The difference between scores of various map sizes has received fewer comments. From this I surmise we’re fairly satisfied with these reward multipliers.
Well, if no one else will--I'll pipe up on this. It is not clear to me that the bonus is appropriate. While a maso/gig game does require more relative time--the game does seem a bit easier to me than a medium map where the majors are on you almost at the start. Smaller than that--it seems there is a longer time

Additional thoughts for the E team... Do we want to keep a tight maso restriction on tech sales? That is--only sell techs for cash to the Alexians? I am used to that by now--but I will wait to see what the majority thinks. With no bonus to our military, we are going to have some fun with this...

Dateline Hobbiton The IHL (International Hobbits League) has started an investigation into several key Shire families for alleged use of performance enhancing draughts. Here at the Green Dragon, several Hobbits were quoted as saying that these tall-curly haired fellows have ruined the league. "These fellows should be drinking naught but fine beer, not some greenish glowing draught!" "They look like big folk," said another fed-up hobbit. When questioned, the Thain had

As far as I can tell--the weighting is exactly an average of the games' difficulty (maso=10, crippling=9, etc.). Since I only have 15 games submitted, it is easy to check the calc for me. 15 games (10 maso, 1 crippling, 1 painful, 1 tough, 1 normal = 135 difficulty points divided by 15 games = 9 avg. difficulty--exactly what the statbot reports :) ). If you need avg. difficulty of 9.5 or better for the black shield--only 15 masos to go :) [Message Edited]

Funny you said that, Alverin. I just completed my first tech win on maso--even starting with just two planets. Was so disgusted with the tech score, that I bought my alliances one turn removed from the tech win. Yeah, I know RB is not about the score, but urgh--this was a tough win--I ended up with 4 planets after the torians surrendered, then I had to get evil to keep the Drengin happy--they got the +13PQ event and were absolutely HUGE!!! All the lousy tech win would give me was 17k

I echo what Sirian says, Alverin. This game can very easily kick anyone's butt, given the right conditions. I was only able to make the jump to maso quickly because I did not rely on the diplo picks--sure I used them a bit, but not to the detriment of other picks. I was also working my way through the parties, so I was open to all kinds of strategies. Certainly no reason to be embarrassed. We all have games that work and games that we struggle to just make improve any time. 3D flyi

Point well taken. In that light--the diplo picks are key to cranking out more meta points per hour of game time. The other points, such as learning to press "end turn" more often are valuable to all games, and are especially important to those of us coming over from more heavily micromanaged gaming experiences (e.g., Civ3). Best of luck and fun to all of you, regardless of how you choose to enjoy this game!

SiBCat (or its canine equivalent :p ) has been in use here for the last five of my maso games. Excellent documentation of the concept, as usual. One thing to note--I think there is some scaling of the tech costs with map size. I couldn't find any documentation (haven't exactly looked to hard, either), but I am sure that everything below large has a tech cost lower than what JavaScout's Guide has shown. I am not sure about whether map sizes above large scale up, however. Has anyone e

Greetings to our northern neighbors! A line by Paguma caught my eye...
I chose the Pacifist factor, and chose a +50 in Diplomacy as well. That gives me a +70 on Diplomacy right off the start. This makes it a lot easier to deal with the aggressive Masochistic races. I also of course research all the diplomacy, trade techs early. The key to keeping them happy is to have a high diplomacy and good trading with them.
That is IMO, the most powerful of the pick

Absolutely patch to 1.13. The game is stable now--there are a few crash to desktop fixes, and the disappearing ships bug to fix--any of which are manageable at this point. As far as strategy, you have gotten good advice above, but one good source of information in one place is the current Realms Beyond succession game (a game where a team of players takes turn with one game). The game can be found here. http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=72311 Good luck,

Thanks for noticing. :) Figured it's about time the rest of us folks started to augment the Jaxom/Sirian show. We wouldn't want you to do ALL the heavy lifting, now would we. ;p Smegged will be @100k soon, too. 100k is now here. Couldn't resist trying a tiny maso--two hour smackdown. I think small and medium will be harder--it's too easy to get the trade routes up with a tiny map. Nice break from the alliance wins (aka, bribe, steal, and prey to cover up bad openings). I

@ Smegged. I heartily agree. I haven't even patched my Civ3 conquests yet, and its disc has been sitting idle for a couple of weeks. If it weren't for SGs there, and push from a certain RB'er known for his feasts, I may just leave it altogther. I am midway through my seventh full game--this time as the universalists...then its time to take the other five parties through their maso trials. Absolutely fun game. I think the best part is that you can run through a game less tha

Bah. One chaotic good maso win pulls me from my evil ways. Fun game--after failing at three masos with the technolgists with +1range, +30research, +5PQ and (forgot other pick), I picked +20diplo, +30research, +5PQ, and +10growth. Large, tight, uncommon. I started in the middle Northern region, a couple of sectors from the top of the map. Sol had Earth as a PQ18 and another PQ18. There was another PQ 18 within a sector, and LOTS of PQ14s around, with a PQ16 or two. I managed to mak

So be it. I prefer the prod to the TKO, which has been my history in Civ3 SGs with you. ;) I'll try to avoid the prod in future turns. The real question is what sort of move will earn the pungent weed award similar to irrigating desert? LOL In that light--this game seems to be curing my civ addiction--even with a beta patch that has fixed the most glaring bugs in the expansion. I did start your last Epic--just got tired after I caught up rather easily.
Perhaps these latent evil tendencies explain why you moved us 10 points toward evil in the SG for pocket change.
I just have trouble being good :p . Of course, it looks like my first winning (knock on wood) maso game will be toward the good side of neutral. Nothing like runaway Altarians and Torians to make the wolf don sheeps clothing. LOL
