I never colonise anything lower than 15. If I have a starbase in a sector I sometimes colonise class 14/13 planets just to take advantage of it's production bonuses or else if there is some strategic reason. Otherwise I'm spending a fortune rushbuying PQ upgrades to get at best a class 16 planet. The kind of planet that by the time your onto battleships is a kind of space litter. Perhaps the AI's shouldn't ever buy a planet lower than 15 to prevent the "poison gift" exploit above.

Personly I find cultural insurrection silly and unrealistic beacause of the following reasons. Why would you submit to the rule of creatures that a)Look nothing like you (with the exception of the altarians) b)You cannot talk to except through a machine c)Will probably treat you like dirt Historicly humans are loath to submit even to the rule of those they consider to be different even if they have practicly identical culture and language. Think how unlikely they are to jo

The creaters of galciv showed a dissapoiting lack of imagination in making them only "free planets". Sometimes they do survive though. Mostly beacause there good and the good majors civs (and established minor civs) form alliances with them quickly and protect them from attack.

I always play with creativity and I think it helps you to get hypersensors and such. I think it also gives you more random events aswell. There is one event I really hate though its the precursor corvettes. Getting one hundred+ corvettes when everyone is on overlord is just plain annoying.

Yes, by the time pirates usually appear everyone has overlords so they're pretty harmless. With the above modifications pirates aren't going to obliterate entire fleets but will only fight stuff they stand a good chance of winning against. Pirates should also be able to raid undefended systems. If a pirate ship intersects an undefended system the player has to pay a ransom or the pirates destroy 50% of the planetery improvements in the system and take up orbit siezing all tax income and stopp

Pirate ships should be very fast and have powerful sensers but be no stronger than they are currently. They should avoid warships and go for freigters aswell as "free snacks" such as constructers and colony ships but only when poorly defended by warships. As an added twist any ship with an attack capacity defeated in battle by pirates is captured and becomes a pirate ship itself.

To the aliens in the saucers of course, I do think that aliens do drive them visit earth now and again but there are lots of hoaxes and such that inflate their numbers above what there should be. We cannot do intersteller travel so we are primitive. All could change of course but we're always going to be primitive to them beacause by the time we develop such travel they will have a lot better.

So you're telling me that GalCiv is the first game to have a sentient AI. An AI that logicly chooses how to play each game and chooses parties that suit it. Hardely likely. I wish you could find out through espionage what parties are in charge and how alien senates currently stand.

Whether a civ honours an alliance comitment in the first place is down largely to the comparitive militery might of the two civs. If they're too weak to possibly win and they're already in a war they surrender to a stronger allied civilization. Minor civ's aren't allowed to surrender though. I think that minor civs should be able to surrender to any other minor civilizations that inhabit the same sector, to the I leugue (for neutral and evil civs) and the fundies (for neutral and good civs).

I think the in game minor political parties may be fixed just like their alignments. The example given, the Sanderon civ is good aligned and is aparantly very liberal (if it weren't good then their superpower nabours the altarian would already have squashed them) so it fits that they'd be ruled by populists. I think that the major civ parties aren't totally random and based partially on alignment.

Why couldn't the celts have built stonehenge out of stone that came from hundreds of miles away? People are willing to spend a lot of money and effort on religion. Most UFO sighting can't really be real beacause of one reason. If the aliens were tech-advanced enough to have faster than light travel then why would they need to assign thousands of ships to watch over a boring planet like earth. If they needed to moniter us then wouldn't they cover this planet in microscopic survailance pr

A game of Galactic Civilizations tends to turn around the invention into a huge war that never ends. For example in one of the games a war between the Drengin and their Yor allies and an alliance consisting of the rest of the universe. 34 years into it I got so sick I resigned the game. Every time I made peace with them and bribed my allies to do so the war restarted a month later. In order to stop this kind of thing I think a 1 year truce period should be introduced after peace has been ne

Then convince the aliens that rocks are part of human culture and then they're sure to buy them. It's the secret fomula guaranteed to win you the game. Trust me. [Message Edited]

The minor races do indeed have political parties as I have just recieved this message. After loosing control of the senate for some time now, it's bieng reported that Sanderons populists have regained control of the senate. The political future looks bright for the Sanderons leader. This proves that the Sanderons at least have a populist leader and it would be reasnable to assume that the others do aswell. Whether all minors are ruled by populist I do not know but I think the
