This is turning out to be a great weekend! New beta goodness coming soon. :D :CONGRAT: :CONGRAT:
Imaginos
Hurley, I was having problems submitting games a while ago for no apparent reason. Try manually re-entering your name in the alias field. Sounds crazy, but after that it submitted right. :notsure: [Message Edited]
Thanx Spellforce. :D
Could you try giving me that address again? It shows as Cari@Email, which I don't think is a valid email address. :) If it actually is correct, sorry for being stupid. LOL
Now that you mention it, I've noticed that random events not related to planet colonization (you know, like the one with scientists who find out how to make zombies, or something to that effect) very rarely occur. :notsure: The last couple games I played were Simple/Huge and I don't think I ran into many at all. Was this just a freak occurance, or are others noticing this too? Of course, it's hard to determine if something is wrong because they're random, and thus may or may not occur. LOL
The last two games I've played I went to submit my score, got the "it's all good" message and then checked only to find that my score hasn't shown up in the metaverse. :notsure: I checked carefully that I had used the right alias and that the email address field was correct. Wondering if it would help if I uninstall and reinstall. :notsure:
I agree with Wild Wombat: give it some time. A Star Trek Empire is a great idea. :) I'm surprised nobody thought of one earlier (if someone actually has, please tell me :P). Many others who like the idea who also happen to be in an empire already my be too attached to it to leave at the moment, as you said. I hope you can get some people to join up with you soon. :HOT:
Well, according to the GalCiv manual, Earth-like would be considered a 16, for what that's worth. The manual also defines Mars as being a 13, which seems like a very steep gradient. In just 3 PQ levels we go from a quite wonderful planet to something inhospitable. I can't even imagine what a 61 would be like. LOL Rivers flowing with chocolate, mountains capped with ice cream, etc. :D Of course, I'm probably confusing "paradise" from an Imaginos perspective with a biological paradise. :P <b
So would the mods in the library then be considered "approved" and minimally unbalancing or merely "functional"? I wonder if that question even made any sense. LOL I haven't really toyed with any mods at all and hence know little about them. Just looking for some information. :)
#5 by Senator CariElf - 1/8/2004 4:28:13 PM If you have the archive files say on a CD, all you would have to do is install SDC, then copy the archive files to the backup directory. Then choose File->Archive/Restore->Restore Existing and choose the archive files that you want to restore.
So then my understanding of restoring archives is correct? Seemed like a reasonable theory but I wasn't 100% sure. :) Nice to be able to restore to whatever version you last archived in
If I hadn't already sold my soul to the Evil Empire I'd probably go Trekkie. LOL But the deed has been done. ;p Good luck on your empire though Capt. Qwerk. :)
If you archived GalCiv in SDC then I think you'd be able to re-install it by restoring it (gotta point it at the .zip file) and then you would have the version that you archived ready to go. Of course, to survive a reformat it would have to have been moved off the system partition. :P I've never actually had to try this yet, so I'm going strictly on how I think it works. Anybody out there have first-hand knowledge of how restoring an archive works? Is my understanding accurate or am I way off-ba
Ships start to dissapear when you've been playing for a long time. Like, five hours straight. It's the game's way of telling you to find something better to do with your time.
Ah, I almost never have 5 straight hours to blow on one activity, no matter how much I enjoy it. :) At least the savegame problem in AP wasn't hard to fix. :HOT:
if ( !ship.isVisible() ){ ship.makeVisible();}
LOL If it was that simple, I'm sure Stardock would have done that by now. From what I've heard, the disappearing ship bug is buried too far into the code to make it feasable to fix. I haven't ever come across the bug myself, so I'm not sure what circumstances it tends to present itself in or whether it is even experienced by everybody. :notsure:
PJ, do you mean there is a fix for an unloadable AP save?[/q
One thing you forgot to mention Seeker Master is that upgrading to Drengin.net is actually a pretty good deal. I upgraded to it for the expansion but I also get Corporate Machine, which I've thoroughly enjoyed, and Political Machine when it comes out ( :D ), as well as a few others, which I haven't had a good chance to try yet. :)
Seeker Master: Which version of DirectX do u have? I had a missing d3d9.dll error when I first tried running the Map Editor too. Turns out I had to install DirectX9 (only had 8.1). After that it ran fine. [Message Edited] [Message Edited]
The current beta only appears to contain editors (scenario, map, campaign). The new races, ships, etc look like they'll be in a later beta release. This information is coming from the Roadmap on the home page. :) Also, I believe if you go to the menu when in AP, the version number at the top center should be 1.49 if I remember correctly. :)
Woohoo! New Year. :D *checks for upcoming UP meetings*
In a game played in a previous version (dunno which), the Drengin's had a "discover precursor ship" event that gave them 34 Corvettes, so if it is a bug, it's been there for a while. At first I thought, 'hey, they got 3-4 corvettes, big deal'..I had previously in that same game gotten 3 Corvettes through the same kind of event, so I was very surprised when fleets of them took off to attack the Torians most likely. What's the maximum number of ships that may be obtained by a single precursor ship
Well the tech sharing issue definitely seems to have been resolved by using the minipatch from CariElf. :) Haven't really played a lot in the recent past because of the holiday and catching up on all the sleep I missed during the semester. LOL Just started a new game in a huge galaxy (gotta make up for lost time..normally don't play bigger than large). Haven't found any bugs yet and hopefully I won't run into any problems.
Hmm, you have any ideas for a replacement logo yet Hairy? I usually pay more attention to the evil face on the far right of the icon grouping..lol. That reminds me: *goes back to forcing his Torian slaves to build up his war machine*
Anyone else besides me and Nastavnik having CTD's when trying to load a savegame? *repeats to self* it's only a beta, it's only a beta.... LOL
Ah, had to install directx9 to get the map editor working. :) Still get the CTD when trying to load a saved game tho. Looking good so far. :D
When I try starting the map editor i get a 'd3d9.dll not found' error. Any idea what it could be? *scratches head* I've also found that trying to load a saved game in Alterian Prophecy causes a CTD. :( Haven't had much time to play with AP lately cuz I had a concert to go to (please forgive me LOL ).
If you right-click GalCiv in Stardock Central, you should get a menu that includes an 'archive/restore' submenu. In that menu you can choose to archive the selected application, or archive selected app and extra files. I'm not sure what the difference is, but I usually choose +extra files. It takes a couple minutes to get it done, but then you're left with a .zip file in the backup subdirectory of Stardock Central that you can burn off to CD and later restore using 'restore existing' from the Fi
