I just make loud noises like "hubba quack" when I open programs. that way I don't have to fool around with the windows sounds.

I think the problem is you have your computer on. turn it off and you should notice a remarkable less amount of cpu and memory usage.

svchost is supposed to be there. object dock has some compatabiltiy problems with the earlier versions of photoshop (specifically photoshop 7). see how photoshop runs without objectdock running.

press ctrl-alt-del at the logon screen. no need to go into safe mode. you should get the old style logon dialogue.

When you get the cd, you also get the code to download newer products of object desktop off of stardock central. with that you can get the newest beta releases. right now the icon packager version that I have is 2.50.082 and I got it through sdc (stardock central) with my object desktop subscription.
