First, let me say that, if you have Stardock Central, I would only use that to update the game. Any stand alone patches you find on the website are for players that need to update but perhaps their home computer isn't on the internet (or something similar). You may want to start from scratch, since at this point, some necessary files may have accidentally been overwritten with old versions. But, onto your questions.... a) yes b) the bonus pack was version 1.01, which you

Did this happen after reloading a game? Also, bring up your Ship List to make sure they didn't accidentally get set to auto-explore and are wondering the galaxy somewhere. Otherwise I'm at a loss...perhaps they grew wery of the war-ragaged galaxy and decomissioned themselves
Can you install SmartException (available through StardockCentral under "FreeStuff")? This should get an address for where this crash is happening, though a hard lockup may be harder to track down. When it does happen, send the crash report to [email protected] we can get to the bottom of your problem. Thanks!
snowpeople: try going into your my documents/games/galciv2/ folder and delete the prefs.ini file. At some point the textures may have accidentally been turned off, or something may have been screwed up with that file, causing things to not work. Also, check out your options screen to make sure the "display Texture" options are turned on under "Video". Hope this helps!
Hey Galacerty, A couple of things that should get you on the right track... 1.) Update to Service Pack 2...you'll get weird DirectX errors if youre not up-to-date on the OS end of things. 2. Update your video drivers...looks like they're from early 2004, this should fix alot of problems as well. Let us know if youre still having problems after dealing with those two </P
Hopefully we'll be able to do something with the Expansion like with the original, where players would get to download the main data before the expansion is released, then only have to DL a small exe or info file that lets them play, this way it's not a mad scramble for bandwidth and nobody ends up getting it
Thanks ubelkatze. We set up a machine with a GeForce4 MX 420 card and could reproduce the issue, but unfortunatly it's because the card dosent support the number of passes the ships take to render, which may be the problem your card is experiencing. Has anyone else had this problem with the GeForce 4 MX brand of card, and if so, were you able to fix it? Updating the drivers dosent seem to help, so I'm left to beleive that it (unfortunatly) may just be a limitation of the card <img sr
Weird...I would contact [email protected] and ask them to help you out (unfortunatly the game team dosen't have much control over the validation system). Hope they can help!
Hmm...I've heard of freak occourances of the Turn Button going AWOL, but I dont know why the menu button would be missing. Does the ESC key bring up the options menu when this happens?
Thanks for bringing this to our attention, we will look into it (and, as you can tell, we don't use auto-attack very often or this wouldn't have slipped through). Lightworker: The autopilot lines shouldn't have disappeared, but if they are can you make a seperate bug post on the matter. Has anyone else had this happen to them? And, before anyone says anything they're going to regret, lets lock this thread up and throw away the key <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/
If this is reproducable in a saved game, could you send that file to [email protected] for us to look at? Thanks!
This is a time-out bug with the pathfinding algorithim on larger maps. Basicially the ship TRIES to go there, but if it can't recalculate the route in a few milliseconds, it gives up. Were looking for(and will be working on) a solution that won't make the game run sluggishly.
Does this happen when you save & reload? If so, could you send that saved game file to us at [email protected]? Thanks!
Thanks for the bump...sometimes the forums zip by too fast and posts get lost Just to rule things out, can you also install the game on your C:\ drive, in it's default directory? If the textures still dont show, then we know its something else, but I'm thinking that could be at fault. Also, do you get planet textures? How about anomaly and resource textures? I'd be interested to see what
We'll try to be more vocal about the localization of our patches but yes, all our 'Final' patches are in english, then get sent to Paradox for translation. As for the mod, the tech-tree change was ment to show users how they can fully change, but I can imagine the game getting confused if you've made ships using technologies that aren't in the mod. Anyways, the mod was really jsut an example of what can be done...when players make full mods they will probably be customizing the starba
Make sure you have the newest build...when a improvement is placed the list no longer resets, which seems to be a big part of your frustration. As for the advanced governors feature, past 1.2 all updates will basicially bug fixes, so you won't find it creeping into an update version anytime soon. Now an expansion on the other hand....
In my documents/games/galciv2 there is a file called 'Prefs.ini'. Delete this to get the default config, or just open the file and tweak the horizonal and vertical resolution values! Hope this helps!
If you want to try something before re-downloading, boot up Stardock Central, go to "free stuff", download "SmartException", and have that running when this bug happens. This will generate a crash report that should tell us exactly what's wrong. Thanks!
Thanks for the kind words, guys. I think alot of people would be suprised how small our team is. It's really just a handfull of people working on these patches, with most of the art team already on Dark Avatar. But perhaps it's our small size that makes continuous patches possible...without too much middle-management, there's less politicing and scheduling, and things just 'get done'. Opposed to having meetings upon meetings as to decide what features to include in the patch,
Very cool! Always nice to see our little game pop up in unexpected places
Ostsol: Can you send that saved game file to us at [email protected] and we'll look into it! Thanks!
Is the game crashing every time the game starts, or was this a random occourance? Also, did the game crash before your upgraded to 1.11? If the game is crashing regularilly, can you download a program called "SmartException", located under the "free stuff" tab in Stardock Central (available at www.stardockcentral.com). This will generate a report when the game crashes that will help us track down the exact lines of code that are causing the problem. Thanks!
If you've conqured a planet with a Manufacturing Capitol, you wont be able to build another (since you can only have 1 per empire). Let us know if this isn't the issue.
I've never seen this, but I'd try just going to the options screen and toggling the Event Music and Music options in the Audio tab. This should jump-start the audio if it ever gets confused and stops playing.
Go to your my documents/game/galciv2 folder, open Prefs.ini, and change the "Fullscreen=0" option to "=1".
