned" mega event.

But I do wonder...how does one start an AI vs. AI War anyway? I don't recall that being a feature you can choose at game start...developer-only feature? There might be a command switch we could all use, but I doubt anyone other than the devs would want to. I can just as easily imagine an in-house app that makes the GCII executable believe a human

Here's another possible new one: why can I only see 10 threads when I click View all recent posts ? Earlier today, I saw more, maybe twice as many. If the change is intended, it seems like a downgrade to me. Edit: OK, I tried about 4 times before this post, so naturally things looked "normal" the next time I viewed recent posts. Darnit, I shoulda screen capped...

The AltMeta is something not controlled (or sanctioned) by Stardock. It can be changed of our own volition without requiring Stardock to change anything. However, there is no AltMeta without the "official" data from the real metaverse. What a classic example of questions leading to other questions. But Mumble's reply 94 might have helpe me sharp

As they're two different websites, that's not even technically possible. At the Core though you can just as easily have it remember your login so you rarely ever need to give it a thought. I'm an obvious Kryo fan and I have to scoff this. 1) the word "website" has no real meaning to laypeople and barely any to professionals. The original point of

p.s. FortyTwo, I hope to see you here. I've long pretended I don't like Douglas Adams as much as I really do. The Hollywood thing wasn't nearly as bad as I'd thought it would be, when I finally broke down and watched it.

I've been playing PC games since before color displays were common, so I have a kind of long term view. With luck, Stardock will be around long enough and manage their growing prosperity well enough that we'll see a GC3 or GC4 that has a more accessible and interesting scenario/story layer. Meantime, the sandbox is the place to play, IMO

Evil did me right by starting his own thread on the "what's a thief" question. But a few posts later in that Grammar nazi sprawl thread, QuietlyObserving says "If we are to be a society founded on the Rule of Law, it would be prudent to maintain a healthy respect for language and the meaning of words, lest we slip into a dictatorship of unelected Judges." This gives me a painfully beautiful opportunity to start a sister thread to Evil's, and ask you all to sink your fangs, fingers, etc.

As with so much of GCII, answering your question depends on your strategic priorites. Re "tons of morale buildings," to an extend, the answer is yes. For the long haul, roughly 2:1 morale to farm buildings is a good rule of thumb. But lots of us avoid putting farms on planets under about PQ10 b/c of space limits & the morale bonuses you get for larger worlds. Since you don't seem to be breaking the 20 billion pop boundary, my guess is that you need to try for more approval bonu

Since the money you can spend on espionage is a percent of your income, (up to 25% or 35% depending on your Super Ability), there is no way, even if you turned the slider down to zero, to increase your income by 400%. I think you've made a mis-calculation somewhere. I suspect there's some miscommunication. My income went from around 50 BC to aro

threadjacking In a world of boundless ugly neologisms based on computer crap, this is sweet relief. If Evil S coined this term, ten thousand huzzahs for it. He deserves at least a thousand if only for sharing. The OP and Mumble's followup have managed both to make me feel half-smart and yet still suprise me. I would feel very smug right

when you go to war every available planet starts producing AFAIK, this doesn't happen automatically, but it does seem a very likley player response to AI attacks. It took me quite a few games before I began to ask myself "do I really need to build ships on this planet right now?" I like having starports on any PQ10 or better world, but

Draginol, I'm glad to see confirmation that you can set up a group of AIs to play each other for testing. But you didn't make any mention of map size, which in turn made me wonder if it is still too rescource-intensive for you to test the largest games (huge map, abundant everything, 9 rivals) this way.

I think there could be within the context of the AltMeta I was parallel typing with Mumble, but he reminds me of other "related" stuff I asked elsewhere re Metaverse-only communication venues. I thought the core motivation for this movement was to encourage some changes to the "official" Metaverse? I don't like having to sign in lots of

Has anyone spotted some Stardock response to the different requests for "passive" spying (sleeper agents, intel slider also, etc.)? Is there any hope of some sort of compromise? Lately, I've been working on my first Metaverse game back in DL and I miss tons of DA stuff, including the new sabotage functions. But I do *not* miss this down side of the new espionage system.

If you're the OP when you go to the Tools menu the first entry is to Edit Post Thanks, Mumble. I try to be "honorable," so I wouldn't edit an OP after there was a reply. Re the UI, I would never have thought to look for the command under Tools b/c it is a link in plain view for replies.

Hey, Evil S is stealing my thread! Counter-digression: I liked seeing this thing sprawl and live long also, but maybe some new OT threads would be fun, like "What's a Thief?" It'd certainly save some time catching up for anyone who took an interest mid-sprawl. Back onto Evil's digression: I'm a recovering postmodernist (not recovering so well, alas), so I usually end up thinking both that "a theif's a thief" and that stealing might be OK (or even good) sometimes. OK is somethin
