Umm, regarding my last post..I'm playing on beginner level. A friend of mine has informed me that starbases don't cost anything on lower difficulty levels anymore (what can I say? I've been distracted from my GalCiv'ing by other stuff on Totalgaming.net lately). If this is the case, then sorry for wasting anyone's time with my uninformed question. LOL Too bad he didn't tell me before I made a fool of myself on this thread. LOL Gomen ^_^ Edit: mods, please feel free to delete eithe

Sorry if this has already been posted in a bug thread elsewhere, but has anyone else had this problem? I've started a standard, non-campaign game of AP v1.51 and I've build 3 starbases so far I believe, but none of them actually cost me any money to build. I'm not sure if it's a bug or if that's been disabled or if one of my data files got screwed up during my last update, so I thought I'd ask. I've had data files screw up during an update once before (at least that's how it appeared to me),
I LOVE Alpha Centauri and I still play it from time to time. LOL I always liked the interplay among the various factions and how their ideologies affected to some extent their abilities to do certain things and their relationships with other factions. There was also a kind of immersive quality to the game that I couldn't get enough of..the voice clips that are played when new technologies are researched and when certain structures are built being the big example I can think of right offhand.
Looking through the new additions to the network and they sound fascinating. Can't wait to try them out. :D
I'll miss that friendly Drengin offering me games when I start Stardock Central.
I gotta agree with Kevin there. Gonna miss that vicious/friendly guy. :P Hope you at Stardock see lots of success with TotalGaming.net! :)
In order to run GalCiv in a window 1) you must be running with a screen resolution higher than 1024x768 and 2) must be running in 16-bit color. At the dos prompt you can navigate to GalCiv's directory and type "galciv.exe w" (without quotes) to invoke windowed mode. You may also use the "w" option in galciv's shortcut. Putting a space and a "w" (again, no quotes) in the target text field outside the quoted path to the .exe worked on my system just now (I usually manually invoke the .exe from
I remember getting one of those big poster tech trees with Civilization: Call to Power. It certainly was a nice resource to have. :)
1) I like the addition of the newspaper after interviews and when some campaigns are started. Gives feedback as to how well your interview was taken by the public. 2) I noticed that vice-presidential candidates aren't really a factor in this beta. What are the plans at this point for dealing with vice-presidential candidates? 3) I also like the idea of keeping a running total of electoral vote distribution as a kind of "if the elect
I noticed the strangely-moving opponent too on several occasions. Sometimes he'll start flying around in all sorts of crazy directions and will appear to be magnified and will be misplaced with respect to where he actually is (even off of the screen on several occasions). Perhaps there's a bug in the way the opponent's icon gets moved, because I've never seen it happen with any other units.
16 bit 1024x768
I believe you have to have your resolution set higher than 1024x768 for windowed mode to work and it must be running in 16-bit color, which you are already doing. :)
I just noticed this myself after looking at this thread..hopefully it will pass soon.
If Corporate Machine is any indicater, then they probably will be phony, but recognizeable names. Corporate Machine's companies included names such as IDM, Mitrosoft and MacDonalds. Of course, actually using the real name of a company may border on a trademark infringement, which would present all kinds of legal headaches not present when using a personal name, but IANAL.
Yeah, for $9 it's not really much of an economic loss if you don't like it. I also got MoO3 at a discounted price (at the same time I bought GalCiv as a matter of fact). MoO3 just seemed a lot less elegant than GalCiv..there's such a thing as subjecting the player to too much detail when it comes to running your civilization (particularly in the early game). I also found a problem in that when I ran into something I wasn't familiar with there wasn't much in the way of explanation and the docu
Sort of a League of Non-Aligned Players then? Interesting concept. :) Nice and comfy here in the Evil Empire too though. :P It's good to be bad. :HOT:
Well, you can mail order a CD or download of the expansion from stardock if that's a feasable option for you. :)
I just got the space pirates in either this game I'm currently on, or my last one. I haven't really seen them a lot either recently. My battle cruisers made short work of them. :HOT:
The ai seems to be able to research large scale building without the prerequisite hyper warp.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the pre-req for Large Scale Building 1D Phasing? I seem to recall a thread somewhere about having Hyper Warp as Large Scale Building's pre-req was an error. I forget if the data .zip files that Cari posted fixed it or if it was something I had to manually do. Again, someone correct me if I'm wrong. :) [Message Edited]
I reported this in another threat - don't remember which - and it was confirmed by another player.
Ok, thanks for the confirmation dgperry. :)
Here's something that escaped my notice until recently. I recently submitted a game where the Arceans had an intelligence level of "sub-normal" and all the other AI's were set to "beginner". When the submission screen came up it showed them all as having a rating of "beginner". Is this a bug or am I just missing something? Has anybody else noticed anything like that? Unfortunately I no longer have the savegame files, but a similar situation may present itself at the end of the current game I
I hate snow, but it can serve a purpose occasionally. Today my database design (ugh) class was cancelled because of it. Woohoo! More time for GalCiv. :D Only a few turns away from Battleships, and then it will be time to rain some doom down upon the filthy heads of my doomed enemies!! >:(
In my current game i turned "demonic" with a morality rate of 40. It looks like a bug
I had something like that too. LOL
Nothing stokes a war machine better than fresh Torian slaves. :D The Evil Empire: It's good to be bad
I've never really visited game forums before GalCiv, but I have been to a few non-gaming forums and yes, this site is remarkably flame-free (though I don't read every tread). Seems like a good idea getting on top of flaming problems before they get out of hand. This is a great forum and I hope you can keep it in such great shape. :D
By the way, I just noticed that all my victory conditions, except military, are off. I remember only turning off cultural victory. Am I mistaken or can anyone else confirm this?
Yup, this happens to me too. I've tried all kinds of combinations of Culture, Tech, Alien Tech, and Alliance victories selected and the menu always shows all but military turned off.
You can go to this page to pre-order the expansion without a credit card. Just print out the form, mark where appropriate and snail-mail it in. And yes, the sales people are very helpful. :) http://www.stardock.com/order.txt
Woohoo! New races look great! :D
