I downloaded the lasted release today from Stardock and when I try to play the game, I get an error message saying that it failed to initialize the display. This worked in the beta, but I have changed my display to a ViewSonic VA721 flat pannel. It runs at 1280x1024. I have the latest drivers for the video card, which is an ATI Mach64 with 4MB of memory.

Glad that fixed you problems. :D
Trying to maximise scores would only lead you down a path of repetitive tedium.
Not to mention extreme frustration with the scoring method used for the Metaverse. Ever worse if you don't play for a while, at least for some. For some reason, even with the recent recalc of the Meta, some people haven't submitted for 2 months and there score doesn't move.
In the tactical map display, I accidently zoomed in, but I can't figure out how to zoom back out so that I can see the entire map again
Use you mouse scroll button to zoom out. If you don't have a scroll button, try the arrow keeys.
I urge you, Weyleader, to think again the relations between the actual number of stars and and actual number of planets in the Milky Way...
I understand the issue, but I suspect that to truly represent what we know about the Milky Way we would have very few, perhaps only one, planet for each AI, and even then that might be an over representation of planets. I think that in terms of a playable game, rare does a pretty good job of representing what we know.
Though the realistic universe should be the first priority in the creation of the sequel.
When you choose your galaxy, choose "rare", it is more realistic in your definition.
I have yet to se them actually move them any where.
I have seen them build them and move them and space was flooded with constructors running back and forth. Although this was all in one of the earlier versions of GalCiv, so I don't know if can still do it in the lastest version or not. My games don't last that long any more. :D
I live in hope

It's in British Columbia actually, near the Rocky Mountains
Well, at least it is not in Arkansas :D LOL :D LOL
So what's the highest natural planet class
The highest at the beginning of the game is 26. There are event that can up that by 35. Improvements can up it more. Towards the end of the game the highest I have see is 120
Try rebooting your system. I had this problem for a while and I had to reboot to get the game to run.
Also, Stardock certified mods should work with no problems, other, well, you are the tester. Most work, though. But, there is still the caveat that when using mods you might trip the zero score daemon. Especially those that use boost to PQ. Check the PQ status monitor metric and make certain it doesn't go above 40. I often find myself at 35, but most of the time this is not a problem.
If your party lost control, then you tax slider is probable too high. Lower your taxes until the indicated show a better than 55%morality.
Is there supposed to be a 'you have fallen bellow 500BC' message?
Yes, such a message comes up when you fall below -500bc. If you did not see it, you missed it.
Pat fixed it and they should start returning to normal
Thank you Pat and Cari. Things are returning to normal for most people. There is now some concern that the position in the list on the Metaverse is different the the personal position in the profile. See discussion on the Diplomatic empire
Sounds like a request for CariElf to help.
Just check to make sure you player name is registered with you serial number, go to the Metaverse page and click on the button half way down on the left that says register player. It should take you to a page that has your player name and your serial number. If they are blank, fill them in and submit.
are there special conditions which might apply
You get the first two for free. After that it cost money. But, they are maintenance free :D
antlers off of mooses
:D LOL :D LOL :D :SURPRISED:
My score isn't being shown in the metaverse. Anybody help?
Have you registered you player id and serial number? On the bottom left side of the Metaverse page there is a button called register id. press it and follow the instructions.

Go to Stardock Central and download under the "freebies" tab a program call SmartException. Run this before you run GalCiv. When it crashes it will generate a log. You can ask CariElf to look at it. But, before you take up her time, have you played any games completely yet, or have they all crashed. Is it only crashing after you upgraded to the latest version? You have upgraded to the latest version, right? If not, first thing to do is to upgrade to the latest version. Are you p
It seem that more and more pure evil players are showing up with pure good smileys. Can someone at Stardock tell us what is happening. Also, some people received former 3rd place medals when they move on to page 1 in the Metaverse. Oh, and some people have black shields when people with higher difficulting ratings still have red shields. Will these be corrected. Is the Metaverse melting down due to old age? Will it exploded into a super nova? [Message Edited]
where can i see which version of the game i am running?
On the main menu after you start the game. The menu button is at the top of the galaxy and the version is at the top of the main menu.
Is there any fix / patches for the map editor?
Check to make sure you are using the lastest versions of your graphics drivers. The map editor is graphics intensive and will need the lasted drivers to work properly.
Good timing, I leave for Washington,DC Monday
Welcome to my home territory. Today it is very un-July like, that is warm and low humidity. Normally it is hot and high humidity.
