This is a Christmas game that I was making as a side project. I started it about 10 weeks ago, but unfortunatly I wont be able to complete it for this year (and keep the level of quality I was hoping for). I'll be continuing the project for a super-polished release next year, but my new 18week goal is to complete the Side-Scrolling engine it relys on and get a sandbox level up for you guys to play and enjoy. Heres a link to an index of the past journals if you want to play wha

One of the major problems when working on a project by yourself is that it's VERY EASY to underestimate the time things take. Just because you know how to do something doesn't mean that a given task will take less time. On the contrary...the more you know, the more perfect you try to make things and the more you get bogged down in the minute details.

I know we have a "Box Art" item on the Expansion To-Do list, so I'm under the impression that oyu will be able to get a cd version of DA from us, probably at an extra 5$ or something for burning and packaging and such (it'll just be burned here in the office duplicator). So don't quote me on it, but my gut tells me it'll be available in "hard" form for people with low speeds (to be purchased from our online store), just not in retail. I'll try to find out the official stance a

Actually, I remember seeing guys at work hook their XBox into their computer monitors....just needed special converter. But no, out of the box I doubt they'll suppot hookups to VGA

For anyone interested, it sounds like IGN is going to be doing a text feed form the live Japanese Conference (translated, I'm sure). kryo: Ah yeah, I forgot about the backwards compatability...now who can I pawn my cube off to theProgram: Idont thing each player had a finishing move, but there were some combos that would knock your health to a dangerous level, making it

I laughed pretty hard when I saw Solid Snake was going to be a playabale character in the new Smash Brothers game. Any word on if that going to be a launch title? (Scott crosses his fingers)

Over the next few days (and hours, if you’re counting down the Japanese conference), a floodgate of anticipate information regarding the questionably-titled "Wii" system will be revealed. Ever since the consoles announcement (as codename "Revolution"), rumors and specula

Yet again it's a nother drive-by journal. Dark Avatar needs my complete attention, so I don't know how much time I'll be able to give Holiday Knights GC2's expansion wraps up. <object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0"

Yes, please dont add info to your debug.err...having to determine the legigitimacy of errors, on top of fixing them, makes us cranky As for your problem, try updating your drivers to see what differences that makes. I understand 1.2 ran better, but I'd just feel better if you were running drivers that weren't over a year old. Thanks, and let us know if that helps.

Deference: Click on the image for Week 7 to see a playable version of the most recient build...that should give you an idea of how the game will play. iTZKoopa: Drawings not all that great...it takes too much time away from coding

I tweaked the ladder thing so that you can move of either edge and hop off, but (as silly as it sounds) being able to walk off when you reach the bottom will take considerable tweaking. I wont go into details, but in the end, the coding logic that mechanic needs directly contradicts the logic needed to climb ONTO a ladder from the ground, which is much more important. Anyways, as always thanks for the feedback. I have the feature on my

Night Hawk: Don't worry, the epic generator will be much more robust that that. There are pages upon pages that have been (and are still being written) that will create custom stories..no generic "Terrans went to war with Drengin" stuff here I beleive there's an example at https://www.galciv2.com/Journals.aspx?AID=127348 Moos

Another quick journal entry...unfortunately I've been working on a lot of small things that aren't full completed (Second Player animation, final BG art, ect), so while it may seem like I'm slacking, these logs don't list the unfinished tasks. ;) Last week I had made some changes to how the maps were loaded, leaving my previous entry less interacti

The following journal entries are a series of Game Development logs that will track my progress through a 18 week project. Game development relies on two very different skill sets....art and programming...and since I'm doing both, it'll be interesting to see how to best manage my time. As of now, the game hasn't been annouced, but the game's title is

One-Eye: The final Epic Generator will have a weighting systm in place so only the more interesting and relevant events will be talked about in that much detail. You'll only see a chapter like the one above when nothing else of interest is going on. Dont worry, we're trying to shoot for the longest story being around 8 pages, and that'd be for a gigantic galaxy with lots of stuff going on

Hey iHax, Unfortunatly, at the moment, we already have a timetable of products that have us working up through 2011, so there's really not any need at the moment for us to hire someone JUST for game design ideas. I suggest, if you do have a really great idea, pick up a "Teach yourself C++" book and start coding it yourself. Or, if you want, get into C# and play around with microsofts upcoming "Game Studio Express", a free tool for anyone that wants to create windows or XBox360

With August half way past and summer slowly drawing to a close, our deadlines for Dark Avatar are beginning to loom. Luckilly, we've kept at a steady pace the last few months, meaning much of our hard work is starting to really come together nicely. Here are some of the major features we're working on right now.... <font size="5

Mid-project designing has always seemed a 'necessary evil' to me. Don't get me wrong, as an artist, it feels really good to be fighting for the best possible idea then finally stumble across something acceptable, or, if I'm lucky, marginaly impressive . But when the clock is ticking, it's hard to be as creative as you'd prefer. H

Grrrr....looks like Adobe got greedy and upped the price considerably for Flash 8. Luckilly, there's marginal difference between 8 and 2004mx, which you can get cheaper on various stores. I sent you some links in your email, hopefully they can help get your creative juices flowing! Enjoy!

Unfortunatly the XBox360 is a bit on the costly side (and lets just ignore the PS3's price point), but luckilly, as I understand it, the "XNA Game Studio Express" will be able to compile windows versions of your creations (WinXP sp2 and Vista), so that may be a good place to start (once it's released, supposidly at the end of the month). However, if you already have a grasp on Java syntax, I'd suggest taking a look at Flash, which is what I'm
