Hi, SOASE looks like a fantastic game! Potential new player of SOASE here. I have read in several places that SOASE has no DRM. This seems incredulous(sp), and too good to be true. So...does SOASE have a DRM? And by DRM I mean anything that would prevent me from deleting and reloading the game on my home computer as often as I want (for example, if I have problems with my computer and have to load and

Wow, I live in Utah and I had no idea there were all these pornographic games being sold to children in my state. Thanks for bringing this to my attention, Jack! You'd think being disbarred would have curbed some of this guy's lunacy, but I guess by definition his insanity is going to keep him trying the same failed approach over and over and over...
#2 - Top of the line a year ago, and you can't run the bigger maps? Something's either not right or your computer was not top of the line :P
Haven't read the whole thread yet, but wanted to throw my vote behind Camp #1. When I want "Simple and Fun" I'll play a shooter or action RTS game. When I play TBS, I want sophistication and depth to my decision making.
Yea, I'm pretty sure he's referring to online games only, but clarification would be nice. Brad, as much as I know you don't care for multiplayer, I have to say thank you a million times over for including it in Elemental. I have a regular weekly LAN group that absolutely loves TBS games and it kills us we can't do GalCiv2 :)
It basically goes to show what anyone with any common sense can easily figure out: Pirates pirate because they like it and want to, not because companies use some DRM. The whole "this DRM sucks so I'm going to pirate" is a convenient excuse to hide behind that only holds up as long as the first half is true
I agree with you. However, I have also not purchased a game due to DRM.
Yeah a really stupid (hopefully unintended) feature.
I think it's intended. At the stage of the game where you have a L10 ship followed by lower level capital ships, it'd be safe to assume that you're dealing with fleets of substantial size. If the XP wasn't being split, you could level up a new cap ship insanely fast. IMO it would diminish the value of keeping your cap ships alive long enough to get to level 10.
"Smurfing" is a problem you just have to learn to accept. I am not a big fan of it either and don't have a smurf name myself. I can understand why some do it. Sometimes it can be hard to get a game if someone sees a clan tag or stats much less a group of clanmates wanting to play together. I don't see it as a lack of courage because obviously for you posting negatively about it then you lost and they had no reason to be afra
Quoting Hack78, reply 11To be fair, some of the most interesting games I have played (5v5) were where people were intermixed, rather then people rushing from one side of the map to the other (I have a mental image of dodgeball here....). Still, it would be nice to be able to know if someone is going to be totally boned, in the middle of 4 enemy..... Sometimes getting boned between four or five opponents can make it inte
Some people that commented on the article are a bit ruffled about having only 2 races. Nobody seems to know there are 12 factions. Maybe it should be mentioned more often.
This. Can't stress this enough, I'd suggest completely dropping discussion of two races and just focus on the fact that there are twelve factions. I've heard numerous people say "Oh, yea I heard about that game
Thanks for the update, Frogboy! I'm one of those users who has not been able to connect to a single game (despite having played the Beta and having had success there, go figure :)). Port forwarding, all kinds of network tweaking, and just no dice. That being said, I just want you to know I'm behind you guys 100%. If this were any other company I would have written the game off, but I'm familiar with Stardock and know you guys are true to your word. Looking
Hammer slam is intentionally slow, it's not meant to hit non-stunned players. If you're paying attention, you're never supposed to get hit by a slam unless you're incapacitated in some way.
Bullet, Here's the screenshot: Just as an FYI, for Vista x64 users they will not be able to install the ATI Tray Tools software due to an unsigned driver. This is corrected in the latest beta version, which can be found h
Hi Bullet, and thanks again :) I was looking into this trying to figure out why I can't see the option (other websites mentioned it as well). According to ATI documention: This option is available for graphics cards later than ATI Radeon 9500 but earlier than ATI Radeon X1300. Strange, but as I have a 4870 it looks like I fall into the "After 9500 but also after X1300". So no dice on t
Wow, okay so something has happened that has caused Demigod (well, anything running that engine, including Supreme Commander) to go completely crazy. Basically, I load up the game and everything is fine up through the menus but as soon as the game starts... lets just say it looks like the polygons had a night out on the town, got hopped up on acid and PCP, and are nothing thrashing in a mosh pit inside my monitor. I've got polygons stretched all over the place, zigging, zagging, and morphin
It's good to see you back, bailknight, your enhanced particles are really amazing. Welcome back :)
I know issues have already been reported by people with the latest Demigod update, but I wanted to throw my two cents in as well. I typically connect with 2-3 other friends from the same LAN connection. Since Beta3 first released, we only very, very rarely had any kind of issues connecting but as of the last update, we are simply unable to get a single game going. One person typically will join the game fine, but by the time the next person joins, they usually end up disco
It's crunch time at work and my brain is fuzzy from lack of sleep. Can someone please explain what this means?
Advent structures now have a max shield mitigation of 60% when under the effects of Shield Bestowal.
What was the behavior before? Couldn't Advent get more shield mitigation than that when within their own culture?
The sins one? The devs messed things up on that game purposefully with the patches because they hated people playing the game competitively online. :/
It's this type of ridiculous statement that gets people up in arms with you, because they really can't take you seriously. Innociv, I know you have the capability of providing constructive feedback because I've seen you write such posts. If I may make a friendly su

I keep trying, but at the end of the day it always seems I'm better of building them as a straight assasin, or going with an assassin instead. Oh no, innociv returns.
I don't really think I agree. Flags seem fine as-is, in my opinion.
Great interview. I did want to comment on one part, though:
If I were more of a businessman, I would say multiplayer isn't even worth it. However, we basically only play multiplayer, so there is multiplayer because we love it. We're in this because we love it.
Blair, please don't fall into the mindset that the only multiplayer going on is online. I play this game exclusively multiplayer with my friends,
You need to play more with Oak. That is one badass dude. But yea, Generals have problems. My main one with them is economic, they have far too much to spend gold on compared to Assassins.
