Does the percent chance of an event occuring on a turn ever vary, or does it always stay the same?
Not sure. It "seems" to improve slightly later in the game but that might just be my perception.
And do the different events have different chances of occuring or do they all have an equal chance?
Currently, after scannning the event files with GalCivWriter, the original events and the mods I have seen all have equal probability of occuring b
How does the game determine random events unrelated to colonization? And how does it figure out which event you'll get
Events are given a % chance to occur every turn. The exact % is not known to the player. If a random event occurs , then the specific random event is chosen at random from the available .event files in your data folder.
Hmmm... You've found one of the reasons that a 51% majority is important for your party. The only way I can think of that might get around this problem, before the next election, is to ally with a major and get that major to declare war on the Caranoids. This should drag you into the war that you want. :notsure:
From scanning early posts on the subject of "creativity", my understanding is that it increases the chance of you suddenly completing a research project ahead of schedule. It more like a random event than anything else.
One more that I now like, that I just downloaded, is the "Star Replacement Mod" by turgotZ. It doesn't affect game play, at all, but adds more artistry to game by animating stars.
Handing out cigars doesn't improve relations?
Not if you don't smoke!! ;)
So, wait. It's IMPOSSIBLE to culture flip a minor?
Actually it is possible to flip a minor, its just much harder. You know you are getting close when the Skull and Crossbones icon appears(indicates the minor's system failed first culture resist check). At some point if you keep up the cultural pressure the system fails the second check and the system flips.
Stardock WILL make a Civilization as fantasy style game after GalCiv 2
This is the most important news to me at least. We KNOW a fantasy style strategy game will get made. My gut feeling is that putting your own stamp on the game by using your own name for the game would ultimately be best. 1) More resources for game development. 2) More freedom to take the best from MOM and similar games and dump their weaknesses. To become a "pure" morality requires one to either (1)play longer games or bigger maps to ensure having lots of colonization events and random events and to always choose the same morality. or (2) download the Saint Pack event mod by Matthew Downie that has events that have larger penalities and thus great morality shifts reducing overall number of events needed for "pure" moralities.
The Drengin.net conversion process is initiated through the "register player" button in the Metaverse menu. Just follow the instructions (rule #7 in the rules and guidelines)for how to use the "conversion" button.
I have serious doubts that such a shift would enhance the metaverse experience. If you thought that people were milking games now for points, wait until you have a single game ladder. GalCiv is ultimately a game that is either won or lost. It really does not matter how you win the game as long as it is within the rules of the game and contraints of the programming. The best strategy games don't have style points. A chessmaster is not judged on the number and quality of moves he makes b
Update: I submitted a game with 1.51 and it submits proper info into player record. Only my 1.50 game records have improper map entries. Since the scores are correct I suppose it is academic about the map info. So far other than the continuing problems with the United Planets menu, everything seemed to work great. I seemed to get more random events but with only a 1 game sample it might have been a coincidence.
History at: http://sdcentral.stardock.com/public/gcx/beta/history.htm
There's something weird occurring with the custom maps and the submission process. Back on June 26th I played the small balanced map with normal rules. At the time it submitted with no problem but nothing showed up in the map portion of the game record. Tonight I submitted two games that I had stored because a new update occurred anf I didn't want save game issues. Anyway I always double check my record to see that everything submitted correctly. The scores are OK but now the games that were nor
1. Mini-colony ship 2. Religious capitol 3. Cultural capitol I list these three because I've been using them so long that they feel like they are part of the original game. DW, I think that perhaps renegade's capitol mods should be grouped together and counted as one mod. What do you think?
I've tried all of the certified mods (in various combos) as well as testing a few I created myself.
Plus some custom made ones that are still in testing
Keep 'em coming, DW! :)
Well, as a creator i use them too, lots of them
You too, Icho! :)
Nope. Yearly
18 months I believe!
Now one just need to get more frequent events
No kidding! When you only get one event through '03, its hard to get to saintly. ;)
All this talk about cheese and snacking is making me hungry! LOL On a serious note, I fail to see how trading techs is cheese when diplomacy is a major aspect of the game and diplomacy dramaticly affects how much you get in a trade. It seems too many people confuse great tactics with cheese. If the developers thought tech trading with minors or majors was cheese they would never have implemented it in GalCiv.

Use GalCivWriter to edit data files. http://www.ctuit.com/bill/galciv.htm
Is there a program I can use to compare my in-use MODs to each other and make sure none of them are conflicting.. and thereby find a free ID? I'd hate to change it only to have it conflict with something else.
GalCivWriter http://www.ctuit.com/bill/galciv.htm
Well, like Qwerk said, I can't give you first impressions anymore. Some recent impressions: The two extra majors increases the need for diplomacy especially in the early game at higher difficulties. Trading techs has become more beneficial with the increase in trading partners. The new ships have some interesting characteristics like ability to heal other ships, etc The AI seems to be much better in AP. The campaign is very interesting becau
